Chapter 139 Team-Building

Chapter 139 Team-Building

Derek seemed to realize something and quickly let go of Natasha.

He quickly explained, “Mr. Rundell, we-”

“None of my business,” Jared cut him off coldly.

Then, without another word, he walked past them with a blank expression, not even sparing Natasha a glance

He walked away in long strides.

Natasha could clearly feel the coldness and determination radiating from him as he walked past.

‘It seems he took my words from this morning to heart and has decided to cut ties with me, she thought.

Derek watched Jared’s cold, aloof figure as he strode away, then turned to Natasha.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

“Did you and Mr. Rundell have a fight or something?” Derek asked.

Natasha just gave a bitter smile, her eyes unusually complex.

For dinner, Natasha went out to a restaurant with her friend Dorothy.

“I can’t believe our department is finally team-building with the CEO’s office. We get to go to Oakna Isle together tomorrow Dorothy said excitedly.

The company was known for its generous perks, and from time to time, they’d set up team-building events so colleagues from different departments could mingle and connect.

This time, it was the turn of the project department and the CEO’s office.

Now Dorothy and Natasha could go together.

But after chatting for a while, Dorothy realized Natasha was oddly quiet, lost in her own thoughts.

“Nat, what’s going on?” Dorothy asked, waving her hand in front of Natasha’s face.

Her gut told her that Natasha was definitely not herself today.

“Dorothy, I’m divorced,” Natasha blurted out after snapping back to her senses, looking up at Dorothy.

Dorothy was taken aback. “What did you just say?”

Natasha met her gaze and repeated, “Percy and I finalized our divorce yesterday. But for now, we have to keep it under wraps.”

She told Dorothy the basics about her divorce from Percy.

Dorothy pursed her lips after hearing the whole story. “Percy is really something else. Even after the divorce, he still insists on dragging you into this act with him. If I were you, I’d definitely ask him for another 30 million dollars.”

Natasha shrugged. “Forget it. I can’t let the Whittier family find out about the divorce either. We’re both in the same boat.”

She agreed to keep the divorce under wraps for now, which also served her own interests.

If the Whittier family found out she’d gone ahead and divorced Percy without their say-so, she’d probably be kicked out of the family for good.

Dorothy knew how tough things were for Natasha, so she didn’t push it. She just asked, “So, what are you going to do now?”

Natasha replied, “I’m planning to leave the Whittier family and leave this place for good.”

Dorothy’s eyes widened in surprise. “You’re leaving? Where will you go?”

Natasha said with firm resolve, “Anywhere, really. As long as I can break free from the Whittier family.”

She’d spent decades swallowing her pride and putting up with the Whittier family’s demands.

She was done with it.

If she stayed any longer, she’d be another pawn for them to move around, never having a say in her own life.

The only reason she hadn’t made up her mind to leave before was because of her mother, Sandra.

She always wanted to take Sandra with her.

But after so many times, she finally saw things clearly.

Chapter 139 Team-Building

Sandra was just like Roxanne and Bernard. They were all the same.

Joelle and Collin were the only ones who mattered to them.

There had never been a place for her in their hearts.

Therefore, even if she really took Sandra with her, Sandra wouldn’t be happy anyway.

‘It’ll be better to let her stay here with Joelle and Collin, whom she truly loves, Natasha thought.

Dorothy couldn’t help but worry. “But where will you go on your own?”

Natasha replied, “Don’t worry. I’m an adult, I can take care of myself.”

She’d already made up her mind. She was leaving after the New Year.

That was only two or three months away.

After dinner, Natasha and Dorothy headed to the supermarket together.

They picked up some essentials for their trip to Oakna Isle tomorrow,

As they passed the bakery section, Dorothy suddenly remembered ham and cheese sandwiches Natasha had made for their last team-building event at work.

She still remembered how good they tasted, so she brought them up again.

Natasha smiled. “Want me to whip up some more? We can snack on them during the trip.”

Dorothy’s eyes lit up. “Really? That’s perfect!”

She hugged Natasha happily.

When Natasha got home, she took a quick shower and went to bed early.

She set her alarm for five in the morning, got up bright and early, and made ham and cheese sandwiches, planning to share them with Dorothy and her colleagues.

After finishing up, she quickly tidied up, grabbed a bite to eat, and headed out.

Everyone from both departments for the team-building had gathered at the company entrance.

When Natasha arrived, she saw two luxury buses parked at the entrance.

Dorothy was already on one of the buses, waving at her.

“Nat, over here!” Dorothy called out.

Natasha got on the bus and spotted Dorothy sitting in the very last row.

She made her way over and was just about to take the empty window seat.

But Dorothy quickly grabbed her arm. “Mr. Jackson just said this seat is reserved for the execs.”

“The execs?” Natasha was taken aback. “We’re actually getting a higher-up at today’s team-building?”

Dorothy shrugged. “Yeah, there’s always a big shot who comes along for these events. Just not sure which one is showing up for our departments this time.”

Everyone else was already on the bus, just waiting for the last person.

The only one missing was the exec. He still hadn’t arrived.

It wasn’t until almost thirty minutes later that the exec finally made his entrance, fashionably late.

Originally, everyone was getting restless and impatient.

But the moment the exec showed up, everyone was stunned, because it was none other than the CEO himself, Jared, the one everyone rarely saw in person.

All the grumbling and impatience vanished in an instant.
