Chapter 115
The way she smiled at him–a real smile, not the tight, professional one she’d been giving me lately–made my fingers tighten around the
steering wheel until my knuckles turned white.
Allen said something that made her laugh, the sound carrying faintly through my partially opened window. My jaw clenched so hard it hurt. How long had they been meeting like this? Was this why she thought
she could leave me?
I touched the expensive tie clip at my throat, a small gesture of reassurance. Elsa might think she could walk away, but she was dead wrong. The contract might be ending, but our connection wasn’t so
easily severed.
“The person is mine,” I growled, watching her small figure walk away in the opposite direction from Moonlight.
Eric was already seated at our usual corner table at Peak Restaurant when I arrived. The restaurant occupied the top floor of Twin Moon City’s tallest building, offering panoramic views of both Black
Obsidian and Silver Moon territories.
“You’re late,” Eric noted, not bothering to look up from the stack of
folders he was reviewing.

I slid into the chair across from him. “Traffic.”
Eric raised an eyebrow but didn’t comment further. He pushed the folders toward me. “These are all the potential acquisition targets we discussed. Small companies, high growth potential, minimal
regulatory hurdles.”
I flipped through the first few pages, scanning the financial
highlights. “Any standouts?”
“Three or four,” Eric said, leaning back in his chair. “Though I’m
curious–are these for the company portfolio, or are you planning
something else?”
I glanced up.
“What do
you
mean?”
A knowing smile spread across Eric’s face. “Come on, Drake. Small companies with growth potential, all in sectors Elsa has experience with? You’re setting up a parting gift for your little Omega secretary, aren’t you? Planning to let her play CEO?”
I kept my expression neutral, though heat flashed through me at his assumption. “Elsa is the most qualified person to evaluate these
opportunities.”
Eric snorted. “Right. And the fact that she’s threatening to leave has

nothing to do with it.”
“She’s not going anywhere,” I said, more sharply than I intended, the
words coming out like a growl.
Eric studied me for a moment, then shook his head. “You know, for someone so brilliant in business, you can be remarkably dense about
women.”
I ignored the jab, returning my attention to the folders. “These companies are potential Stone Industries acquisitions. Nothing
more.”
“If you say so.” Eric took a sip of his water. “Though I have to wonder why you’re so convinced she’ll stay. Even her own father didn’t want her. What makes you think your hot and cold routine is going to keep
her around?”
A surge of anger shot through me at the mention of Leon Hale. The man was a disgrace to wolf–kind, abandoning his mate and daughter the moment things got difficult. “That’s exactly why she’ll stay,” I said coldly. “Because she has nowhere else to go. No one else wants her. Only her mother and me.”
Eric’s expression turned serious. “You really believe that, don’t you? That she’s just acting out for attention?”

“What else would it be?” I closed the folder, my appetite suddenly
gone. “She knows her place is with me. This little rebellion is just to
get a reaction.”
“And if you’re wrong?” Eric pressed. “If she actually walks away?”
The question hit a nerve I didn’t want to examine, sending a jolt of something like fear through my chest. “She won’t.” My voice was hard, but underneath was a flicker of uncertainty I refused to acknowledge.
