Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 271

Chapter 269

Talia’s POV

As we walk out of the entertainment club, the night air hits my fevered skin like a cool balm. The chaos inside fades behind us, replaced by the quiet hum of the city at rest. I look at the man beside me, at the sharp lines of his profile illuminated by a streetlamp, and speak softly.

Mr. Capaldi, thank you for this time.

Raymond laughs, the sound low and warm. Between you and me, there is no need to be so polite.

I know that without Raymond, I could never have gone to find Electra so quickly. Not without making preparations first, not without calling in favors, not without risking everything. And who knows what might have happened in the meantime? Jeffrey Soren’s eyes still crawl across my memory, hungry and entitled.

Raymond checks his watch. Let us go. I will take you to the hospital first.

Electra looks even more guilty now, her swollen cheeks flushed with shame. Talia, I am sorry. Her voice cracks. I was too impulsive.

wrong. Why should you apologize?I reach out and squeeze her hand. You were just protecting yourself.

My eyes harden, a cold, watery light flowing through them. Besidesthis may not be an undeserved disaster.I pause, letting the words settle. Perhaps it is a manmade one.

Electra’s breath hitches. Something flickers across her face, realization dawning like a slow sunrise. She knows what I mean. Someone set her up. Someone wanted her in that room, at that

time, with those men.

The question is who.

Half an hour later, Raymond drives me to the hospital. The fluorescent lights are too bright, too white. They make my eyes ache. Electra accompanies me while I receive an IV drip, the cool liquid seeping into my veins.

I turn to Raymond, exhaustion weighing down every word. Mr. Capaldi, I am so sorry to trouble you so late.

I glance at the clock on the wall. It is getting late. Robin is still waiting for you at home.I meet his eyes. You should go and get some rest.

Raymond does not choose to leave. He settles into the chair 12:56

beside my bed, stretching his long legs out in front of him. At this time, Robin is already asleep. He shrugs. I will not sleep with him anyway, so it does not matter whether I go back or

not.

After saying that, he looks at Electra. His voice is casual, but I

hear the intent beneath it.

I am going to buy something to eat.He tilts his head. Miss Parker, is there anything you would like?

Electra knows that Raymond means he wants to stay and keep me company. She and Raymond are quite familiar with each other by now, so she does not refuse. The tension in her shoulders eases slightly.

She smiles, though it pulls at her split lip. I will just have a cup of milk tea.

Okay.Raymond nods, standing up. You stay here with Talia for now. I will be right back.

The door clicks shut behind him.

The night is dark outside the window. It is already very late, the kind of late that makes the world feel hollow and still.

Getting an IV drip is a very boring thing. The fluid drips slowly, rhythmically, each drop marking the passage of time. also have

a fever, my body burning from the inside out. Within minutes, I fall asleep on the hospital bed, my head tilted to one side, the fluorescent lights buzzing softly above me.
