Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 168

Chapter 168

He is right.

In any other case, I would not be quick to even the score, but that was Audrey. It was a now or never, now being before I was sane enough to ignore her again. “But I intervened,” I deadpan. “Perhaps my method displeases you because your golden girl bled out her perfect nose.”

“No, I’m mad that could have ended differently.” He shoots back. “What if she hurt you? Then what?”

I shake my head. “She’ll never hurt me, in a physical fight, I can take her.”

“Yes.” He nods, his voice defeated. “You proved it, but please don’t get into any more physical fights.”

I pause, “With her?”

“With anyone,” he warns.

“She crossed the line,” I mumble.

“Lexie told me a bit of what happened, and I addressed it with the staff, but I didn’t speak to Audrey.” He confesses, “Yet.” He adds, seeing my glare.

“Why? The staff didn’t beat Lexie.” I say with an eyeroll. “Just admit it, you’re still protecting her.”

“No, I didn’t want to upset you by seeing her before we had a chance to talk. But after what I saw, I should be protecting her, not just her, but myself too, that was scary.”

“Right,” I nod to myself. “Because your golden girl crying is such a horror.”

“Can you stop with that?” He sighs, massaging his temples. “She’s not my golden girl.” He snaps, “You’re my golden girl.”

Me?

Golden?

Oh please. “Rusted,” I snort out.

“No, you’re perfect” he says, reaching for me. “And you’re mine.” He says, taking my hand in his. “Come here, sit down.”

I want to argue, but I sit down at the edge of my bed. He lifts my chin so I’m staring right at him, his other hand crushing over mine. “There is no one who would ever be perfect enough to compete with you in my eyes, you know that. You’re my favourite girl, Ellie, and I love you in every way possible.”

“Really?”

“Why is it so hard to believe that?”

“Because you rejected me,” I swallow. I don’t know how to truly let myself believe he loves me after all that. It was hardly two months ago, and what if he changed his mind again? “You let me walk home when I didn’t know the way while you drove Miss Golden Girl around like a princess,” I say, my gaze dropping.

“I take full responsibility for that mistake, things were different then and they’re different now.” He says, his tone low and regretful. “It’s just like you said earlier, I’m nothing but her Alpha now.”

“You still let me walk home and spent our wedding night with her.”

He laughs.

Fucking laughs, and it ticks me off. I try to pull my hand away, but he holds on tight. “I’m sorry, but nothing happened.”

My gaze lifts, “You really think I’m an idiot, don’t you?”

“Just one kiss,” he says, watching me carefully. “And maybe we touched. I was drunk, but I know for a fact that I didn’t fuck her.”
