Chapter 151
Imema’s POV
Talia gives me a look, knowing and sharp. It sends a chill down my spine that I cannot quite shake.
She would not know, would she? That I am pretending to be sick? There is no way. Every doctor and team involved in my treatment has been carefully arranged. Aires would never figure it out. Talia certainly would not.
But if she did know, she would expose me. She would tell Aires everything. The thought makes my stomach clench.
Except… if I do not die when expected, that creates serious problems. Jack has given me the perfect opportunity to deal with the death that was supposed to happen months later. Even if Talia exposes me, neither Aires nor Nick would believe her. They would probably just accuse her of being malicious. They always do.
Talia’s voice cuts through my thoughts, smooth and deliberate. “Mr. Perseus sacrificed his marriage and one billion dollars to save Ms. Volkov’ life. Ms. Volkov is so gentle and kind-hearted, she might feel guilty. She could9
think she is nothing but a bundon to you both. What if

Nick freezes for a second. His scarred face goes soft, almost tender. “Yeah… Alpha has given up so much. Imema is so good-hearted, she might actually think that way.” He nods to himself, convinced. “I will have to make sure she takes the medicine from now on.”
I am so angry I nearly pass out. Did he actually believe that? What if Talia’s pills turn out to be some slow-acting poison? Does Nick want me dead that badly? What an idiot.
But thankfully, Aires is not so easily fooled. He stares at the pill in Talia’s hand, his eyes dark, like they are staring into an abyss. He doesn’t trust her.
“Can I have one to send for testing?”
Without hesitation, Talia hands him the bottle. “Sure, pick one for yourself.”
She is so casual about it, so confident. She lets him choose the pill himself, and something about her ease unsettles me. What if Jack, that quack doctor, has misdiagnosed me? What if he actually prescribed some useless concoction that does nothing? I push the thought away.

Nick, eager to get back to treating his face, quickly adds, “Alpha, I am coming with you.”
Aires gives Talia one last look before walking out. I cannot read his expression. I do not like that.

The next day, the test results come in.
The voice on the other end of the call is calm, professional. “Ms. Volkov, we have tested the pill. It contains no toxins, but it does not cure anything either. The protein content is a bit high, but it is essentially a harmless supplement with no real effects.”
I let out a long, slow breath. Relief washes through me.
A sneer forms at the corner of my lips. Talia made the pill sound like a miracle cure, like it could work wonders, and even I almost bought into it.
I almost thought Jack was some kind of genius. Turned out, I was overthinking it. It’s makes perfect sense that Talia has been taken in by that old fraud.

the person who helped me to call me as soon as the results came back. That was our arrangement. If the pill had been toxic, the person would have told Aires right away. If it was harmless, I play along with Jack’s little
con.
The fatal illness can be dealt with, no problem.
And as for Aires and Talia getting divorced over this life-saving drug nonsense? That’s just a bonus.
I think about the billion dollars Talia is supposed to get. My lips curl into a cold smile. Once Aires divorces Talia, I will make sure she does not get a cent.
She doesn’t deserve it, that money should be mine… it will be mine.
I settle back against the pillows, my smile widening. Talia thinks she is so clever. She thinks she is winning. But I have been playing this game for much longer.
Nick’s POV
I swirl the drink in my glass, watching the liquid slosh against the sides. Richard sits across from me, his white 498 shirt now stained with wine he almost dropped when I

“What? Aires and Talia are actually starting the divorce process?!”
Richard’s voice echoes off the walls of the private room. He looks genuinely shocked, his eyes wide.
I take a slow sip of my drink. Richard has been out of the country for a while. He has no idea what has been going on. “Honestly, I didn’t expect it either. But that woman, asking Alpha for one billion? She really has guts.”
Richard is mostly hidden in the shadows, so I can’t quite read his expression. But anyway, I’m too busy enjoying this.
“But there is still the separation period, right?” I lean back, swirling my glass. “I bet she won’t go through with it. I will wager she drags this out…”
The door opens. Aires walks in, his presence filling the room. I arranged this gathering, knowing that Richard’s return is the perfect excuse to get everyone together
again.
“Welcome back.”

Aires’s brows twitch. A faint hint of irritation crosses his face. “We have not officially started the divorce process yet.”
I see something in Richard’s eyes, something I don’t like. “Alpha, you do not want to divorce Talia, do you?”
I snort before Aires can answer. “Of course he does! That woman, with her middle school education and stay-at-home wife mentality, what is there to miss? Alpha has probably been dying to dump her for ages!”
I sneer, the words coming easy. “Alpha, you cannot give her that billion. Make her realize how tough her life will be after the divorce.”
Richard shifts in his seat, “Alpha, you and Talia have a child. If you get divorced, what happens to Aeson? No matter what, Talia is Aeson’s mother. No one will care for him more than she will.”
Aires’s face turns cold. He downs his drink in one go, and I see frustration in the movement. He never drinks like that.
“She is the one who brought up the divorce.” 6/8

“Alpha, do not listen to her! That is just a tactic, a way to get you to beg her! After the separation period, she will not go through with it!”
I wave my hand dismissively, but Aires’s voice drops. “What if she does?”
I wave it off, refusing to entertain the thought. “If she does, then fine. You will be better off without her. She will be nothing without you.”
Aires is quiet for a moment. “I have never thought about divorcing Talia.”
“You’ve never thought about divorcing her?” The words come out strangled. “Then what about Imema?”
“Imema has a terminal illness, and I am partly responsible for it. I just want her to leave without any regrets. I have never thought about divorcing Talia or remarrying.”
I am speechless. For a moment, I just stare at him. “But…” I scramble for words. “Talia doesn’t deserve you!”
“She is Aeson’s mother.” 7/8

Aires’s phone rings.
“Hello, is this Mr. Aires Perseus?” The voice on the other end is professional, officious. “We have officially received Mrs. Talia Perseus’ divorce petition. I am calling to ask if you are interested in mediation.”
