Chapter 178 Already Has a New Flame?
“Why are you back so late? Which guy were you seeing tonight?”
A harsh, suspicious voice echoed in her ear. As the hallway lights flickered on, Natasha realized the man standing in front of her was Percy.
“You… What are you doing here?” she asked, her voice trembling.
She’d never told him about her new place. ‘How did he even know where I live?’ Natasha wondered, her heart racing. And he actually came all the way here?”
“Answer my question first!” Percy demanded, his voice icy and commanding.
Natasha blinked, still in shock. ‘Did Percy just catch me getting out of Jared’s luxury car?’ she wondered.
‘But if that really happened, there’s no way Percy wouldn’t have brought up Jared’s name. So he must just be guessing
“Don’t forget, we’re divorced,” Natasha shot back, her voice icy.
Their marriage was nothing but history now. Natasha owed him no explanation.
Percy seized her chin, his grip tightening deliberately. “We just got divorced, and you’re already seeing someone else?” Percy snapped, his voice laced with anger. He was too furious to notice the hint of jealousy in his own words.
Natasha let out a cold laugh. “Weren’t you already seeing someone else before we even got divorced?”
‘He actually has the nerve to ask me why I’m seeing someone so soon after the divorce?’ Natasha thought, her anger flaring. ‘Who’s he to talk? So it’s fine for him to do whatever he wants, but I’m supposed to play by the rules?’
Besides, she was divorced now. She could date whoever she wanted. ‘It’s none of his business now, Natasha thought, defiant. ‘It’s my right!’
“Who is he?” Percy demanded, his eyes blazing with anger as he glared at her. His grip tightened, making Natasha wince in pain.
“What?” Natasha repeated, confused.
Percy stared her down. “Your new flame?”
“Who says I have a new flame?” Natasha shot back, pushing his hand away. She was dead set on denying it.
After all, she and Jared were just friends with benefits. They weren’t even a real couple, so she really wasn’t seeing anyone
new.
Percy paused, stunned for a moment. Oddly enough, her answer made him feel a little relieved. “If you don’t have a new flame, so why are you getting home so late?” he demanded, his tone still sharp.
“Can’t I just be late because I was working overtime?” Natasha replied with a bit of attitude. With that, she turned around, grabbed her keys, and unlocked the door.
She was about to shut the door when a strong arm suddenly shot out to stop it. “What are you doing?” Natasha frowned and barked; she had no intention of letting him in.
“I just need to say a few words, then I’ll leave!” Percy demanded, standing stubbornly in the doorway.
Natasha still refused to let go of the door. “Now’s not a good time!” she said coldly, not giving him an inch.
“Do you really think I’m desperate to get into your place?” Percy sneered, a mocking smirk curling at his lips.
Natasha was speechless. She wanted to shoot back, ‘If you’re not interested, then get the hell out! So why are you still shoving the door, acting like you have to barge in?’
“Just say whatever you need to say right here,” Natasha snapped, clearly annoyed.
Percy felt a pang of annoyance. ‘When did I start meaning so little to her?’ he thought, bitterness welling up inside. ‘Now I’ m not even allowed in her place anymore?’
Percy’s fists tightened at his sides. Something flickered in his eyes; he was holding back.
But after a moment, he finally spoke up, “You said that handkerchief belonged to a female classmate, right? Well, I had someone dig into your old classmates, and there wasn’t a single Gideon among them.”
Natasha met his sharp gaze, her heart skipping a heat ‘So that’s what brought him here at this hour, Natasha thought, suddenly getting it. ‘He’s here because of the r

She was seriously regretting her choices now. ‘Why did I have to make up that story?’ Natasha groaned inwardly ‘Now that he couldn’t find anyone by that name, of course, he’s here to grill me about it.
‘But even if I’d lied and said it was a real classmate, Percy would still dig around, and if things didn’t add up, he’d show up at my door all the same, she realized.
The real sticking point was that there was no way Natasha could tell Percy the truth. Because the owner of that handkerchief wasn’t some mysterious classmate or anyone else, it was her.
“It’s been ages, I really can’t remember,” Natasha shrugged, sounding totally uninterested. She just made up an excuse, not even bothering to take him seriously.
“Come on, try to remember. What was your classmate’s last name?” Percy pushed, not giving up.
Natasha was starting to get a headache. She rubbed her forehead, trying to come up with a believable excuse.
“It’s been so long, I honestly can’t remember!” she said, trying to sound convincing.
Percy fixed her with a piercing stare. “Didn’t you say you already gave the handkerchief back to its owner? If that’s true, you must still be in touch with them, right?”
Natasha’s expression froze. She wanted to slap herself. ‘Why did I have to blurt out that I returned it to the owner?’ Natasha thought, cringing inwardly.
What she really meant by ‘returned to the owner’ was that the handkerchief had ended up back in her own hands. But she’d stupidly overlooked the fact that Percy had no idea the handkerchief was actually hers. He was still out there hunting for its supposed owner.
“No, absolutely not!” Natasha blurted out, her voice urgent. She quickly denied it, trying desperately to cover her tracks. “What I meant was, I’m just keeping the handkerchief with me for now. When I finally remember who she is, I’ll return it to her myself,” Natasha said quickly, trying to sound convincing.
