Talia’s POV

I try calling the previous owner, but one picks up. I try again. Nothing.

Electra huffs beside me. “Talia, just crash at my place for tonight.”

I think for a moment, then nod. It is late, and I do not have the energy to fight this tonight.

We grab my bag and head downstairs. Just as we get into a cab, Electra’s phone rings. She answers. Her face shifts from tired to confused to something darker.

“What?” Her voice rises. “My apartment too?” She grips the phone tighter. “Are you kidding me? My place was a brand–new, fully furnished unit. What kind of problem could possibly come up?”

Whoever is on the other end keeps talking. Her expression grows darker with each word. When she finally hangs up, she stares at her phone like it has betrayed her.

She turns to me, her face devastated. “I cannot go home either.”

I keep my voice calm. “It is already in your name. He cannot just take it back.” I pause. “He is probably not planning to steal it. Just making sure we have nowhere to stay for a while.” I look at her. “It does not have to be long. A few months would be enough.”

I lower my head. “Electra, I am sorry. You got caught up in this because of me.”

If it were not for me, Aires might not have targeted Electra and Mr. Carter at all.

She waves it off immediately. “Come on, do not be like that.” She grabs my hand. “If it were not for you, I would not have gotten that place in the first place.”

She sighs. “No point dwelling on it now.”

I exhale. “Let us just book a hotel for now.”

She frowns. “What if he messes with that too?”

“We cannot stay at any Thorne Group or Perseus–owned hotels. Or anywhere affiliated with them.” I think for a moment. “We should go to one of their competitors for now, but that is not a long–term solution.” My voice hardens. “If Aires spreads the word, no one will be willing to risk offending him just to take us

in.”

Electra’s expression darkens. “So what now? If they are this shameless, who knows what else they might try?”

I open my mouth to answer, but my phone rings.

“Mr. Capaldi,” I answer.

“I have got the invitation for the auction at the Royal History Museum.” Raymond’s voice is deep, steady. “Talia, are you sure you want to attend?”

“I am sure.”

“Alright. I will pick you up tomorrow night.”

“Mr. Capaldi, thank you.”

His tone turns lazy, almost amused. “It is nothing.”

Robin is home for the night, so we only exchange a few more words before hanging up.

Electra’s curiosity perks up. “Talia, you are going to the auction?”

“Yeah. I have never been to one before.” I slip my phone back into my bag. “Thought I would check it out.”

She immediately perks up. “Then I want to go too.” Her eyes widen. “Can I come? I have never been to an auction either.”

I smile. “I already got your invitation ready.”

She squeals and hugs me tight. “Talia, you are the best!”

After a bit of hassle, we finally check into a hotel. It is not the Ritz, but it is clean, quiet, and not affiliated with anyone who

answers to Aires. We crash hard.

Then, in the middle of the night, there is a knock at the door.

The hotel manager stands outside, looking apologetic. His smile is strained. “Sorry, ladies, but this room was already reserved. The front desk clerk is new and mistakenly checked you into someone else’s booking.” He shifts his weight. “We have already processed your check–out, so please pack your belongings as soon as possible.”

Electra snaps awake. “You have got to be kidding me.” She stalks to the door. “It is the middle of the night, and now you are telling us there is a mistake and we have to leave?”

The manager hesitates. “We can offer you double the refund as

compensation.”

Electra’s voice rises. “Who the hell cares about your double refund? It is the middle of the night. Where are we supposed to go?” She jabs a finger at him. “If you made a mistake, why don’t you just give them another room?”

The manager looks troubled. “I am really sorry, but the hotel is fully booked.” He gives a small bow. “I hope you understand.”

“Understand my ass!” Electra lunges forward.

I grab her arm. “Electra. Let it go.”

My lips curl into a cold smile. “This was intentional. There is no point arguing.”

Electra’s fists clench. She knows we are being targeted. But that does not make it any less infuriating.

I glance at the manager. His smile is fixed, his posture stiff. He is waiting.

I turn to Electra. “Pack up. Let us leave before they decide to toss our stuff out.”

The manager stiffens under my gaze. He forces another smile.

I know what he is thinking. He has orders from higher up. If we refuse to leave, they will throw us out anyway.

Imema’s POV

Nick is laughing so hard he nearly falls off his chair. His face is red, tears forming at the corners of his eyes. “Imema, you should have seen it. That bitch Talia was totally humiliated last night. Kicked out of her hotel in the dead of night with nowhere to go!” He slaps the table. “It was priceless!”

He wipes his eyes, still grinning. “In a couple of days, once Alpha has everything set up, her assets will be completely frozen. She will not even have money for food.”

The eviction, the property restrictions. Everything has been Nick’s doing.

I allow myself a pleased smile. Aires might think such low tactics are beneath him, but he didn’t stop Nick from doing it.

And why would he? After all, Talia’s recent actions have

completely infuriated him. He is not going to tolerate her like he used to.

Nick leans toward me, his grin widening. “By the way, there is an auction tonight.” He raises an eyebrow. “Didn’t you say Talia stole your necklace? Alpha said he would get you an even better one. It is up for auction tonight.”

He tilts his head. “Interested?”

I sit up straighter. “What kind of auction?”

Nick smirks. “Starlight City’s annual auction. The big one. Not those smaller ones that happen every month.” He lets the words hang. “Think about it. An auction that only happens once a year. Can you imagine the kind of treasures they will have?”

He leans in conspiratorially. “I heard there will even be some one–of–a–kind items that money alone cannot buy. Even I haven’t seen some of them before.”

His eyes gleam. “This auction draws half of the country’s elites. Even if you are not buying, it is worth going just to see what is up for grabs.”

He pauses for effect. Then his voice drops. “Imema, your piano, Melora, was bought for you at this very auction by Alpha.”

Melora. The last gift Aires ever gave me. A parting gift. Over the years, that piano has helped me enter international competitions, win multiple awards. My talent played a huge role, of course. But having an exceptional piano only amplified my skills.

I frown slightly. “Nick, have you looked into Talia’s past before she got married?” I pause. “Did she ever compete in any competitions or join any music associations?”
