My face burns red with rage. Talia is wearing the Thorne Group’s prized masterpiece. The dress we designed to showcase at our flagship event next month. And she is standing here, in front of me, like it is nothing.
She knows exactly what she is doing. She is doing it deliberately to get under my skin.
I lunge forward, my fists clenched. “You-”
Imema grabs my arm just in time, her fingers digging into my sleeve. I feel her tension, her fury. She sees right through Talia’s little game too. I glance at her face, and she is fuming. I can see it in her eyes. How dare Talia blow through so much money so quickly? Does she really think Alpha’s money is hers to spend as she pleases?
Imema shoots Talia a cold glance. I see the silent sneer on her lips.

She mumbles to herself, but Talia doesn’t mind my furious glare. She turns to Aires with a smile, smooth and calculated. “Mr. Perseus, you have suddenly become so generous with me. There must be a catch, right?” She pretends to ponder for a moment, tapping her chin. “Let me guess…”
She tilts her head. “There is not much of value I have left except for my piano, Di Lian.” She looks at him. “I suppose you want me to lend it to Imema, don’t you, Mr. Perseus?”
Aires’s voice is low. “Just borrowing it for a while. You will get it back.”
“Looks like I guessed right.” Talia nods, then adds, “But what if she damages my piano?”
Aires does not hesitate. “She will not.”
“There is always a chance.” Talia shrugs. “Did you not always tell me never to speak too soon?” She smiles. “Funny how confident you are when the tables are
turned.”

Aires’s jaw tightens. “Ms. Serena Jackson is Imema’s idol She will take good care of the piano.”

not lending it to you anyway.”
She steps closer to him. Closer than I expected. She leans in near his ear, her delicate face inches away. I cannot hear what she says at first. Then her voice carries, each word clear and slow.
“You have no idea how happy I am to finally divorce you.” She pulls back slightly. “Do you know why I spent so
much money recently under the name of Mrs. Perseus? Because I was worried you would pull some trick to avoid divorcing me again.”
Aires freezes. I see it. The flicker in his eyes. Something unfamiliar. A loss of control he has never felt before. The
unease morphs into anger, quick and sharp.
His voice is icy. “Talia, you will regret this.”
She gives a soft, almost teasing smile. “Get the divorce done first, then you can worry about making me regret it.” She gestures toward the building. “Shall we go in
now?”
Aires casts her a blank glance, then strides into the courthouse without looking back.

supposed to cry, to beg, to fall apart.

Talia’s POV
Aires and I take our seats at the divorce registration counter, sliding our documents across to the clerk.
The grey- faced man peers over his glasses, then looks down at the documents. The fluorescent lights buzz overhead, cold and sterile. The clerk checks everything, flipping through each page carefully, then looks up at us.
“You still have a chance to cancel the divorce, Alpha.”
She says, with a neutral voice.
“As you are the Alpha and Luna of the pack, the bond you share is significant to the well-being of the pack. If one of you wishes to back out, today’s appointment can be withdrawn. Are you sure you do not want to reconsider?”
I do not hesitate. “No need. Please proceed as quickly as possible.”

Aires opens his mouth. Then he says, “Wait a moment.”
I frown, turning to look at him. “Mr. Perseus, you are not thinking of backing out, are you?”
His voice is cold. “After everything you have said, do you really think I would?”
I study his face. Any man with a shred of pride would not dream of going back on his word. But Aires? Who knows what kind of schemes he might be cooking up this time. I admit, I am no match for him when it comes to scheming.
Aires leans back slightly. “I have not verified your
medicine yet. What if you gave me poison? I would be left with nothing to show for it.”
In the past, he had been certain I would never dare to deceive him. But now, after the shopping, he is not so sure. I have made it clear that I am far from timid.
“Left with nothing…” I echo his words softly.
To him, our marriage is nothing more than a transaction, is it? A deal to be weighed and measured at any time.

whatever he feels for me will never compare to what he feels for Imema.
A faint trace of mockery flickers across my face. “If you are worried it is poison or a fake, that is easy to solve.”
I stand and walk toward Imema, who has been peeking in from the doorway.
Her eyes go wide as I take a step towards her, her lips pressed together in anticipation. After all, today might just be the day her dreams come true… or crash to the ground.
