The Flashback itself continues. (The flashback in a flashback was about Noelle telling the story to little Daisy).
Daisy sat there quietly, trying to absorb everything Noelle had just revealed. The more she thought about it all, the hotter the anger burned inside her chest. Her fists slowly clenched tight.
"This isn’t fair, Mom," she said, her voice trembling with raw frustration. "I should be the one learning how to become Luna."
Noelle gently brushed a strand of hair away from Daisy’s face. "There is still hope." A small, determined smile curled her lips. "Neither of you has received your wolf yet." She lowered her voice. "We can still pray for a miracle."
She leaned closer. "The truth is, only those who know about the gifted wolf would recognize her once she awakens." Her eyes carefully scanned the room before she continued. "Until then, you must be careful." She gently squeezed Daisy’s hand. "When no one else is around, you may call me Mother."
Her expression turned serious. "But whenever anyone is nearby, you will call me Aunt."
Daisy nodded. Even at her young age, she already understood the painful weight of pretending.
Her real mother was the Beta’s wife, yet she was forced to live as the daughter of an omega. Every single day she watched Seraphine enjoy the life that should have been hers.
The affection she had once felt for Seraphine for donating her blood to her slowly disappeared. Jealousy replaced admiration. Resentment replaced kindness. And hatred quietly settled deep inside her heart like a poison.
"I hate her," she said, her young face twisting with anger. "We should kill her."
"No." Noelle answered immediately, her tone leaving zero room for argument. "Seraphine stays alive."
Daisy frowned. "Why? Is it because you love her more than you love me?"
"No," Noelle quickly shook her head. "It’s because her blood is the only reason you’re still alive."
The room fell silent. Two more years passed, then everything changed once again.
One afternoon, Ravyn returned to the packhouse with another young boy. The moment Daisy saw Voren for the first time, her heart skipped a beat.
Even as a teenager, he carried himself differently from everyone else. His expression stayed cold and distant. His eyes revealed almost nothing. The other kids instinctively kept their distance from him. Something about him demanded respect without him ever saying a word.
Daisy couldn’t stop staring. She immediately decided she wanted him, but reality quickly disappointed her.
Voren barely acknowledged anyone except Seraphine. His eyes naturally followed her everywhere. Whenever Seraphine laughed, he looked in her direction. Whenever she spoke, he listened closely.
The attention Daisy desperately craved belonged entirely to the same girl who stole her identity as the beta’s daughter.
