Chapter 136
He set me down on a windowsill at the end of a dimly lit corridor. I
immediately worried about my dress getting dirty, shifting
uncomfortably and tugging at the hem. “Damn it, Drake, this is silk,” I
hissed.
Drake didn’t give me time to adjust. He pulled me into a nearby room
-a small lounge with plush furniture–and pressed me against the
leather sofa, his body caging mine.
“What are you-” My words were cut off as his mouth crashed down
on mine, hungry and demanding. I pushed against his chest, my
fingers splayed, trying to create space between us even as my
traitorous body responded to his touch.
When he finally pulled back, his eyes were glowing with that
dangerous alpha light. “Don’t think I didn’t notice how other men
were looking at you,” he growled. ‘Whatever you’re planning with
Allen, it won’t work.”
His hands slid up my thighs, bunching the fabric of my dress. My
heart raced, panic flaring hot and bright. Drake, stop, I hissed,
pushing against his chest with more force. The activity only lasts ten
minutes. Don’t you have negotiations to handle? My voice was
strained, breath coming in shallow gasps.

His fingers stilled, but his body remained pressed against mine. “Are
you worried someone’s watching?” His voice was taunting, but I saw
the calculation in his eyes.
“Yes,” I whispered, looking pointedly at the corners of the room, my
body tense as a bowstring. And I’m not about to become someone’s
fucking peep show.
Drake stood abruptly, straightening his tie with impatient
movements, a muscle ticking in his jaw. “Fine. We’re going upstairs.”
I followed him back to the main hall, where couples were now
separating, the air thick with the scent of arousal and alcohol. The
reality of what was happening hit me like a physical blow, making me
stagger slightly. My stomach dropped as I realized what Drake
intended. He wanted to parade me in front of his business associates,
showing off his ownership.
“No,” I said firmly, pulling my arm from his grip, my eyes flashing with determination. ‘I won’t be your fucking trophy.”
Drake’s eyes narrowed dangerously, his lips pulling back in a barely contained snarl. Before he could respond, a strong hand gripped my
wrist.
“Is there a problem?” Allen stood beside me, his presence calm but

authoritative.
Drake’s face hardened, tension radiating from him in palpable waves.
“This doesn’t concern you, Moonlight.”
“Ms. Hale seems uncomfortable,” Allen replied evenly. “Shouldn’t her
wishes be respected?”
“Are you trying to steal what’s mine?” Drake’s voice had dropped to a
dangerous register.
Allen’s grip remained gentle on my wrist. “I was just heading to watch
the fireworks from my yacht. Perhaps Ms. Hale would prefer that to…
whatever you have planned.”
I looked between them, hope and fear warring in my chest, my breath
caught in my throat. Allen was offering me an escape, and every cell
in my body wanted to take it. I shifted my weight slightly toward him,
already imagining the relief of escaping this nightmare.
“Thank you,” I managed, my voice barely above a whisper, starting to
step toward Allen.
“Do you want Legal to come after you?” Drake’s voice was like ice,
stopping me in my tracks. “Remember your contract, Elsa.”
