Chapter 238 The Physical Stuff

Chapter 238 The Physical Stuff

But Jared felt like Natasha kept things way too separate between them.

The only time a woman ever kept things so distant from a guy was when she never cared about him at all.

‘So Natasha really just saw him as someone to hook up with. A friend with benefits, nothing more.’

Jared frowned. “I just bought it while I was overseas on business. It didn’t mean anything special. If you really don’t want it. toss it.”

“Toss it?” Natasha looked at him like he was crazy.

Did he just tell me to toss a 150,000-dollar bag like it’s nothing?’ she thought.

“Once I give something away, I never take it back,” Jared said, not backing down.

Natasha blinked, then nodded. “Alright, got it.”

She picked up the bag and headed back to his room.

She put the bag back in the gift box, arranging it just like it was before.

If anyone were going to toss it, it’d have to be him.

She couldn’t bring herself to do it.

She hadn’t planned on spending the night at his place anyway.

But because of that bag, things got tense between her and Jared all over again.

Natasha left that night and went back to her own place at Oceanview International.

Over the next few days, Natasha and Jared gave each other the cold shoulder.

In front of others, they kept up the boss-and-assistant act, but outside of work, they barely even acknowledged each other.

Jared didn’t make any moves on her anymore.

Perhaps he just thought she wasn’t any fun to play with, so why bother?

Besides, Natasha wanted to keep her distance from him in the first place.

So the fact that he wasn’t reaching out suited her just fine.

She wasn’t about to make the first move either.

But that only made Jared even more annoyed.

He kept sulking with a sour face for days.

The whole company was so tense that almost everyone on the working floor felt anxious.

The senior staff who had access to Jared walked on eggshells, afraid to say anything that might set him off.

Everyone was terrified of saying the wrong thing and upsetting him.

The employees in the executive office were even more cautious, barely daring to speak in his presence.

That evening, Derek knocked and came in to deliver a schedule.

Jared suddenly asked, “Have you ever given a woman a bag?”

“Yes,” Derek replied honestly. “My ex-girlfriend loved bags. I gave her one for every anniversary.”

Jared asked, “Was she happy?”

Derek replied, “Absolutely! Every time I gave her a bag, she’d kiss me and get all sweet with me.”

Jared felt a twinge of envy.

In his thought, that was how most women ideally reacted when they got a designer bag.

“She never said no?” Jared probed.

Derek replied immediately, “She was crazy about them. She’d never even think of turning one down.”

Jared’s face grew even more tense.

Derek instantly realized he’d put his foot in his.

Successfully unlocked!

ay to fix it.

He cautiously asked, “Boss, are you asking me this because of Natasha?”

Jared shot him a look and let out a heavy sigh, not denying it.

Derek knew he’d hit the mark.

He chose his words carefully. “From what I’ve seen, Natasha’s got a lot of backbone and is really independent. Unless you’ re her boyfriend or husband, she wouldn’t accept gifts lightly from anyone.”

Jared’s mood soured even more after hearing that.

‘So, just because I’m not her boyfriend or husband, I don’t even have the right to give her a gift?’ he thought, feeling a bit frustrated.

Derek noticed that not only did Jared’s expression fail to improve, but it actually got worse.

He grew anxious. “But honestly, there’s an upside to being with someone like Natasha. If you ever break up, she won’t cling or cause any drama.”

Jared shot him a sharp look. “When did I ever say I wanted to break up with her?”

What was really eating at him was that he couldn’t make things official and become her man.

It wasn’t about breaking up with Natasha.

How could he possibly be happy that Natasha was so chill and never clung to him?

He just hated that she couldn’t act like other women, play a little hard to get, or at least cling to him and refuse to let go.

At least then he’d have a shot.

But he was completely lost. He had no clue how to make a move.

Derek stared at him, totally dumbfounded. “Boss, are you seriously hoping to go from side guy to the main man?”

Jared’s face was cold.

If looks could kill, Derek would’ve been dead a million times over.

The whole office felt that a storm was brewing, and everyone was tense and on edge.

Derek only just realized what was going on, way too late.

Hence, he made up some excuse and bolted out of there.

*****

Natasha and Dorothy had originally planned to have dinner together that night.

But Dorothy’s project team suddenly had a last-minute dinner, so she dragged Natasha along.

Ever since Natasha moved to the executive office, it had been ages since she’d hung out with her old project team.

It was a rare chance to get together.

Everyone was stuffing their faces and having a blast, the whole place buzzing with laughter and chatter.

After dinner, everyone headed over to a nearby karaoke bar to keep the party going.

But Natasha didn’t want to go.

Seeing her, Dorothy wrapped her arm around Natasha’s shoulders and reminded her, “If you’re the only one who doesn’t show up, your old coworkers will think you look down on them.”

After all, Natasha was the only one in their department who’d gotten a promotion.

Nobody said it, but deep down, they were all jealous.

Natasha honestly didn’t care either way. But she was worried that if she bailed, the others might freeze Dorothy out and make things rough for her bestie in the department.

In the end, she nodded and agreed to go.

Once they got to the karaoke room, everyone jumped right into singing.

“Mr. Jackson, how about singing a song for us?” someone suggested.

Everyone cheered him on, clapping enthusiastically.

After all, Zayn was their current department manager.

It was only right to let him have the spotlight.

Zayn sang a solo first, and everyone applauded enthusiastically.

Then a female colleague named Ametta Robin, who clearly had a crush on Zayn, picked the duet “Romeo and Juliet.”
