Chapter 182
Author’s POV
Everyone turned in shock to look at the bidder. Two hundred million dollars… She had raised the bid by a whole hundred million. Obviously, this was no small amount.
A calm smile rested on Talia’s face, as if unaffected by the surprised looks around her. The necklace was beautiful, but it was worth no more than a hundred million dollars at most. Was she bidding two hundred million because she liked it so much,
or was there another reason?
Everyone’s gaze shifted back to Aires. She was really bold, not even afraid of offending him.
Aires’s eyes darkened as he looked at Talia. He glanced at Nick, who snapped out of his shock and understood the meaning. Nick hesitated before raising his paddle. “Two hundred and fifty million dollars.”
Though he knew Aires would cover the difference if he won, Nick felt far less confident than before. This was not play money. This was real cash. No matter how much Nick wanted to impress a woman, he knew he could not afford to spend that kind of money. Nick realized Aires had gotten him to raise the bid, probably to see if Talia was just trying to provoke them into Bidding higher.

After all, the price had already shot past the original value by over a hundred million dollars. It was no small sum. But the normally pragmatic Talia did not stop there. Instead, she raised the bid even higher. “Three hundred million dollars.”
Nick stared at her, wide–eyed. Had this woman lost her mind?
He glanced at Aires, silently asking if he should keep going. Aires’s eyes were intense. He gave a subtle nod. Nick cleared his throat. “Three hundred and fifty million dollars.” He chose the safe way.
But Talia was not done yet. She quickly responded, “Four hundred million dollars.”
The room went from murmurs to complete silence. Everyone stared at Talia like she was crazy. Even the biggest spenders did not throw money around like this, right?
Imema’s face shifted. She rarely saw anything Talia liked enough to go this far, and now Talia was bidding this high just to outdo her?
Unable to hold back, Imema spoke up. “Ms. Jackson, I know we have had our issues, but don’t you think it is a bit much to ruin the auction just to get back at me?”
The crowd looked at Talia with growing skepticism. This price

was insane. How much money did she really have to throw around like that? They did not believe Talia had that kind of financial power. Aires definitely had the money, but no way was he foolish enough to spend it on something like this.
The auctioneer was not sure how to handle the situation either. If someone bid and then could not pay, there were serious consequences. If people started bidding without any intention of paying, the auction would be meaningless.
Just then, a staff member leaned in and whispered something to the auctioneer. The auctioneer nodded slightly.
Soon, someone approached Talia. “Miss, if this is just a joke, we can restart the auction.”
It was clear the staff member did not believe Talia could actually afford to buy the necklace at that price. Aires could, but this woman sitting in the fourth row? Definitely not.
Before Talia could respond, Nick raised his voice. “She cannot afford that much. She is just trying to drive up the price and ruin the auction!”
The staff member’s face turned serious. “Miss, please, no more jokes.” If it were not for the fact that she had already bought a few items, they would not have been so polite, or given her a second chance.

Talia smiled lightly. “I am not joking. I am serious about buying this necklace for four hundred million dollars. Is there a problem? Or are you saying there is a bidding limit, and my offer is too high for your auction?”
The staff member frowned. “Are you sure you are not joking?”
Before he could respond, Raymond’s low, lazy voice cut in. “Are you implying my friend cannot afford that? Are you looking down on us, or insulting us?” He leaned back in his seat. “If that is the case, why do not you just throw us out of the auction and show some authority?”
The staff member stiffened slightly at the sound of Raymond’s voice. “Mr. Capaldi, that is not what I meant. It is just that the price is so high, and I was wondering if the lady was serious.”
“I am serious.” Talia flashed a sly smile as she glanced toward Aires and Imema. “Mr. Perseus, do you still want this necklace?”
ľ
People exchanged looks, Challenging Aires openly–what a bold move. But if Aires could not even handle a woman challenging him, would not that be embarrassing?
Nick snarled, his face twisted with anger. “Damn! This woman still dares to provoke us?” He turned to Aires. “Alpha, raise the bid again. I do not believe she can outlast you.”
Talia looked at Aires, a faint smile on her lips. “My buet is 5:37

eight hundred million dollars. If Mr. Perseus bids over that, the necklace is yours. But if his budget is under eight hundred million, I suggest he not bother competing with me.”
She gave Aires a brief glance, her smile slightly teasing. “After all, you will not win.”
“Eight hundred million dollars?” Nick almost burst into
laughter. He sneered, “Talia, you really talk big. With how broke you are, do you even have eighty thousand bucks, let alone eight hundred million?”
Talia lifted her gaze, her eyes cold “Since you are so confident, Mr. Thorne, why do not you put up the eight hundred million dollars yourself?”
Nick was taken aback. He was not about to make a fool of
himself now. Still, he did not believe for a second that Talia could actually afford it.
He pointed at her, a smug expression on his face. “Oh, I get it now. You are just trying to drive up the price and then pull out at the last minute. Trying to trick us, right?” He laughed. “Talia, you are really shameless.”
Aires said nothing. His gaze remained fixed on Talia, his expression unreadable. The room waited. The auctioneer waited. Imema’s hands were clenched in her lap, her knuckles while.
