Chapter 135
Elsa
I turned my head slightly, meeting his golden–flecked eyes, my jaw clenched so tight it hurt. “I didn’t hear what you said.” The lie slipped
easily from my lips, though we both knew better. If you’d bothered to
tell me about this fucking disgusting partner–swapping event
beforehand, I wouldn’t have come at all. Goddamn manipulative
bastard.
His fingers tightened, and I bit back a gasp, my nails digging into my
palms to distract from the pain. “You seem distracted tonight, Elsa.
Perhaps your little walk with Allen has you thinking you have…
options?” His voice dripped with contempt.
Before I could respond, he pulled me against him, his arm a steel
band around my waist as he guided me toward a corner of the ballroom. My heart hammered against my ribs, partly from anger,
partly from the sickening realization of what kind of event this really
was. I could feel bile rising in my throat.
The lights dimmed further as a woman in a shimmering dress took
the stage. “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for our Moon Light Kiss
contest!” Her voice was artificially bright. “Tonight’s prize is a pair of
pure silver couple rings, generously donated by Mr. Thompson!”

She held up a velvet box, opening it to reveal two gleaming bands. A
collective sigh of appreciation rose from the women in the room. I
glanced around, my lip curling in disgust, noticing how many of them
were clearly hired companions, their eyes calculating the monetary
value of those rings. Fuck this whole sick game.
The lights shifted to a pulsing blue–purple that made everything
seem dreamlike and surreal. Bodies pressed closer together, hands
wandering more boldly now. My stomach churned violently, and I
swallowed hard against the wave of nausea threatening to overwhelm
A man with slicked–back hair and predatory eyes approached us, his
gaze lingering on my body in a way that made my skin crawl. I shrank
back instinctively, my body trembling with revulsion.
“Looking to trade for the evening?” he asked Drake, not even
bothering to address me directly.
“We’re not interested,” Drake replied coldly, his arm tightening
around me possessively.
I clutched at Drake’s suit jacket, my fingers digging into the
expensive fabric, knuckles white with tension. I’m just fucking
property here. A toy to be traded. And the only thing keeping me from becoming communal property is the very man who brought me into this hellhole. The irony made me want to scream or laugh

hysterically.
“You should have stayed by my side like I told you,” Drake murmured,
his lips curving into a mocking smile. “Not very obedient tonight, are
we?”
I shot him a venomous glare, my entire body rigid with fury. The host
began a countdown for the contest. “Ten seconds until our Moon
Light Kiss begins! Find your partners!”
Drake looked down at me, his expression unreadable. “Do you want
those rings, Elsa?” His thumb traced my bottom lip, and I jerked my
head away, my nostrils flaring with anger. “You could always beg me
for them.”
“No,” I said flatly, my voice like ice, refusing to play his game, “I’d
rather eat shit.”
His laugh was low and cruel. “I forgot. Silver isn’t good enough for
you, is it?”
I scanned the room, taking in the different types of women present, my hands shaking with a mixture of anger and anxiety. Some were clearly professionals, here to earn money and leave. Others were ambitious pack members, using their bodies as currency to climb the
social ladder.
