The sandwich tasted surprisingly good.

Aside from the cheese, they were filled with cucumber strips, crab sticks, and a savory sauce.

After finishing one, Jared reached for another.

When Natasha boarded the bus, she happened to see Jared leisurely eating the sandwiches she had made.

She froze on the spot.

‘Didn’t he just turn it down?’ she thought. ‘Why is he snacking on it in secret now?’

Jared totally didn’t expect Natasha to get on the bus just then.

He almost choked, caught completely off guard.

Natasha passed him a bottle of water, looking concerned.

Jared grabbed it, tilted his head back, and took a big gulp, finally swallowing the sandwich.

‘Wait, Mr. Rundell is actually blushing?’ she wondered.

She thought she was imagining things, but when she took a closer look, she realized his blush had only gotten deeper.

Natasha stood there, awkwardly frozen in place.

She really had no clue what to say.

‘I’m probably the first person to spot Jared blushing. Is he going to silence me for this?’ Natasha thought, half-joking to herself.

She didn’t dare stick around any longer and bolted off the bus.

She kept running, anxiously glancing over her shoulder at the bus.

Then, with a loud thud, she bumped right into someone.

“Are you alright?” a male voice asked.

Natasha looked up and saw it was the new project manager, Zayn Jackson.

He and Natasha used to be colleagues in the project department.

Later, the original project manager, Frank, got into trouble, and Zayn was promoted to the current manager due to his outstanding performance.

Zayn was one of those high-achievers who’d recently returned from studying overseas.

He was young, handsome, and still single.

He had all the girls in the office swooning over him.

“I’m fine, sorry for bumping into you,” Natasha said, shaking her head apologetically.

“It’s all good, I didn’t see you either,” Zayn replied with a friendly smile, making it clear he wasn’t upset at all.

Since they were going hiking, Natasha went makeup-free.

But even without a trace of makeup, her features were strikingly delicate and beautiful.

Her black-and-white plaid dress gave her an alluring yet vibrant vibe.

Zayn had noticed her back when they were both in the project department.

But he’d never gotten the chance to talk to her.

Now, coincidentally, they actually bumped into each other.

It felt like he could leap out and rip them apart at any second.

Natasha sensed danger in the air and instinctively looked around.

But she didn’t spot anyone who seemed suspicious.

Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching her in the shadows, and the presence was so intense and menacing that it felt extremely dangerous.

When she got back on the bus, Jared was gone from the spot by the window where he’d been sitting before.

He was nowhere to be seen, even as the bus pulled away.

“Mr. Rundell isn’t bailing on us, is he? Is he not coming to Oakna Isle with us?” Dorothy asked, her voice tinged with disappointment.

Natasha pursed her lips. “Who knows?”

But deep down, she thought, ‘Honestly, it’s way less stressful with Jared not around.

‘Maybe he got off the bus because he felt awkward that I caught him red-handed snacking on my sandwiches.”

“I thought I’d get to share the ride with Mr. Rundell,” Dorothy sighed, sounding disappointed.

She then spotted that Natasha’s lunchbox was missing two sandwiches.

“Wait, why are there two gone?” Dorothy asked, her eyes widening in surprise.

Natasha hesitated, “Well…”

‘I can’t just blurt out that Mr. Rundell had snuck two, can I?’ she thought to herself. ‘And honestly, even if I did spill, Dorothy probably wouldn’t buy it anyway.’

“Nat, did you eat them yourself?” Dorothy asked, sounding a bit suspicious.

“I guess you could say that,” Natasha admitted awkwardly, not really wanting to explain.

Two hours later, their bus pulled up at Oakna Isle, in the lot of a resort right at the base of the mountain.

Everyone piled out of the bus, one after another.

As soon as Natasha got off the bus, Dorothy pulled her aside, her voice buzzing with excitement. “Look, Mr. Rundell didn’t leave. He just got out of his luxury ride!”

Natasha followed Dorothy’s pointing finger and, sure enough, spotted Jared stepping out of his Rolls-Royce.

Turned out, his Rolls-Royce had come all the way to Oakna Isle, too.

‘But if Jared’s driver drove his Rolls-Royce all the way here, Natasha thought; ‘why did he bother riding the bus with us earlier?

‘Was he trying to act all friendly with the staff? Maybe he wanted to seem more approachable? Anyway, there’s no way he’d do all that just because of me… right?’

Natasha spaced out for a moment, caught up in her own wild guesses.

In the sunlight, her flawless skin practically lit up, making her look even more stunning and radiant.

The guys walking past her were totally transfixed, their eyes glued to her as if they’d never seen anyone so gorgeous.

Zayn was no exception.

“Need a hand with your luggage?” Zayn called out, striding over with a friendly smile.

Natasha snapped out of her daze and shook her head awkwardly. “No, thanks.”

Zayn was super enthusiastic. “No worries, really! I barely brought anything myself, so I can help carry your luggage.”

With that, he picked up Natasha and Dorothy’s suitcases right away.

Natasha was about to turn him down, but Dorothy had already thanked Zayn before she could even speak.

Natasha had no choice but to follow along with them.

On the other side, as soon as Jared stepped out of his car, the resort manager warmly welcomed him with a big smile.
