Chapter 187 Kissing Her
Jared sat down by her hospital bed. “When you were unconscious, Collin answered my call, Jared explained quietly, holding her hand.
Natasha was stunned. “Collin?”
‘So the call I got right before I passed out was from Jared?’ Natasha thought to herself. ‘Collin heard the ringtone and noticed something was wrong. That was how he found me passed out and picked up the call for me.’
“Yeah,” Jared replied. Natasha’s expression was complicated. ‘So you saved me again, Natasha thought, a mix of emotions swirling inside her.
If it weren’t for Jared, Collin wouldn’t have done her this favor and helped her get out of the Whittier Manor.
Back when they were kids, Collin would always gang up with Joelle to pick on her. This time, she wouldn’t think Collin had suddenly developed feelings for her just because he helped her out this time.
The thing was, she now owed Jared another favor. She had already owed him so much. Now, her father was using Dorothy as leverage to force her to betray Jared. Seeing how Jared treated her, Natasha couldn’t bring herself to betray him.
“Does it still hurt?” Jared asked, his gaze lingering on the wound on her forehead. That was when Natasha realized she had a bandage on her forehead.
She instinctively reached up to touch it. Her fingers brushed against the soft white gauze. “Don’t touch it,” Jared said softly, gently catching her hand.
Natasha suddenly felt guilty and avoided his gaze. She quickly turned her head aside and said, “I’m so tired.”
Jared coaxed her gently, “Just sleep a while more.”
“Okay,” Natasha replied softly. She took the opportunity to close her eyes, and before long, she actually drifted off to sleep.
When she woke up again, it was already nighttime. The room was empty except for her. Natasha hadn’t eaten all day and was hungry. She was just about to press the call button to ask a nurse to bring her some food when someone pushed open the door.
Collin walked in, holding an insulated lunch box. He headed straight over to Natasha’s bed and handed her the lunch box.” Mr Rundell asked me to bring this for you. He had to head back to the company for something urgent,” Collin explained.
“Thanks,” Natasha said, nodding as she took the lunch box.
Collin helped her sit up in bed and tucked a pillow behind her back. “Guess you’re better than Joelle after all; you already managed to snag Jared,” Collin said with a teasing grin.
Natasha shot him a frosty look. “Jared and I aren’t what you’re thinking,” she said.
Collin gave her a knowing look. “Come on, drop the act. If Mr. Rundell didn’t care about you, would he have put you in such a fancy hospital room and brought in the best surgeon to stitch you up?”
Natasha pressed her lips together, still trying to defend herself. “I’m his assistant. If he treats me a little better, I’ll work harder for him. It’s just nothing more than a small favor on his part as the boss.”
Collin couldn’t help but question her. “You really think it’s just a small favor?”
Natasha nodded firmly. “That’s right,” she said.
Collin couldn’t help but feel disappointed. He had hoped Natasha would latch onto Jared and help him get something out of it. But now it looked like she and Joelle were in the same boat. Both of them had missed their chance with the wealthy families.
‘Joelle’s a lost cause. She’s already been completely cut off by the Milford family, and there was no coming back for her. But maybe there’s still a chance for Natasha and Jared,’ he thought.
“Nonetheless, he’s got to like you at least a little, right? Out of all his assistants, why does Mr. Rundell treat you so special?” Collin pressed, watching her closely.
Natasha didn’t bother denying that Jared liked her. ‘But so what? At best, we’re just friends with benefits, she thought. What they had was just a hookup; nothing she could ever talk about openly or admit in front of anyone.
“What are you trying to say exactly?” Natasha asked, staring straight at Collin.
Collin leaned in, lowering his voice with a sly grin, and suggested, “Why not strike while the iron’s hot? If Mr. Rundell’s got a thing for you, maybe you should take things to the next level with him.”
Natasha wasn’t clueless about what Collin meant. Because she knew all too well what Collin was implying, she had been

quick to shut down any talk about her and Jared previously.
But she knew Collin all too well. Once he set his mind on something, he wouldn’t stop until he achieved what he wanted. If
she shot him down right away, it would only make him more determined to push her.
He would then team up with the rest of the Whittier family and pressure her even more. She might as well use his
stubbornness to her advantage.
“That’s actually a pretty good suggestion,” Natasha said suddenly.
Collin’s face lit up with excitement. “Does that mean you finally get it? You’ve agreed to it?”
Natasha shot him a look. “Hold on, I’m not done yet.”
Collin urged her, “Just say it if you have anything.”
Natasha replied calmly, “If you want me to get closer to Jared, you’ll have to do me a favor first, right?”
Collin asked quickly, “What is it?”
Natasha leaned in and whispered in his ear. Collin’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Seriously? You want me to help you with that?”
Natasha arched her brow. “I just want a little extra security for myself in the Whittier family. After everything that happened, which you saw too. Those people could come for me any time.”
Collin paused, then gritted his teeth. “Alright, I’ll do what I can.”
After eating, Natasha just lay there with her eyes closed for a bit. Perhaps she had slept too much earlier, and now she
found herself wide awake.
The door swung open. Natasha heard steady footsteps approaching and could already guess who it was. Sure enough, Jared was soon at her bedside. She caught the familiar scent of him, which gave her an inexplicable sense of security.
