Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 85

Chapter 85

“Are you sure?” She frowns, “I know it can be an adjustment stepping into your role as Luna, so if you need any help, or anyone to talk to? I’m here, daughter. I won’t judge, I’ve been there.”

Her concern warms my heart, she doesn’t just put up with me because I’m his wife, she actually cares. I didn’t see it before but now? I’m far more than grateful. “Thank you,” I tell her.

She nods, “I would offer to train you to my best ability, but you have the makings of a true Luna, that’s not something that can be taught, it’s born with you.” She tells me, sounding genuinely proud. “The moon goddess really did amazing with you, do you want to know a secret, daughter?” She smiles, motioning between us. “Just between us.”

I nod, intrigued and overwhelmed by her motherly warmth. “I prayed for you,” she almost whispers. “Dante used to laugh at me, but I didn’t stop asking the moon goddess for you. I didn’t know it would be you, but I prayed. I even tried other religions, I went to church, the mosque, temples, and even accompanied elders to shrines.” She laughs.

“Why?” I gulp.

She shrugs, “I realised Kingston wasn’t going to let Audrey go, and I wanted more for this pack than her. The girl is great, but she doesn’t have it in her, and if King didn’t find his mate, she would have been the Luna.” She says, twitching slightly, like the thought is horrid, and honestly, I see it too. Audrey as Luna is horrifying, she’d love the worship but only work to benefit herself. That’s not what Mooncrest stands for.

Luna Estelle smiles, “Thankfully, the moon goddess listened, maybe not her but some God out there heard this Luna’s desperate heart and then, brought you to me.”

I gulp.

I wasn’t interested in being Luna, I haven’t wanted any responsibility that comes with the title, but seeing the way that Luna Estelle believes in me, I want to try. My relationship with Kingston might be toast, but I want to be the Luna that she believes I can be. It’s not just about assumption, she says it like I already am, and I won’t let her down. “I’m going to try my best for this pack, Lun-Mom.” I instantly correct myself.

Her lips curve into a wide grin, and she nods, brushing a hand over my hair, petting me. “Just be yourself, and trust yourself, Aeliana. The only time you keep your ears open to your people is when they cry to you, not when they criticise you, opinions change daily. You can be Luna and still be you, don’t lose yourself to the responsibility.”

“How?”

“By trying to appease everyone,” she says. “Personally, I prefer a safe pack, over a pleased one. Do you understand what I’m trying to say?”

“Yes,” I nod. I don’t fully grasp it but I have an idea, and I won’t let her down. I will take on the obligations of a Luna, and I’ll be great, just so I can see that proud smile she showed me just now. “Do you have any more wise advice for me?”

“Yes,” she nods. “The most important one of all, visit your mother-in-law, call her, send her pictures, have dinner with her even if it’s just once a month. I didn’t do that, but mine was a grumpy know-it-all.”

We both laugh at that, and I nod. “I’ll remember that.”

“Good, we can start today. Why don’t you guys stay for dinner? I can make your favourite, just tell me what it is.”

“I don’t know if Kingston has plans, but I’d love to eat anything you make.”

Her widens, Excellent,” she claps. “He can leave if he wants to, but…” she trails off, looking over my shoulder. I turn to find King, Rowan, and a few others, Maddox included who wasn’t in the meeting earlier. “Boys, you’re staying for dinner.” She tells them.

Not one of them argues, Kingston’s eyes drop to me, and I shrug. “Come on, daughter, lets het started on dinner.”

“She can’t cook,” Kingston says, his eyes still on me.

“Not entirely true,” I frown. Is he trying to embarrass me in front of his Mom? The woman just showed me she thinks the world of me, and he comes trying to ruin it.

Luna Estelle waves him off, “Doesn’t matter, a woman’s place isn’t in the kitchen anymore. And I’m doing the cooking, she’s keeping me company.’
