them?”

Aeson’s head snaps up. His eyes are wide, confused. He looks at me like I have just asked him the most unexpected question in the world. I can see the thoughts racing behind his eyes. He thought I would stand up for Robin. He thought I would choose Robin over him. He thought I did not want him

anymore.

I read his mind easily. The guilt is written all over his face.

“Because of me, you were isolated and bullied by the other

children.” My voice is calm, quiet. “I did not even notice that you were being hurt. I did not see the signs. I did not ask the right questions.” I pause. “It is all my fault.”

I watch Talia hold Robin’s hand and walk out of the office.

Her back is straight. Her steps are steady. She does not look

back.

Raymond follows behind them with a lazy smile, his hands in his pockets, like he has all the time in the world.

As they pass me, Raymond speaks. His voice is low, meant only for me. “Since you cannot get justice for Lena, I will do it.” He pauses, letting the words sink in. “From now on, everything about her will be handled by me.”

I glare at him. My jaw tightens. My hands curl into fists at my

sides.
