Alpha's STOLEN Mate (by Abigail Hayes) novel Chapter 120

Chapter 120

Elowen

The moment Silas’s verdict fell, Frost and I moved as one-no more patience, no more restraint. We lunged forward, placing ourselves

between Kaius and the advancing guards.

I glanced back at him, my voice barely a whisper. “We should run. Now.”

But Kaius shook his head, his eyes gleaming despite his exhaustion. “Once you shift into your white wolf form, you can heal me instantly. Together, they don’t stand a chance against us.”

Doubt clawed at my insides. These were ancient Elders, wielding powers I barely understood. But more than that-was fighting really the right choice? I tugged at his arm, urging him toward the exit.

He didn’t budge. Instead, he straightened, and I watched in amazement as his battered body seemed to draw strength from somewhere deep within. The exhaustion melted from his face, replaced by cold defiance. He smiled-actually smiled—at the Council.

“Elder Silas,” Kaius called out, his voice ringing clear through the hall. “Your bloodline has endured a thousand years. Are you prepared for it to end today?” His grin sharpened. “Go back to your sanctuaries. Stop interfering with the Alpha King’s rule. But if you insist on this guilty verdict…” He paused, letting the threat hang in the air. “Then I have no choice but to resist.”

Silas shot to his feet, fury contorting his features. “You could have faced imprisonment! But with this insolence, we may execute you on

the spot!”

My stomach dropped as I stared at the Elder’s threatening expression.

Rowan descended from the dais slowly, her eyes moving between Kaius and me with predatory interest. “So this is your mate. The legendary white wolf.” Her lips curved mockingly. “Is that why you’re so bold?”

She circled me like I was prey, her gaze dripping with contempt. “Too naive. Too foolish. Too young.” Then she turned back to Kaius. “Are you certain you want to defy us now? You can’t rely on your mate.”

“Watch your tongue,” Kaius growled. “You’ll be the first one I kill.”

Rowan’s laugh sent ice down my spine-a sound that promised terrible things,

As she passed me to return to the platform, she leaned close, her whisper meant for my ears alone: “A berserk white wolf is far more lethal to your mate than any Elder. Her breath was hot against my ear. “You know your craving to unleash your full power. And he would be your perfect opponent.”

Horror flooded through me. Fuck. How did she know I’d lost control before?

The memory crashed over me-the cave, Frost’s terrified face, Kaius bleeding beneath my claws. I’d nearly killed them both.

My resolve wavered. What if I lost control again? What if-

“Guards,” Rowan commanded from above. “Take Kaius to the dungeons. We’ll decide his fate later.”

“Go fuck yourself,” Kaius snarled.

“Wait- I started to say, reaching for him.

Too late.

wounds

The transformation was instantaneous. One moment Kaius stood beside me; the next, a massive black wolf filled the space, covering his magnificent form but rage burning in his eyes. Despite his injuries, the sheer fury radiating from him made the entire

Council recoil.

He was on Rowan in a heartbeat, claws raking across her chest, leaving deep crimson streaks. His massive paw closed around her throat, pinning her to the floor.

Rowan’s face flushed dark red, veins bulging-but impossibly, she was still smiling. She looked directly into the black wolf’s eyes, her voice strained but steady. “Can your wounded body… truly resist my aura?”

Her arms wrapped around his back, embracing him even as he choked her. Her eyes locked onto his, and I saw Kaius’s fierce gaze begin to

dim, grow heavy.

Elowen! His voice crashed into my mind through our bond. What are you doing? I can’t… hold on much longer!

“Fuck!” Frost shouted beside me. “Elowen, you have to shift! Heal him now!”

I steeled myself, pushing aside my fears about the cave incident. I reached for the transformation, feeling it begin-

And then the visions hit.

I saw myself as the white wolf, magnificent and terrible. My claws descended toward Silas-but in the split second before impact, it wasn’t the Elder beneath me. It was Kaius, his eyes wide with shock as my claws tore into his chest.

Another vision: I’m healing Kaius, my white wolf form glowing with restorative magic. But suddenly lightning erupts from my body, uncontrolled, wild. It tears through him, burning from the inside out. I shift back to human form, sobbing, cradling his smoking corpse,

but he’s already gone.

Vision after vision, each one showing me a different way I would kill him. Each one unbearably real.

“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck!” I gasped, clutching my head. “I’m seeing the future!”

“What future?!” Frost grabbed my shoulders, shaking me. “Forget that! You won’t hurt him! Just shift!”

Bet the visions intensified, becoming more vivid, more certain. In every possible future where I transformed, Kaius died by my hand.

Fuck, let me think!” I shouted at Frost, my voice breaking

While we argued, Kaius’s strength finally gave out. The black wolf collapsed, shrinking back into his human form. He lay crumpled on the

marble floor, barely conscious.

Silas’s smile was triumphant, utterly unsurprised. “Take the Alpha King into custody.”

Frost and I started forward, but Rowan stepped between us and Kaius’s prone form.

“Really?” She tilted her head at me, that knowing smile still playing at her lips. “Do you truly believe you can shift right now? With all those futures you’re seeing?

My blood ran cold. How did the know about my visions?

Before I could respond-before I could scream at her-Kaius’s eyes found mine. Even half-conscious, even defeated, his gaze was steady. It told me: It’s okay. Don’t blame yourself.

I exhaled shakily, watching helplessly as guards hauled him away. Fuck, I thought bitterly. When it mattered most, I couldn’t do anything

Once Kaius disappeared through the dungeon entrance, Silas rose from his throne. “Alpha King Kaius has submitted to his guilt. He will spend three days in penitence. And on the fourth day, under the Moon Goddess’s gaze…” His voice dropped to something almost gentle,

almost sad.

“He will willingly accept his execution.”
