Chapter 175
Imema’s POV
I lean back, a smirk curling my lips. A washed–up fraudster, acting like he has any real power. If I had not already known his true colors, I might have actually been fooled by his wise old
man act.
Nick chuckles beside me, his voice loud enough for Jack to hear. “Make me regret this? You?” He laughs. “Are you really taking this matter so seriously?”
Jack’s voice cracks through the speaker, sharp with rage. “You little brat, next time you come crawling to me, I will not be so easy to deal with. You had better pray you do not fall into my
hands.”
I cover my mouth, stifling a laugh. Pray? Him? The old fraud cannot even cure a cold. The only thing he has ever been good at is pretending.
I lean closer to Nick’s phone, letting my voice carry, “Mr. Carter, threats from someone with nothing to lose are hardly frightening.”
I pause. “Enjoy your retirement. You have earned it.”

Chapter 175
I stand back, watching the heated argument between Jack and Nick through Talia’s phone.
Suddenly, something clicks in the back of my mind and everything starts to make sense. That is why Jack looked so familiar!
The way he holds himself, the sharpness in his eyes beneath all that bluster. I turn to Talia, keeping my voice low. “Talia, what is your relationship with Mr. Carter?”
She shrugs, casually speaking. “I have asked him for medicine a few times, for my ex–husband and mother–in–law. He is also the one who taught me the basics of traditional medicine, so he’s more like a mentor to me.”
“How long have you known him?”
“About three years, give or take.”
My gaze darkens. Three years. She has known him for three years, and she doesn’t even realize who she is standing beside. “You two seem pretty close.”
She does not catch the weight in my words. “I have learned a lot from Mr. Carter about health remedies. Do not be fooled by his childish attitude, he is actually a good person.”

I press my lips together. I want to say something, but I hold back. This is neither the time, nor the place.
Jack and Nick bicker for a few more minutes. Then Jack, looking
smug, hangs up. Nick’s call comes through again, and Jack rejects it.
Once again, the call rings, only to be rejected; each rejection feels sharper than the last.
Jack puts his phone in the pocket, looking pleased with himself.
“You wanted to pick a fight with me?” He snorts. “Know your place.”
Everyone stares at him. An old man with a wrecked shop and a smashed signboard, standing in the rubble like he has just won a
war.
I look at Talia, who is looking at Electra, who is staring right back at me with a puzzled expression, none of us knowing how to respond or what to say.
Talia’s POV
After helping clean up the pharmacy, the three of us finally leave. The sun has set, the streets quiet. Raymond drives Talia and me back to my apartment complex. He pulls up at the entrance, puts the car in park, and makes no move to

He is always respectful of boundaries. Never once suggests he come up for a visit. Even now that I am divorced. Electra notices. I see it in the way she watches him, the approval in her
eyes.
As we ride the elevator up, she breaks the silence. “Talia, I think Raymond is pretty great.” She counts on her fingers. “He is respectful. Knows when to step back. He has helped you so many times.” She looks at me. “Have you ever considered giving
him a chance?”
I know what she is thinking. Raymond’s occasional sweet–talking? She never takes it seriously. She has long since noticed he only acts flirty when Aires is around–just to piss him off. Otherwise, he rarely says anything inappropriate. He never puts me in an awkward position. He never leaves Aires any ammunition to use against me. Because knowing what a scumbag Aires is, he would probably twist the story and accuse me of cheating the first chance he got.

I shake my head. “I just got divorced. Romance is not on my radar right now.” I pause. “I want to focus on my career first. Besides, Raymond and I are just friends.” I look at her. “Do not start rumors. It will be bad if Robin hears about it.”
Electra mutters, “Robin told me more than once that he wants you to be his mom.” She grins. “He was even planning to matchmake you and Raymond after your divorce.”

I laugh. “He is just a kid. You do not have to take him so seriously.”
The elevator chimes. The doors slide open.
I step out. Then I freeze.
There is a seizure notice stuck to my front door. Bold letters. Official seal. My stomach drops.
Electra blinks. “What the hell?”
I pull out my phone and call the building management. My voice is sharp. “Why is there a notice on my apartment door?”
The property manager’s voice comes through, hesitant. “Ms. Jackson, your apartment is currently involved in a property dispute. Until ownership is confirmed, the unit has been temporarily sealed.”
ľ
My voice turns cold. “I am the legal owner of this apartment. I finalized the transfer long ago. There is no dispute.”
The manager clears his throat. “Well. The previous owner and their family are involved in a legal battle over the property. Until the case is resolved, we have to enforce a temporary freeze.” He pauses. “We recommend you find another place to stay for now.”

Electra explodes. “This is ridiculous! She has lived here for years. Why is this only coming up now?”
I do not answer. I am staring at the notice. The words blur.
I bought this place not long after returning to the country. I never planned to live here permanently, so I went for a second–hand apartment. I made sure there were no ownership issues before finalizing the purchase.
Now, five years later, they suddenly claim there is a dispute?
What kind of joke is this?
