Chapter 218 Not Backing Down

Chapter 218 Not Backing Down

Natasha’s expression stiffened for a moment. “It’s not that I don’t want to…”

She just did not feel worthy.

Jared’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Alright, that settles it! I’ll be waiting for you at home on my birthday.”

Natasha wanted to refuse Jared so badly, but she just could not bring herself to say no.

After all, they did not marrage to sleep together last night, so she still owed him one.

At a large shopping mall, Natasha met up with Dorothy for a shopping trip.

Natasha wanted to pick out a birthday present for Jared.

Natasha had zero experience when it came to picking out birthday gifts for guys.

Last night, Natasha had done some research online and learned that the usual gifts for men were either a tie or a belt.

She grabbed Dorothy and headed straight for the men’s department.

Natasha was planning to pick out a belt for Jared.

As Dorothy watched from the side, she could not help but tease, “You and Percy are already broken up, and you still want to buy him a belt to tie him down again?”

Natasha quickly shook her head. “It’s not for Percy.”

Dorothy’s eyes widened in surprise. “Not for Percy? Then who is it for? When did you get yourself a mystery man? I didn’t even know about it.”

It was not that Natasha did not want to tell Dorothy about her and Jared; it was just hard to talk about.

The difference in their backgrounds made it awkward for her to even bring it up.

“Come on, spill it! Who’s this mystery guy?” Dorothy pressed, her curiosity getting the better of her.

‘No wonder Natasha never considered Mr. Jackson before. Turns out she already has someone in mind, Dorothy thought.

“He…” Natasha felt a little torn. “We’re not really together yet.”

She and Jared were just friends with benefits, so it was hard to put into words.

But Dorothy totally got the wrong idea.

“So you’re the one wooing him?” Dorothy chuckled, giving Natasha a playful pat on the shoulder. “Wow, Nat! You look so innocent, but you’re actually so bold with men!”

“I… It’s not like that…” Natasha wanted to explain, but she just could not get the words out.

‘Forget it, let her misunderstand, Natasha thought. ‘Better to let her think that than to let her know I have been sleeping with Jared.’

With Dorothy’s help, Natasha finally picked out a man’s belt.

She was ready to leave after that, but Dorothy wanted to keep shopping and pick up a few more dresses.

Since Dorothy had just helped her pick out the belt, Natasha could not bring herself to say no.

Hence, she went along with Dorothy to the women’s section.

Dorothy spotted a high-end women’s fashion boutique and dragged Natasha inside.

“Nat, this dress is totally your style! Why don’t you try it on?” Dorothy said, pointing at the dress on the mannequin.

The dress was made of silk, embellished with lace and pearls, and the craftsmanship was exquisite. One could tell it was expensive just by looking at it.

“It’s really beautiful, but I wasn’t planning to buy any dresses today…” Natasha hesitated.

“Just try it on first! Who knows, you might end up wanting it,” Dorothy said, giving Natasha a little push toward the fitting

room.

Dorothy then asked the salesgirl to take the dress off the mannequin and hand it to Natasha.

Natasha changed into the dress and stepped out of the fitting room.

“Oh my god, you look drop-dead gorgeous! Nat, you have to buy this! If you don’t, I’m buying it for you!” Dorothy gushed, totally blown away.

Chapter 218 Not Backing Down

Natasha looked into the mirror and was momentarily struck by her own reflection.

The dress wrapped perfectly around Natasha’s figure, her curves flowing effortlessly, highlighting her sultry vibe while still giving off a touch of rare innocence.

There was something almost unreal about her beauty, like a mix of charm and grace that made it impossible to look away.

Natasha was so stunning that it was hard for anyone to look away.

The salesgirl nearby kept gushing over how amazing she looked.

Natasha was ready to pay for the dress right then and there.

Just then, a familiar female voice called out from behind them. “I’ll take the dress she’s wearing.”

Natasha turned to look in the direction of the voice.

It was Joelle.

Joelle swept her hand across the store, pointing at several more dresses. “And these, these, and these… Bag them all up for me.”

Joelle picked out a dozen dresses in one go and told the salesgirl to pack them all up.

“Erm… Ms. Whittier…” The salesgirl hesitated.

The salesgirl recognized Joelle as the Whittier family’s heiress, and her expression turned uneasy.

If it were any other customer, she would have simply told them that someone else was already trying on the dress and that they would have to wait until the first customer decided not to buy it.

But the salesgirl knew Joelle’s temper well enough to understand that such a response would only earn her a verbal lashing.

Besides, she could not afford to offend Joelle.

“What’s the holdup? I told you to wrap them up. Why are you just standing there?” Joelle shot her a glare, clearly annoyed

by how slow she was.

The salesgirl could only walk up to Natasha, looking apologetic. “I’m sorry, but Ms. Whittier has her eye on the dress you’re wearing. Could you please change out of it?”

“I’m buying this dress,” Natasha said, refusing to back down.

She was already planning to pay for it.

‘Just because Joelle wants it, doesn’t mean I have to hand it over, Natasha thought.

“But…” The salesgirl looked uneasy, glancing nervously at Joelle.

The salesgirl looked at Joelle nervously, unsure how to handle the situation.

Natasha did not want to make things difficult for the salesgirl, so she turned to Joelle and said, “Sorry, Joelle, but I picked this dress out first!”

Joelle shot Natasha a furious glare. “Natasha, you’re really getting bold these days! How dare you try to take something from me!”

Ever since they were kids, Joelle always saw herself as the one true heiress of the Whittier family.

In the Whittier family, she always got first dibs on everything.

Natasha was always second in line.

The best things were always hers to choose, and whatever was left went to Natasha.

Joelle was totally used to this routine by now.

Taking Natasha’s stuff was practically a daily habit for her.
