Percy kept knocking on the door; he just wouldn’t go away. Natasha ended up calling the building management, and had security escort him out before he finally left.

After Percy left, Natasha kept feeling a dull headache that just wouldn’t go away. Because of it, she tossed and turned all night and barely got any sleep.

The next morning, she was woken up by her alarm. Natasha massaged her head and got out of bed.

She noticed an unread message on her phone; it was a photo from Jared. The image showed a tempting breakfast spread,

a mix of savory dishes and freshly made bites. Just looking at it was enough to make Natasha’s mouth water.

Natasha sent back a question mark, her face full of confusion.

‘What’s he doing?’ Natasha wondered. ‘Why is he tempting me with these delicious food pics so early in the morning? Is he just trying to make me crave breakfast?’

Jared texted back almost instantly: [Did you eat breakfast yet?]

Natasha: [Not yet!]

Jared: [What are you craving? Just tell me, and I’ll have it sent over soon!]

Natasha finally realized what was going on, a bit dazed. ‘So that’s why he sent me those food photos this early; he wanted me to choose my breakfast?’ Natasha thought.

Natasha: [No need, I’ll make it myself!]

Jared: [Just call me “hubby,” and I’ll come over and cook for you myself.]

Natasha: [You’re such a creep, I don’t need you!]

She really didn’t care about him making breakfast for her. ‘He wants me to call him “hubby”? Yeah, right, like that’s ever gonna happen, Natasha scoffed inwardly. After all, they were just friends with benefits, nothing more.

Natasha put her phone down, got out of bed, and went to the bathroom to freshen up.

After a bit, she just whipped up a simple breakfast, nothing fancy, just enough to get by. Once she finished eating, she headed off to work.

Just as Natasha got to the office, Derek knocked on her door and walked in, holding a lunchbox.

He placed the lunchbox on Natasha’s desk. “Boss told me to give this to you!” Derek said.

Natasha opened the lunchbox with a puzzled look. To her surprise, inside were all the exact breakfast foods Jared had shown her in the photos earlier that morning. Since she hadn’t made a choice, he just went ahead and sent her a bit of everything.

“Man, that smells incredible,” Derek couldn’t help blurting out as the aroma hit him.

Natasha grinned and offered, “Want some?”

Derek shook his head like crazy. “No way, I’m good… Already had breakfast, gotta run!”

He thought, ‘Yeah, right, like I’d dare touch the breakfast the boss made just for Natasha. Unless I’m looking to get myself fired or something!’

With that, he made a beeline for the door. Just as he was about to leave the office, Derek paused, as if he suddenly remembered something.

He turned back to Natasha and said, “Oh, right, Boss had to fly overseas early this morning on urgent business! He said you can reach out to him anytime if you need anything.”

Natasha paused, stunned. ‘Seriously? Jared went abroad?’ she thought, still in disbelief. ‘So I won’t be able to get my meds for my condition anytime soon?’

“Okay!” Natasha replied.

After Derek left, Natasha zoned out for a bit, just staring at the breakfast in front of her. She’d only grabbed something simple that morning, and now her stomach was still growling.

With such a mouthwatering, generous breakfast right in front of her, she just couldn’t resist. She gave in and started eating.

After she finished eating, Natasha couldn’t help feeling a bit frustrated with herself. She and Jared were just friends with benefits, nothing more; she really should be drawing a clear line between them.

She shouldn’t be so quick to accept his thoughtful gestures. But then Natasha remembered Jared had already left for business trip.

He probably just wanted to keep their connection going before heading out. Nothing else behind it. So Natasha didn’t think much of it.

Natasha worked straight through the morning and didn’t get a chance to check her phone until her lunch break. And as soon as she unlocked it, the first thing she saw was a message from Jared.

Jared: [Did you like the breakfast?]

Natasha: [It was pretty good, but you really don’t have to send it again.]

Jared’s brows knitted together, he replied: [What, you didn’t like it?]

Natasha: [I already had breakfast this morning.]

Jared: [Don’t bother making breakfast tomorrow. I’ll have someone deliver it right to your door.]

Natasha just rolled her eyes, totally at a loss. ‘Is he seriously not getting the hint?’ she grumbled inwardly.

In her mind, their friends-with-benefits deal was supposed to be all about what happened between the sheets. Anything outside the bedroom, they should just keep things separate.

Natasha: [No thanks, I always make my own breakfast.]

She made it pretty clear she wasn’t interested. Jared wasn’t the kind of guy to miss the point; he definitely understood what she meant.

He’d just gotten off the plane and was sitting in the back of a sleek executive car, looking a little down. His handsome face was tinged with gloom.

Sending her breakfast wasn’t about anything else; there were no strings attached. He just wanted to do something nice for her, in his own way.

All his life, he’d never actually gone after a girl. He had no idea what women liked.

‘How am I even supposed to make a move?’ Jared thought, totally clueless.

She was the only one he’d ever cared enough to really go after, but Natasha was just impossible to read.

Right now, he desperately needed a strategist; someone who could give him advice. Someone who could help him actually make Natasha his. Otherwise, he and Natasha would just stay stuck as friends with benefits, never moving forward.

Right when Jared was stressing out, his phone suddenly rang.

“Jared, I heard you’re in Fleojan too?” Nicolas’s lazy voice came through the phone.

Jared blinked in surprise and asked, “You’re in Fleojan too?”

Nicolas gave a lazy grin. “Yeah, I’m just here to keep Lisa company while she shops!”

Fleojan had been the ultimate fashion hub and a shopping haven for women. No woman could resist coming here to shop.

Lisa was the celebrity girlfriend Nicolas hooked up with after his divorce.

Jared raised an eyebrow, a little skeptical. “Do women really love shopping that much?”

Nicolas replied with a knowing grin, “Honestly, no matter how pissed off my exes got, all I had to do was take them shopping and pick up the tab; they’d be all smiles again in no time!”
