Chapter 144 Her One and Only Lover
Chapter 144 Her One and Only Lover
Natasha wanted to cut all ties with him.
Besides, her nerves were still on edge from the emotional turmoil he’d just stirred up.
Her expression was icy, with a touch of aloofness as she said, “Mr. Rundell, I didn’t expect to see you here.”
Seeing how desperate she was to escape, Jared’s brows furrowed deeply.
A cold glint flashed in his hazel eyes. “Mr. Rundell? You sure didn’t call me that in bed.”
A hint of awkwardness flickered across Natasha’s face.
‘When I was in bed earlier, I was forced by him. Can that be taken seriously?’ she scoffed inwardly.
Natasha fought to free herself from Jared’s hold, but no matter how hard she struggled, his grip was unbreakable.
Jared squeezed her wrist even tighter, his gaze turning stormy and cold.
“Say something!” Jared barked, his voice low and commanding.
Natasha could tell from the tension in his face that Jared was pissed.
But she honestly had no clue what he was so upset about.
After all, they’d already agreed to go their separate ways.
‘Is he regretting it now?’ Natasha wondered.
“What do you want me to say?” Natasha blinked, baffled.
Seriously, she had no idea what was left for them to even talk about.
Jared’s eyes locked onto her, icy and unyielding.
Dark, conflicted emotions shadowed his handsome features.
“Weren’t you the one who said you didn’t want a divorce?” Jared asked.
Natasha stared at him, her eyes wide with confusion. “So what?”
Jared advanced on her, each step radiating a suffocating intensity that made the air feel heavy and thick.
Then, he said, “I asked you to be with me, and you refused. But you’re fine hooking up with someone else?”
His expression was icy, and his eyes glinted like razor blades.
Natasha was forced to step back, her eyes flickering with bewilderment.
“Someone else? Who did I ever say yes to?” she shot back, genuinely baffled.
She was totally lost, having no clue what he was on about.
Jared’s aura was cold and intense.
Without warning, he abruptly pinned her against the tree behind her, closing the distance in an instant.
“Don’t play dumb with me!” Jared snapped, his voice low and dangerous.
His hazel eyes fixated on hers, seething with jealousy.
“Wasn’t it just now you had that guy carry your suitcase for you?” Jared shot at her, his tone sharp and accusing.
Natasha froze for a second.
Then she realized he meant Zayn.
“You mean Mr. Jackson?” Natasha blurted out, her eyes going wide in disbelief.
‘Why would he think I have anything going on with Zayn?’ Natasha wondered, utterly confused. ‘Wait, was that piercing gaze I felt at the service area actually from him?’
‘Mr. Jackson?’ Hearing Natasha call Zayn “Mr. Jackson,” Jared realized he might have gotten the wrong idea.
‘If they really had something going on, she’d probably just use his name, Jared thought.
But he was still pissed.
‘If they’re not even a thing, then what was with that smile she gave Zayn?’ Jared fumed, jealousy burning in his chest. ‘And seriously, why’d she let him carry her suitcase?’
Jared’s voice was icy as he demanded angrily, “Isn’t having me as your lover enough for you? Now you’re trying to flirt with some pretty boy?”

His words dripped with obvious jealousy.
Natasha’s mind went blank. She was completely caught off guard.
She couldn’t believe he’d say something so outrageous.
‘Lover? Pretty boy? Where did that even come from?’ Natasha thought, totally baffled. ‘We’ve already cleared things up
between us.
‘Now, we are just boss and assistant. That’s it. He isn’t my lover, far from it.
‘As for the idea that I was flirting with Zayn? That’s just absurd.’
But she didn’t even get a chance to explain before Jared grew impatient.
He grabbed her shoulders, pressing her for an answer, desperation clear in his voice. “Answer me!”
Natasha was seriously speechless.
“It’s really not what you think…” she tried to explain, her voice trailing off.
“Then what is it?” Jared pressed, his eyes locked onto hers, intense and unyielding.
Jared was right up against her, barely an inch between them.
Their breaths tangled, filling the air between them.
Natasha caught the unmistakable scent of him, deep and masculine, which made her feel somewhat distracted and unsettled.
That heat she’d fought so hard to push down was creeping back up again, threatening to take over.
She knew she couldn’t afford to let this continue.
If her nerves acted up again, it’d be real trouble.
Natasha instinctively pushed against Jared’s chest. “Can you not get so close? Just let go, okay?”
Jared was determined to get an answer out of her. There was no way he was letting her off easy.
He thought her evasive words were a way of dodging the question.
He was struggling to keep his emotions in check.
He couldn’t help but remind her, “Don’t forget, you’re married. You’re someone’s wife! Smiling at other men, letting them get close to you… How can you face your husband after that?”
Natasha was speechless.
‘What does it have to do with him whether I’m a good wife or not?’ she thought. ‘First of all, Zayn and I are nothing like what
he thinks.
‘And even if Zayn and I really had something going on, since Percy and I are already divorced now, I’m single again. I’m free to date whoever I want.
‘What right does he have to interfere? He’s not even anyone to me, okay?’
Natasha pressed her lips together, feeling she had no choice but to explain. “Zayn and I are just coworkers. We barely even talk. Seriously, you’re totally overthinking it.”
Jared narrowed his eyes. “Just coworkers? You had him carry your suitcase, and gave him that sweet smile!”
Natasha rolled her eyes.
‘Which eye of his saw me giving Zayn a sweet smile?’ Natasha thought, completely exasperated.
She continued to explain, “I swear I’ve barely spoken to Mr. Jackson before. Today, I only talked to him a bit more because I accidentally bumped into him at the service area.
“As for him helping with the luggage, it was purely a gesture of goodwill between colleagues. Besides, he didn’t just help me. He helped Dorothy with her luggage, too, okay?”
‘By that logic, is Zayn into Dorothy too?’ Natasha thought, rolling her eyes again.
Jared gave her a scrutinizing look. “Just that?”
Natasha retorted, “Seriously, what else do you think it could be?”
She was really sick of how paranoid he was.
He acted like he had some claim on her.
‘There’s nothing between us, Natasha thought. ‘Who does he think he is, sticking his nose in my business?’
