“She’ll be back.”

“Yeah, but she’s still far.” she sighs, “I miss her so much, she would have cheered me up.”

“You should call her.” I offer, I myself can’t spend time with her and it must be hard to be separated from her friend during this difficult time. Her bully just returned and she happens to be my mate. “Or your other friends, you have plenty of friends, call some of them.”

“I would but they’re not-” she pauses, her eyes shifting.

My gaze mirrors hers and I see Mother approaching us in haste. For a moment, I think she is here to scold me about not being at the table but she doesn’t. “We’re leaving,” she says. “Cover the cheque.”

“Alright.” I nod.

She turns to leave but pauses, her gaze fixed on Audrey. “Audrey.”

“Yes, Luna Estelle?”

Mom smiles, pointing to her wrist, “That’s a nice bracelet you’ve got there.”

“Thank you,” Audrey beams, holding her hand up. “King gave it to me.”

“I see,” she nods, her eyes shifting to me. Cold and calculating. “I asked him to give the same one to my daughter- in-law.”

“She didn’t want it,” I swallow.

“Well you should have returned it to me,” she counters. “It’s a family heirloom for your wife to pass down. You can’t just give it to anyone.”

“Aeliana is anyone too,” I argue, making her glare even harder. I can count the number of times that my mom was ever disappointed in me on two fingers, and right now is one of those moments. “She is going to be family, no offence Audrey dear.”

Audrey nods, “I love the bracelet, Luna Estelle. Can I keep it?”

I expect her to cave.

But she shakes her head instead. “I’m sorry dear, I can get you another bracelet, or two but I’ll need that one back. That’s Aeliana’s bracelet. It was meant for Aeliana, if she doesn’t want it then it should be kept for her children.”

“Children?” I choke.

Mom frowns. “Are you sterile?”

“What? No. Where did you get that?”

“So there’s bound to be children.” she smiles. “They’ll wear it. Give it to me,” she demands, putting her hand out. “Oh.” Audrey swallows. “I’m sorry, Luna. I didn’t know.” She says quietly, trying to unclasp the bracelet but I stop her.

This is stupid.

It’s just a piece of jewellery and people are watching, she has been embarrassed enough because of me. “Stop. It’s

“But Aeliana-”

“I’ll find something else for her,” I say. I regret it as soon as the words leave my mouth. “But let Audrey keep her bracelet.”

Mom rolls her eyes, “Alright. I’ll see you later. Ro, Danielle is riding with us. Pick her up from my house later. Love you, kiss kiss, kiss.” She says, blowing one to each of us before she leaves.

Rowan shakes his head at me and I shrug.

I don’t see why Mom is obsessed with Aeliana or why she is now treating Audrey this way. Mom gives her things, she and Father bought her a car for her last birthday but she won’t let her have a bracelet?

“Babe,” Audrey coos.
