Chapter 48
Robin’s POV
Dad’s voice is smooth, casual, like he’s suggesting dinner instead of war. “Winning a divorce against Aires Perseus won’t be easy. Want me to recommend a top lawyer?”
Miss. Jackson hesitates, then nods. “Thank you, Mr. Capaldi,”
My heart does a little flip.
Yes. Yes. YES.
I keep my face calm, though. Miss. Jackson is teaching me about patience.16:18
Chapter 48
About not showing all my cards.
But inside, I’m already celebrating. If she
divorces him–if she’s free–then she can be my mom. For real this time. Not just someone who takes care of me because Dad pays her.
Aeson had his chance. He blew it. He
chose that fake, crying lady over his own
mother.
Now it’s my turn.
I look at Miss. Jackson, bandaging my arm so gently, and I make a silent promise. I’ll be better than Aeson. I’ll
never make her feel like a nanny. I’ll never choose someone else over her.

I’ll be the son she deserves.
Talia’s POV
The next afternoon, I’m gathering my things to leave when my phone buzzes. Aires’s name flashes on the screen.
My first instinct is to ignore it. Let him wait. Let him wonder. But maybe, just maybe… he’s calling about the divorce. About finally letting me go.
I answer.
Before I can say a word, his voice cuts through, cold and commanding as always. “My mother’s headache has returned.

Bring her medicines, whatever you have been getting for her, and do it now.”
I stare at the phone for a moment. Then, very calmly, I say, “I’m not coming.”
I hang up, feeling frustrated at the sheer entitlement in his words. It rings again, and I reject the call. It rings again— rejected.
The Jones family, how typical it is of
them!
The whole family only remembers I exist when they need something. And they ask with that tone… that entitled, superior tone, as if I’m still the servant they can summon at will.

I used to be so easy to order around, after all, I was always eager to please… so desperate for their approval.
Not anymore.
The restaurant Raymond chose is elegant, private. He’s already there when I arrive,
seated at a corner table with a view of the
garden. I slide into the chair across from
him.
“Sorry I’m late.”
His smile is easy, warm. “Not at all. I enjoy watching people rush. It’s

entertaining.”
I shake my head, but a small smile escapes. He has a way of defusing tension, of making things feel less heavy.
Once we’re settled, he gets straight to business. “So. The divorce. Have you thought about what you want?”
I meet his eyes. “If I refuse to give up joint assets, how much can I expect?”
He raises an eyebrow, clearly pleased by my directness. “That depends on Aires’s earnings during the marriage. Generally, assets acquired after marriage are split evenly. However.” He leans forward slightly. “The Perseus family has

enormous influence in this city. They won’t let you walk away easily. But I know lawyers who specialize in this―ruthless ones. They’ll fight.”
I hold his gaze. “If I have evidence that he was at fault, would that help?”
His eyes sharpen with interest. “What kind of evidence?”
“Yesterday, at the parent–child activity. Aires participated with Imema. Helet everyone believe they were Aeson’s parents.”
I pause, the words still sharp even now. “They’ve also had a wedding, a themed one, but a wedding nonetheless. I have 16:18

photos, videos, it can be a proof of their relationship. If I present it as evidence of bigamy…”
Raymond studies me for a long moment. Then he laughs softly, not mocking, but appreciative.
“Talia, let me be clear. Aires’s power in this city is nearly absolute. If he wants evidence to disappear, it disappears. Even with proof of fault, his connections will make a fair fight nearly impossible!”
My heart sinks, but I keep my face
neutral.
He continues, his tone shifting. “However. I promised to help you, and I meant it. If18

he plays dirty, we can play dirtier.”
My eyes widen. “What do you mean?”
He takes a sip of his wine, elegant and unhurried. “The Perseus family cares about one thing above all else: reputation. If public opinion turns against them, actually turns around, they’ll come to you. They’ll negotiate. They may even give you everything you want to make the noise stop. It worked last time, didn’t it?”
Last time… yeah, the hundred million!
He’s right.
I hesitate, and he notices immediately.

“You’re not still hoping for an amicable
split, are you?”
“No.” The word comes quickly. “I just… I
don’t want this to hurt Aeson.”
His brow furrows slightly. “You want custody? Talia, Aeson is the only heir of the current generation. They’ll never—
”
“I know.” I cut him off softly. “I’m not fighting for custody. I just… I don’t want adult conflicts to destroy my child.” I look down at my hands. “If this goes public, if everything comes out, he’ll be torn apart online. Bullied at school. I know what that
feels like now. I don’t want that for him.”
Raymond is quiet for a moment. Then he18

nods, something like respect in his eyes. “I understand. We’ll find a way.‘
A voice cuts through the restaurant’s quiet murmur.
“Ms. Perseus? What a coincidence!”
I look up.
Imema stands a few feet away, radiant in a soft white dress. Behind her, a familiar figure–tall, cold, unsmiling. Aires.”
Her smile is bright, innocent, as if we’re old friends meeting by chance. “Are you having dinner too? How lovely.”
My yoice is flat. “What do you want?“. 16:18

She glances at Raymond, then back at me. “I was just wondering, what’s your relationship with this gentleman?”
“None of your business.”
She doesn’t flinch, doesn’t react. Just smiles that practiced, patient smile. “It’s so rare to run into you. Would you mind if we joined you? There’s so much I’d love to discuss.”
I open my mouth to refuse–sharply, finally, and absolutely.
Raymond speaks first.
“Of course.” His voice is smooth as silk,

his smile charming. “Please, join us. The more the merrier.”
I stare at him. He meets my gaze with an unreadable expression, and I can’t figure out what the hell is he up to.
