Chapter 187
Author’s POV
Watching the crowd laugh, Talia knew that no matter how
much she tried to explain, it would only make things worse. She frowned slightly, not wanting to engage with them any longer. But to the crowd, her departure seemed like a desperate escape.
The reporters, intentionally or not, blocked Talia’s path,
surrounding her with mocking expressions. “Ms. Jackson, where are you going?” one called out. “Yes, aren’t you going to explain yourself before leaving?” another added.
Talia’s voice was cold. “Are you trying to break the law by blocking me at the police station?”
The reporters were not fazed. “Ms. Jackson, that is a weak
argument. Weren’t you impersonating Mr. Perseus’s wife
right here at the police station?” A man smirked. “Even if the
police showed up, we would both be in trouble.”
They formed an impenetrable wall, trapping Talia with no
way out. At that moment, her eyes met Aires’s, who stood outside the crowd. The man’s gaze was half–amused as his 23

lips silently formed the words. “Beg me, and I will save you.”
Talia slowly raised her hand and flipped Aires the bird.
Aires’s eyes narrowed. She would rather face such an embarrassing and awkward situation than lower her head and utter a single word of apology to him? He was
determined to see just how unyielding she could be.
The reporters‘ incessant chatter buzzed in Talia’s ears, their
questions blending into a chaotic noise. Talia remained eerily
calm, her silence unbroken, showing no trace of discomfort.
The more composed she appeared, the more aggressive the
reporters became. They thrived on seeing their interviewees
flustered and retreat.
Nick was equally thrilled. This time, he had finally caught
Talia’s embarrassing moment live.
Just as Nick was basking in his triumph, his other phone rang. He handed the live–streaming phone to Imema. “Imema,
hold this for me. I need to take a call.”
Imema was more than happy to watch netizens berate Talia.
“Sure.”

Nick found a quiet spot and answered the call. “What’s up?”
“Mr. Thorne, bad news! That woman, Talia, is trending
again!”
Nick shrugged it off. “Hasn’t she been trending every day
lately? What is so strange about that?”
“But this time it is different. This time, it is-”
The man was about to elaborate, but Nick cut him off. He
was still waiting to see Talia’s downfall. “Alright. I know about the trending topic. I orchestrated it.”
The man was stunned. “You caused this trending topic? Why
didn’t you say so earlier?”
“What difference does it make whether I say it early or not?”
Nick snapped impatiently. “Any more questions? If not, I am
hanging up.”
“Mr. Thorne, wait,” the man hurriedly added. “Do you need
our co–operation on this?”
Nick was annoyed. “Do you want to lose your job by not
Thorneating? Why are you even asking me about such a 3/7

trivial matter!”
“Alright, I understand.”
After hanging up, Nick went to witness Talia’s supposed
misery. However, he saw another group of reporters rushing
toward Talia’s location.
Imema glanced at the new wave of reporters and whispered,
“Nick, did you call these reporters too?”
Nick looked confused. “No, I only called one group. Did my
team overdo it?”
Before Imema and Nick could react, the new reporters
pushed aside the original ones, clamoring to interview Talia.
They looked as if they had just won the lottery.
“Ms. Jackson, the museum has just released the list of auction items you donated, worth six hundred million dollars!”
“Ms. Jackson, it is reported that you donated four hundred million dollars to welfare institutions like impoverished mountain areas, orphanages, and nursing homes. What motivated you to donate such a large sum?”

“Ms. Jackson, it is said that you are not among the wealthiest
in our country, yet your donations surpass even theirs. How did you come to such a decision?”
The barrage of questions from the reporters pushed the original ones to the back. The reporters who had surrounded
Talia were baffled. Donations? What was going on?
Those who could not get close to Talia quickly started live
streams, not wanting to miss out.
“Dear viewers, we are from Starlight City Morning News.

probably seen today’s trending topics. Yes, Ms. Jackson is the mysterious donor who contributed six hundred million

The camera then focused on Talia, who was surrounded by
reporters. “You probably did not expect the donor to be so

Many netizens watching the live stream on their phones
while glancing at their TVs were shocked.
Huh? The person on the live stream looks so much like the
one on the morning news.
They are the same person, okay?
What is going on? Isn’t this woman a fraud claiming to be
Aires’s wife? How did she become a billionaire donor?
A billion dollars? Did I hear that right? Is she that rich?
Damn, is this another publicity stunt?
What publicity stunt? This is Starlight City Morning News!
Have you ever seen an official channel do a publicity stunt?
Nick’s live stream exploded with activity, the comments flying by too fast to read.
The reporters pushed out of the crowd were stunned by
their colleagues‘ questions. One of them grabbed another
reporter’s arm. “Buddy, this woman is surrounded by
scandals. She not only pretended to be Aires’s wife but also hyped herself online and is suspected of economic crimes. 6/7

Are you sure you are interviewing the right person?”
Someone shot a disdainful look at the man. “You
entertainment reporters only know how to dig up dirt and
hype news. No wonder you will never be taken seriously.”
The man was taken aback and instinctively glanced at the station logos on their microphones. His expression changed
instantly. These new reporters were all from legitimate TV
stations, including the top channel.
The entertainment reporters exchanged bewildered looks.
“What… what is going on? Were not we digging up dirt? How
did she suddenly become a great philanthropist?”
