She was totally caught off guard.

She never expected Zayn to suddenly confess his feelings to her.

“I just got out of a relationship, and I’m really not ready to start something new right away,” she said softly.

She apologized sincerely.

After they finished eating, Zayn drove Natasha home.

After Natasha got out of the car, Zayn kept driving for a bit.

As he passed through a quiet stretch of road, a biker gang suddenly came out of nowhere.

They were riding motorcycles, each one wielding a machete.

They forced Zayn to pull over, smashed his car window, and then attacked him with their machetes through the broken glass.

Natasha learned about Zayn’s accident while she was having dinner with Dorothy.

As soon as Dorothy heard Natasha had quit, she headed straight to Natasha’s place after work.

“Natasha, did I hear that right? You actually quit?” Dorothy blurted out, her eyes wide with disbelief.

Natasha nodded. “Yeah, I really did quit.”

Dorothy was stunned. “Why? Things were fine, weren’t they? Why would you quit out of the blue?”

Natasha arched her brow. “I ended things with Jared. Staying at the company wasn’t an option anymore.”

Dorothy blinked, almost thinking she’d misheard.

“Wait, you and Mr. Rundell are really done?” she blurted out, disbelief written all over her face.

Natasha nodded. “Yeah.”

Dorothy couldn’t help but ask, “So, did he give you anything for breaking up?”

Natasha looked puzzled. “Compensation? For what?”

Dorothy shrugged. “Like, money, a house, a car, you know, the usual breakup perks.”

Natasha shook her head. “Nope, nothing like that.”

Dorothy’s eyes went wide. “Seriously? Not a single thing?”

Natasha nodded. “Nope, nothing at all.”

Dorothy was speechless. “Mr. Rundell’s such a big boss, and he didn’t even give you a dime when you broke up? That’s

cold.”

Dorothy’s mouth twitched. “Seriously, Natasha? You were friends with benefits with a big boss like Mr. Rundell, and you didn’t get anything out of it?”

Natasha shrugged, not seeing what the big deal was.

“We agreed from the start, it was about hooking up and getting what we wanted from each other. Nothing but the physical stuff,” she said.

“So what?” Dorothy still couldn’t get it. “Just because you’re friends with benefits doesn’t mean you can’t talk about money. Aren’t you giving it up for nothing?”

Natasha shot back, “It’s not like I’m giving it up for nothing. We both got what we wanted from each other.”

Dorothy was speechless.

“Even if it’s mutual, you’re still the one losing out. You’re a woman, and he’s a man,” Dorothy pointed out, trying to be helpful.

Natasha didn’t say anything.

Then, Dorothy’s phone rang.

She answered it, and her face suddenly changed. She looked shocked.

“What happened?” Natasha asked.

Natasha could see from Dorothy’s expression that something was seriously wrong.

Dorothy said, “Something happened to Mr. Jackson.”

Natasha looked puzzled. “What happened?”

He was totally fine when he dropped her off earlier today.

Dorothy said, “He got stabbed.”

Natasha was speechless.

When Natasha and Dorothy rushed to the hospital, Zayn was still in the ER.

His family was gathered at the entrance, crying.

The nurses kept coming out, each time announcing that Zayn was in critical condition.

Natasha’s heart clenched tight.

She prayed desperately that nothing would happen to Zayn.

Then, someone came up to Zayn and said, “Sir, based on our initial investigation, it looks like your son’s attack is somehow tied to Percy Grosso, the new heir of the Grosso family.”

Zayn’s father’s eyes narrowed. “Percy?”

“Yes!”

Natasha felt a jolt of shock run through her.

She never would have thought Zayn getting slashed had anything to do with Percy.

Natasha wondered, ‘But why would Percy have Zayn attacked out of nowhere?

‘Could this somehow be about me?’

While she was still puzzling over it, the doors to the ER suddenly swung open.

The doctor stepped out.

Natasha, Dorothy, and Zayn’s family rushed over.

“Doctor, how is he?” they all asked at once.

“Fortunately, he got here in time. We did everything we could, and he barely made it. He’s alive,” the doctor said.

Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.

Zayn was wheeled off to the ICU.

But no matter what she tried, she couldn’t get in touch with him.
