An Affair With The Ceo (Natasha and Jared) novel Chapter 153

Chapter 153 Letting Him Stay?

Chapter 153 Letting Him Stay?

Natasha’s heart skipped a beat.

There was no way she could let Sandra into the bedroom.

If Sandra caught Jared in there, it would be a total disaster.

“Mom, don’t!” Natasha blurted out.

She quickly tried to stop Sandra.

Sandra shot her a suspicious look. “What do you mean, ‘don’t’?”

After all, Sandra had brought Natasha up since she was little.

Just one glance at Natasha, and Sandra could tell something was off.

“My room’s a mess, seriously, you don’t wanna go in! And you know how wild my cat gets. What if it scratches you?” Natasha blurted out, frantically searching for excuses.

Sandra wasn’t convinced. “Come on, I can handle a cat, you know. And if your room’s a mess, I’ll help you clean it up while I’ m here…”

Natasha could tell Sandra was absolutely determined to go in and catch the cat, no matter what.

That instantly brought back memories from her childhood. She’d once saved a stray cat and desperately wanted to keep it

But Sandra flat-out refused, insisting Natasha needed to focus on her studies instead.

Roxanne and her dad had also made it clear that no cats were allowed at Whittier Manor.

But later, when Joelle got obsessed with some expensive pedigree cat, Roxanne didn’t even hesitate and spent a fortune on it, and the cat moved right into Whittier Manor.

They didn’t say a thing. Instead, they just praised how beautiful Joelle’s fancy pedigree cat was.

That was when Natasha realized that when one’s family status was too low, they weren’t even entitled to keep their own

pets.

Today, Natasha was only using the cat as an excuse to keep Sandra from coming in.

But

Sandra didn’t care what Natasha wanted. She was ready to interfere with Sandra’s pet all over again.

This was supposed to be Natasha’s own place, but Sandra treated it like Whittier Manor, handling Natasha’s pet however

she wanted.

“No, seriously, I said no!” Natasha snapped, her voice turning cold.

Her expression hardened as she shot Sandra a look of clear annoyance.

But Sandra just brushed off Natasha’s protests and was about to push her way in.

It was like Natasha’s words were just hot air to her, and Sandra didn’t give a damn about what she said.

“Mom!” Natasha snapped, her voice cutting through the room.

Sandra’s body trembled.

She looked back at Natasha, eyes wide in disbelief.

She never expected Natasha to ever stun her like that.

But she quickly snapped out of it.

She felt annoyed with herself for letting Natasha get to her.

Sandra glared at her. “So, as your mom, I don’t even get to step into your bedroom? What secret are you keeping from me?”

Natasha’s expression stayed cold. “You’re just imagining things, There’s really nothing.”

Sandra gave her a suspicious look. “Nothing? Then why are you stopping me from going in?”

Natasha reminded her, “It’s my place, and I’d really prefer you not to come in right now.”

Sandra instantly got the message.

“Oh, so now you’re all grown up, huh? Spreading your wings and thinking your mom can’t control you anymore?” Sandra shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Her face went from red to pale with fury.

She was furious, thinking, ‘Natasha used to be so obedient, just putting up with everything, and now she actually dared to

In the past, Natasha would’ve just apologized, all timid and submissive, or let Sandra walk right in and snoop around her

room.

But tonight, she was nothing like her old self. She wasn’t about to let Sandra have her way.

“Mom, it’s already late tonight. Let me take you home,” Natasha said politely, but there was a firmness in her voice that made it clear she wasn’t backing down.

Sandra was so angry that she was almost speechless.

She couldn’t believe her own daughter would ever stand up to her like this.

“Don’t bother! I’m never coming back here again!” Sandra spat, then marched out, seething with anger.

Natasha didn’t chase after her like she used to.

Instead, she shut the door behind her and just collapsed onto the couch, feeling totally wiped out.

Her mind was a mess, weighed down by all kinds of complicated feelings.

Jared waited until he heard the door shut, then, after a while, he stepped out of the bedroom.

He saw Natasha sitting on the couch, looking dazed and lost in thought.

He couldn’t help but walk over to her.

“Are you okay?” Jared asked quietly.

Jared caught the whole conversation between Natasha and Sandra while he was hiding out in the bedroom.

Natasha sat there, unmoving, her gaze fixed ahead.

She just said in a flat voice, “It’s late. You should head out.”

Jared had always known Natasha was the Whittier family’s illegitimate daughter.

But he hadn’t expected Natasha’s own mother to care so little for her.

He could only imagine how hard life must’ve been for her all these years with the Whittier family.

Jared sat down next to her, giving his shoulder a gentle pat. “I’m staying right here tonight. If you need someone to lean on, my shoulder’s yours.”

He knew that even though Natasha had sent her mother away, she must be heartbroken.

Natasha didn’t lean on his shoulder. She just pressed her lips together and said, “Back then, I would’ve been heartbroken. But now… all that’s left is emptiness. I don’t feel anything anymore.”

‘Guess I’ve just gotten used to being hurt like this, Natasha thought to herself

Jared’s eyes were deep and serious. “You know what they say, no hope, no disappointment. Looks like you’ve stopped expecting anything at all.”

Natasha was stunned for a moment.

‘Have I really become so disappointed, even disheartened, toward Mom?’ she wondered.

“Maybe,” Natasha murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

‘Sometimes sorrow and loss arise only because the truth remains unseen. Once seen clearly, enlightenment comes, and no further entanglement follows, Natasha thought.

After a moment of silence, Natasha finally turned to Jared. “Thanks, really. I’m fine now. You should head home and get some sleep.”

Jared locked those hazel eyes on her. “I told you I’d stay tonight. No way I’m just ditching you after that.”

Natasha saw right through him. “Are you trying to mooch off my place tonight?”

Jared definitely wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon.

Every extra minute he got to spend with her felt like a win.

Still, if he wanted to stick around, he’d need a solid excuse.

“Got anything to eat?” he suddenly asked.

“You haven’t had dinner yet?” Natasha asked, a bit surprised.

Jared replied, “I came straight here after work to wait for you. What do you think?”

Natasha was taken aback.

‘So, he really came straight here after work just to wait for me, she thought, a bit shocked. ‘How many hours has he bege. waiting?’
