Chapter 233 Asking for Recognition
Chapter 233 Asking for Recognition
“Shit!” Natasha was caught off guard.
She dodged just in time, but the cup hit the floor, and shards of broken porcelain still flew up, grazing her face.
“You just don’t know when to quit, do you? I try to give you a chance, and you throw it right back in my face!” Bernard snapped, his anger boiling over as he stormed off.
Natasha pressed her hand to her scratched cheek, her eyes chillingly cold.
“Nat!” Sandra called as she hurried over.
“What happened?” she asked.
“Dad threw a glass at me in a rage,” Natasha said, her voice calm.
Sandra couldn’t help but grumble, “Your dad finally makes the effort to come over, and you go and upset him again?”
Natasha stared at her mother in disbelief.
Sandra had rushed over, not out of concern for Natasha’s injury, but because she was worried Natasha had angered
Bernard.
‘I should’ve stopped hoping for anything from Mom ages ago.’
“I just told him to divorce Roxanne and marry you. How was I supposed to know he’d lose his temper like that?” Natasha protested.
Sandra was caught off guard.
Her face, always so well-kept, suddenly looked conflicted.
She never imagined Natasha would actually try to get her recognized as Bernard’s wife.
Meanwhile, her own daughter, Joelle, had barely spoken to her since she found out Sandra was her real mother.
There was no way Joelle would ever ask Bernard for something like that on Sandra’s behalf.
Natasha, though, had been raised by Sandra from childhood, and she was still a good kid.
But unfortunately, Natasha wasn’t her biological daughter.
She wasn’t Sandra’s real daughter. She was Roxanne’s flesh and blood.
Whenever Sandra remembered where Natasha truly came from, she couldn’t bring herself to love her.
“Your dad never gets angry for no reason. You must’ve said something that set him off again,” Sandra said, her voice firm, like she was sure.
Natasha felt messed up inside, frustrated, and disappointed.
It had always been this way, ever since she was little.
Every time she tried to stand up for her mom, tried to fight for her, or tried to make things right, her mom would always twist things around and somehow make it all her fault.
She was just so disappointed in Sandra.
But this wasn’t the first time Natasha had felt let down.
She’d already braced herself for it.
“I just don’t want to work for the Whittier Group, Natasha muttered
Sandra gave her a sharp look. “Your dad wants you to join the Whittier Group?”
“Yeah, but I don’t want to,” Natasha replied.
She just wanted to break away from the Whittier family for good.
She wished she could leave right now and never have anything to do with them again.
Sandra stayed silent.
She didn’t try to persuade her.
To Sandra, Natasha not joining the Whittier Groot and for and undisgrace for her own kids.
She couldn’t have asked for anything better.

So all these years, she’d deliberately kept Natasha out of the Whittier Group.

Chapter 233 Asking for Recognition
She never even lifted a finger to help her get in.
She was just worried Natasha would clash with Joelle and Collin over family interests.
Natasha left the Whittier family, swung by the hospital for a quick patch-up on her face, and then headed out.
She didn’t make it to the office until the afternoon.
When Natasha arrived at the office, her coworkers told her Jared had already left for a business trip overseas.
Natasha pulled out her phone and, sure enough, there was a message from Jared.
[Something came up, so I have to go abroad for a few days on business. Remember to miss me!]
Instead of feeling upset, Natasha actually felt relieved when she saw the message.
It was her wish that the universe put some distance between them.
Jared sent another message: [And while I’m gone, don’t go hooking up with other guys behind my back. Especially that Percy of yours. Don’t you dare see him.]
Natasha locked her big, beautiful eyes on that last message.
‘Man, someone’s really jealous,’ she thought.
After work that evening, Natasha met up with her best friend Dorothy to grab a drink.
They went to their old favorite spot, the one they used to frequent all the time.
As soon as they sat down, Dorothy’s eyes zeroed in on the cut on Natasha’s face, and she started bombarding her with questions.
When she found out it was Bernard who’d thrown the cup, Dorothy exploded, “What kind of crappy excuse for a father does that to his own daughter? If I were you, I’d have reported him for assault right then and there!” Natasha dismissively curled her lips. “This little scratch doesn’t even qualify as assault.”
Even if he assaulted her, Natasha would deal with him herself.
“So, what really happened?” Dorothy demanded.
Natasha said, exasperated, “What else could it be?”
Natasha filled Dorothy in on everything that happened with her dad that morning.
After hearing the whole story, Dorothy shook her head. “Your dad’s the type who only values you when you’re useful, and ignores you when you’re not. As his daughter, asking him to marry your mom and give you both a rightful status is totally reasonable. If he doesn’t want to, fine. But why does he have to get violent? He’s just a hopeless old fart!”
Natasha sighed. “Maybe in his eyes, asking him to divorce Roxanne and marry my mom is just me asking for too much, crossing the line.”
Maybe Bernard never even thought about marrying Sandra in the first place.
So maybe it wasn’t her who was pathetic. It was her mom.
But what Natasha really couldn’t understand was that even after everything Bernard did, Sandra always jumped to defend him, no matter what.
Even if Natasha wanted to save her mom, she was powerless to do anything.
Dorothy advised her, “You really shouldn’t get involved in this. If your mom wants something, she has to talk to your dad herself. It only matters if she says it. He won’t listen to you anyway.”
Natasha was quiet for a moment. “I know.”
After this, she gave up on trying.
She’d never bring up something like this to her dad again.
They kept drinking and chatting about whatever came to mind.
