Chapter 269

Kira’s POV

33

I stood at the edge of my favorite cliff, watching the sunset paint the ocean in shades of gold and crimson. The salt-laden breeze tugged at my hair, carrying away the heaviness that had settled on my shoulders these past few days. Below me, waves crashed against jagged rocks, their rhythm steady and unchanging despite everything else in my world being in flux.

How strange to think about everything that had happened. Just a few years ago,

I was Rocco Blackwood’s perfect Luna, oblivious to his manipulation and hunger for revenge. Then came the sickness, the loss of my wolf, the devastating revelations about my marriage. I’d been broken down to nothing, only to rise from those ashes as someone stronger, someone who fought back against The Triads and helped save countless wolves

from mind control.

I closed my eyes, feeling the last warmth of the sun on my face. My father’s words from yesterday echoed in my mind: “Choose the path that’s true to who you are, not what others expect of you.”

But who was I, really? For so long, I’d been defined by my relationships to others: Rocco’s mate, Derek’s daughter, the child Vanessa abandoned. My identity had been pieced together from the expectations and disappointments of the people around me.

“I spent my whole life trying to be what everyone needed,” I whispered to the wind. “Rocco’s perfect Luna. My father’s loyal daughter. The survivor who would beat the heart- break syndrome.”

The realization hit me with startling clarity: this decision wasn’t just about choosing between two men. It was about choosing who I wanted to be.

Rocco represented our shared past the pain, the betrayal, but also the possibility of redemption and understanding. He knew me at my lowest, had seen every ugly truth, and still wanted to try again. There was comfort in that familiarity, in building something new from the ashes of what we’d burned.

Andy represented something entirely different – respect, partnership, and a clean slate. He’d never seen me as anything but strong and capable. With him, I could leave the

shadows of my past behind and forge a completely new path.

But The Triads were still out there. The fight wasn’t over. Did I want to step back into a quieter life with Rocco, or continue the battle alongside Andy?

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t hear the approaching footsteps until a familiar

voice called out.

“I figured I’d find you here.”

I spun around, heart leaping in my chest. “Harper?”

My oldest friend stood there, smiling warmly, two coffee cups in hand and a small paper bag tucked under her arm. Her dark hair was shorter than when I’d last seen her, but her

eyes held the same mischievous spark.

“Surprise!” She held out the coffee. “Derek said you might need a friend tonight.”

I crossed the distance between us in three quick strides and wrapped her in a tight hug, careful not to spill the coffee. “God, I’ve missed you. When did you get back?”

“This morning,” Harper said, returning the hug with equal fervor. “I’ve been up north helping relocate wolves affected by The Triads’ experiments.”

We broke apart, and she handed me one of the cups. The familiar scent of vanilla latte

wafted up, warming my insides before I even took a sip.

“How did you know I’d be here?” I asked, though deep down I already knew.

Harper’s lips quirked into a half-smile as she settled on the ground, patting the space beside her. “Please. This cliff has been your thinking spot since high school. Whenever you had a big decision to make, I’d find you here, staring at the ocean like it held all the
