Chapter 128 His Jealousy Was Bubbling Over
‘Natasha?’ Nicolas’s eyes lit up the moment he heard her name.
He had always held a very favorable impression of Natasha.
“Let her in, quick!” Nicolas urged.
The manager breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness that woman really is Nicolas’s sister-in-law; he thought. ‘If she’d dared to lie to Nicolas, I’d be in deep trouble too.
‘After all, the people in this VIP room are the most powerful and untouchable in the whole club.’
“Your assistant’s here!” Nicolas said as he glanced at Jared sitting next to him, his tone full of playful interest.
Jared felt a quiet thrill when he heard Natasha had come.
But the thought that she had come for Nicolas, not for him, instantly filled him with an indescribable irritation, darkening his eyes and clouding his entire expression.
Moments later, Natasha stepped into the private suite, guided by the manager.
As soon as she walked in, Jared zeroed in on her.
His hazel, piercing stare was so intense that Natasha couldn’t possibly ignore it.
She was taken aback, her face showing a hint of nervousness.
She never imagined Jared would be here too when she came to find Nicolas.
The last thing Natasha wanted was to get tangled up with Jared again.
‘Why did I have to bump into him again tonight?’ Natasha thought, a wave of frustration washing over her.
Before she knew it, the manager had ushered Natasha right up to Nicolas.
“Mr. Milford is right here!” the manager said, gesturing toward him.
Natasha pulled herself together and looked at the man standing before her.
He wore a floral shirt and black trousers, with a handsome yet bewitching appearance, his captivating eyes holding a playful, nonchalant smile.
“Nicolas!” Natasha blurted out, almost without thinking.
Hearing her call him by his name sent a jolt of excitement through Nicolas, making his whole body tingle.
Jared’s face turned even gloomier.
The rich kids in the suite started whistling and making a fuss, clearly having a blast with the whole thing.
Nicolas scooted over a bit. “Come on, sit here.”
Natasha couldn’t help but feel awkward and speechless.
Nicolas actually had her sit right between him and Jared.
Normally, it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but Natasha could practically feel the danger rolling off Jared in waves.
He was dressed head-to-toe in black, his whole figure swallowed up by the dim light, making it impossible to read his expression.
But Natasha could swear his sharp, shadowed gaze was locked right on her.
She’d just had her way with him last night, then drew a clear line between them right after.
Now, she’d rather keep as much distance from him as possible.
“No, thanks. I’ll say what I need to and leave,” Natasha instinctively declined.
She turned to Nicolas and asked, “Nicolas, did you know Joelle’s gone missing?”
Nicolas was stunned, his eyes wide. “Wait, what? Joelle’s missing?”
Seeing his reaction, Natasha could tell he really had no idea.
‘Well, that makes sense, Natasha thought. ‘After all, ever since he and Joelle got married, they’ve been living separate lives, and with divorce right around the corner, it’s no wonder he barely paid her any mind.’
But Natasha couldn’t believe that Joelle had been missing for two days, and Nicolas, who was still, at least in name, her brother-in-law, didn’t even know. ‘Isn’t that just too much?’ she thought.

“Do you have any idea where she is?” Natasha pressed, though she knew full well she was most likely asking for nothing, “No idea,” Nicolas replied impatiently.
He had thought Natasha was there on Joelle’s behalf to dissuade him from getting a divorce, but to his surprise, she told him that Joelle had gone missing.
Natasha’s brows knitted together. “The Whittier family has been searching for her these past few days, but we still haven’t found her…”
‘And the longer this drags on, the more likely it is that something bad has happened to Joelle; Natasha thought to herself.
Nicolas’s charming eyes flashed with a rare seriousness. “Alright. Go back and tell your family that I’ll make sure my people, track her down!”
After all, at least on paper, he and Joelle were still married.
With the divorce looming, if something happened to Joelle right now, he couldn’t just wash his hands of it.
“Thanks for helping out then,” Natasha said.
With Nicolas’s people on the case, they’d have a much better shot at finding Joelle quickly.
That was exactly why Sandra had sent her to Nicolas in the first place.
Nicolas got up from the couch. “Let’s go. I’ll drive you back, and bring some people along to help search for your sister.”
This was of great importance, and he was in no mood to stay in the private room for eating, drinking, and merrymaking any longer.
Right now, finding Joelle was the top priority.
Natasha nodded, about to head out with Nicolas.
But Jared suddenly spoke up from behind them. “You go ahead. I’ll drive her back.”
He was clearly talking to Nicolas.
Earlier, when Jared heard Natasha had come for Nicolas instead of him, and then called Nicolas by his name with that intimate tone, his jealousy was practically fizzing over, bubbling up so hard that he could barely stand it.
He squeezed his wine glass so tight he nearly shattered it.
He couldn’t even figure out why he was so worked up.
It was like someone else was taking what should’ve been his.
‘Besides, isn’t this woman married?’ Jared thought. ‘She’d played the “I have a husband” card to shut me down more than
once.
‘Even though we’ve already slept together, she still insists on keeping her distance from me.
‘But now, she waltzes in here looking for another guy. Doesn’t she care if her husband gets jealous?’
Jared was already fuming inside.
But when he heard Natasha had come to Nicolas because her sister Joelle had suddenly gone missing, his gaze shifted instantly, half of his anger melting away.
‘So that’s why she came to Nicolas. It’s an emergency, Jared realized.
Nicolas turned to Jared, a hint of uncertainty in his voice. “You…”
He paused, unsure if he should really let Jared be the one to take Natasha home.
He had no idea how far things had gone between Natasha and Jared,
But since Jared was her boss and she was his assistant, it felt safer to let Jared handle it than to trust anyone else.
Still, Nicolas couldn’t shake the feeling that he was handing them another chance to get closer.
Instinctively, he really didn’t want to hand Jared this opportunity.
