Chapter 43

Peace?

I almost laugh. “I don’t think I’ll have any peace with her.” I truthfully say. Aeliana is a force, more so now that she seems to have grown an extra mouthpiece.

“The way youre moving? I doubt it too, and you were wrong, this is all your fault.” she snaps, slapping my arm.

“Mine?” I try not to wince, Danielle has a strong arm.

“Yes,” she nods. “I don’t need to know what she said about Audrey, but there is no circumstance that justifies you defending your mistress, and before you come at me,” she warns. “That’s what Audrey is now that you’re married.”

“No,” I shake my head. “She isn’t my mistress, I am not sleeping with her.”

“That changes nothing,” She pauses. Pinning me with the same disappointed stare my mother would if and when I did things she didn’t approve of as a child. It’s chilling-almost. “You still picked her side, and slapped your wife because of her, that’s unforgivable. You’re lucky Luna Aeilana doesn’t seem to be the type to dwell or hold grudges because if that were me?” She scoffs, her eyes lighting up with a concerning fire. “You wouldn’t see tomorrow, respectfully.”

Respectfully?

In what way is that threat respectful? “I’m scared to ask but what do you mean by see tomorrow? You’d kill me?” I frown. Whatever I just saw in her eyes, Aeilana has a bit of it too, but she never acts or says it out loud.

“Oh no,” she laughs, “That’s far too kind. I would gouge your eyes out and feed them to you, then have you live that

way until eighty, and then I would slowly start to poison you. But..” she pauses, her lips twitching with a smile. Is this exciting for her? “I would have you read graphic horrors in braille but they would have to be about me gouging your eyes out, and here’s the twist. Since I already took your eyes, in each horror I craft, I would like to add a new dismemberment. To keep things exciting.”

Exciting?

What serial killer did Rowan bring home? She is worse than her psychotic brother. “I’ll tell Rowan to be wary of you.”

“He knows,” Shw says with a twisted smile. “And has made peace with the consequences of his actions. As should you,” she says, her voice calm but I don’t miss the warning undertone. I always thought Rowan wasn’t as calm as her, but now it’s him that I’m worried about.

“Well, thanks for the insightful talk,” I tell her, a chat that has me widely concerned but not enough to drown the thoughts of Aeliana.

Danielle nods, “You’re welcome. Pray your wife continues not to want to hang out with me.”

I nod, leaving her by the staircase. I make my way to my office, the quiet in here echoing my thoughts.

I didn’t know Aeliana felt that way, I was so caught up in hating our bond that it didn’t occur to me that she was suffering too. She didn’t once act like it but looking back now, I know it’s hard for her to be living here again. A few people have tried to visit her but she turned them down, she doesn’t have any close friends, and no one likes her here. She spends her days in the garden out of boredom, she stares at nothing in particular or watches movies alone in the home cinema. I didn’t know she was that lonely.
