Chapter 168

My patience evaporated. “This Assembly,” I snapped, my voice dropping to something dangerous, “was called to inform you of the threat.
To ensure you understand the danger. I am not here to debate with you. I am not here to provide fucking evidence like I’m on trial.”
I descended the steps, eyes locked on Derick. “If you don’t trust your King’s word-if you don’t believe in my authority-then you’re
welcome to leave. Right now. Get the fuck out of my territory.”
The room went silent. No one moved.

But before I could continue, Amir from Eastern Valley stood. “What about the golden wolf? All our missing wolves-they’ve been connected to sightings of it. It appears near our territories, lures our people out, and they vanish.” His eyes narrowed. “A golden wolf of that size is incredibly rare. It matches the description of the former Alpha King-your father.”
Murmurs of agreement rippled through.
“So tell us, Alpha King,” Amir pressed, voice rising. “Is this entire crisis something you and your father orchestrated? Are you
manufacturing fear to consolidate power?”
I moved before I could think.
One moment I was on the platform. The next, my hand was wrapped around Amir’s throat, lifting him slightly off his feet. His face went from flushed with anger to pale with terror.
“Say one more word about my father,” I growled, barely human, “and I will rip your fucking throat out. Right here. Right now.”
Amir made a strangled sound, hands clawing uselessly.
“My father is a victim. He is suffering. And if you think I would dishonor his memory by using him in some political game, you don’t know
me at all.”
I released him suddenly. Amir crumpled to the floor, gasping.
“Anyone else want to accuse me of something?” I looked around, daring them.
Silence. The Alphas looked away. The room had turned cold, hostile again. My outburst had destroyed whatever cooperation I’d been
building.
Fuck. I’ve lost them.
Then Elowen stood.
She moved with easy confidence, climbing onto the platform to stand beside me. Not challenging my authority, but supporting it.

“Everyone’s skepticism is understandable,” she said, her voice calm and reasonable-stark contrast to my rage. “In fact, it’s healthy to question extraordinary claims. But your skepticism needs to have limits.”
She pulled out rolled papers from her jacket-maps, notes, sketches. She spread them across the table where everyone could see.
“These are my personal records,” she continued. “Documented sightings of transformed wolves, complete with dates, locations, and
detailed descriptions of their abilities.” She pointed to marks on the map. “Here, here, and here-confirmed encounters with enhanced
rogues exhibiting supernatural speed and strength.”
The Alphas leaned forward, studying with new interest.
“Each entry includes sketches of the creatures, notes on their combat patterns, and cross-references with missing wolf reports from
nearby packs.” She met their eyes steadily. “This isn’t speculation. This is evidence. Collected over months of investigation.”
Holy fuck. When did she-how did she find time-
She’d been investigating alone. Methodically documenting everything while I’d been distracted. While I’d been dealing with Rowan and my
father.
She’s been carrying this investigation by herself. Building the case I should have built.
Shame hit me hard. Followed by overwhelming gratitude.
Without her here today, I’d be dead in the water.
“If any of you still doubt,” Elowen continued, “I can arrange for the Chief Elder to give you a comprehensive lecture on Flesh-Weavers- their history, methods, capabilities.” She paused. “Though I should warn you, once he starts talking about magical theory, he doesn’t stop.
You’ll be here for hours.”
A few nervous laughs broke the tension. The Alphas were relaxing, their suspicion giving way to reluctant belief.
Helena, a shrewd Alpha, spoke up. “Well, Elowen, your evidence is convincing. We believe you.” She glanced at me. “But what about the golden wolf? Can you explain that situation?”
Elowen hesitated for the first time. I saw uncertainty flicker across her face.
She doesn’t want to betray my trust without permission.
I stepped forward, placing myself in front of all those judging eyes.
“The golden wolf,” I said, my voice rougher than intended, “is my father. Aldric Blackthorne. The former Alpha King.”
Shocked silence.

Chapter 168
“He’s been transformed. Turned into Morgath’s weapon. Her most prized pet. The admission tasted like ash. “He’s the one luring wolves
away. He’s the reason so many of you have lost people.”
I could see horror, pity, calculation in their faces. Some already wondering if I was too compromised to lead.
“This is my fault,” I said, and the words came clearer now. “My father’s capture happened under my watch. His transformation, his current
actions-I bear responsibility for all of it.”
I met each Alpha’s gaze directly. “I will fix this. I will either save him-break whatever hold Morgath has and restore him to himself-or…”
My throat tried to close around the words, but I forced them out. “Or I will kill him myself. Whatever it takes to stop him from hurting
more of our people.”
