Chapter 124

When it was over, I leaned against the cold wall, feeling empty and
disgusted with myself. Drake helped straighten my clothes, his
movements unexpectedly gentle, but the satisfaction and possession
in his eyes made me sick.
“Put on the dress,” he commanded, placing a light kiss on my lips, his
fingertips inadvertently sliding across my collarbone, triggering an
unwilling shiver. “I’ll wait for you outside.”
After he left, I stared at my reflection–swollen lips, dazed eyes,
visible marks on my neck. I clenched my fist, a tear sliding down my
cheek.
This is absolutely the last time, I swore to myself, rage building inside
me like a storm. I will never let him treat me like this again. Never. I
don’t care what it costs me.
Back in my seat, I violently yanked the eye mask over my face and
jammed the earplugs in, feigning sleep to avoid conversation. My
neck throbbed where Drake had left his mark–another way of
branding me as his property. I tugged the dress’s collar higher with
trembling fingers, mentally calculating how many hours remained

until I could escape him.
The Bay Resort gleamed elegantly in the sunlight. Drake’s hand
settled possessively at my waist, his touch making me stiffen. The
staff member’s nostrils flared slightly–he could smell Drake on me,
in me. Heat rushed to my cheeks with humiliation.
Once the suite door closed behind us, I immediately wrenched myself
away from Drake’s touch, putting as much distance between us as
possible. I mechanically unpacked Drake’s clothes, my movements
stiff and resentful.
“Bring me my robe,” Drake called from across the suite. “I’m taking a
shower.”
I slammed the suitcase shut harder than necessary. “Yes, your
majesty,” I muttered, retrieving his black silk robe.
“Your robe, sir,” I said formally, my voice dripping with barely concealed sarcasm, attempting to place it on the hook and retreat.
His hand shot out, fingers circling my wrist in a grip that made me
wince. “Join me.”
“Drake, we don’t have time. The dinner-” I tried to pull away, but his
grip tightened.

He pulled me into the bathroom with such force that I stumbled, my sundress immediately dampening from the steam. “The dinner isn’t
for to hours.”
His eyes raked over my body, lingering on where the damp fabric
clung to my curves. “Were you trying to seduce me with this dress on
the plane? Because it worked.”
“You picked this dress, you controlling prick,” I snapped, attempting
to back toward the door, my hands pushing against his chest. His
muscles tensed beneath my palms, his skin burning hot. “And we need
to prepare for tonight.”
Drake blocked my escape, his naked body glistening with water
droplets. “We have plenty of time for both.”
Before I could protest further, he was pulling me under the shower
spray, the white dress turning transparent. I gasped and struggled,
but it was like fighting against a brick wall. His mouth found mine, hands tearing at the wet fabric until it fell in a sodden heap at my
feet.
“Goddammit, Drake! That was the only clean dress I had left,” I snarled, but my words dissolved into a moan as his hands found their target. His fingers skillfully traced every sensitive spot on my body, making me tremble uncontrollably.

Water cascaded over us as he pressed me against the cool tile wall, his
mouth hot on my skin. I wanted to resist, to push him away, but my
traitorous body responded to his touch like it always did. My fists
pounded weakly against his chest, then slowly uncurled to cling to
him instead.
“Tonight,” he murmured against my throat, “you’ll wear the blue
dress. The one that matches your eyes.”
I gasped as his fingers dug into my thighs, lifting me. His fingers
moved with expertise, pressing against the most sensitive spot inside
me, making me arch my back involuntarily. “We need to get ready,” I
protested weakly, my head falling back against the tile. “The formal
event-”
