Natasha turned to look at him. “What?”

Nicolas gave her a knowing look. “You suddenly quit, and you two didn’t exchange a single word in the private room

“Zero interaction. Did you two have a falling out or something?”

Natasha forced a smile. “It’s not really a big deal.”

Nicolas couldn’t help but question, “That’s not a fight?”

Natasha gave a bitter smile, not even knowing where to begin.

She felt that what happened between her and Jared wasn’t really a conflict. It was more like they were returning to their original roles.

From now on, zero interaction would be their new normal.

Of course, Nicolas was no fool.

She didn’t think their relationship was at that level.

She hesitated, unsure how to refuse him.

Nicolas seemed to see right through her and smiled reassuringly.

“I’m messing with you. No need to feel pressured. It’s already late, and I need to go meet my new girlfriend,” he said.

Even though he felt a bit disappointed inside, he pushed down the feeling and casually made up an excuse.

Natasha breathed a secret sigh of relief.

Luckily, Nicolas wasn’t offended.

She waved him off. “Goodnight. Take care driving home.”

“Thanks for looking out for me.” Nicolas flashed a smile.

He walked from the passenger door around to the back of the car, heading for the trunk.

He popped it open and pulled out more than ten shopping bags.

“These are for you,” he said.

He offered the bags to Natasha.

Natasha blinked in genuine surprise.

“Weren’t these for your new girlfriend?” she asked.

Nicolas let out a dramatic sigh. “Just found out she’s hooking up with my buddy. I’m about to go break up with her.” Natasha’s mouth twitched.

She thought, ‘Seriously? His girlfriend moves on that fast?

Even if he couldn’t give them to his new girlfriend, there was no way she could take them.

It was not like she could accept gifts from her ex-brother-in-law out of nowhere.

Nicolas said, “No more buts. You already tried these clothes on, and they fit you like a glove.

“Plus, I’ve already paid for them. If you don’t take them, there’s no one else I can give them to, I’d have to toss them.” Nicolas tried to persuade her, sounding helpless.

Hearing that, Natasha felt too awkward to turn him down now.

“Alright, thanks, ex-brother-in-law,” she said.

She had no choice but to thank him.

She deliberately called him “brother-in-law,” to make it clear she was only taking the gifts because of that old family tie. Nicolas’s brow twitched ever so slightly.

“I’m not your brother-in-law anymore. Your sister and I are divorced. Call me Nicolas,” he said, half teasing.

Natasha shook her head. “No way.”

‘We’re not really that close, are we?’ she wondered.

Nicolas smiled. “Why not? If I say it’s fine, then it’s fine.”

Natasha tried to compose herself.

She gave him a smile. “Alright, Nicolas.”

Nicolas got back behind the wheel, backed out, and drove off the way he came.

Natasha stood there, watching him leave.

Only when his car disappeared from sight did she finally turn and head into the building.

Natasha took the elevator up and unlocked her door with her key.

As she was about to step inside, a large hand braced itself against the doorframe.

With a sudden motion, she was caught off guard and stumbled back a few steps.

When she looked up, she saw a tall figure blocking her way.

His presence was downright intimidating.

“Jared?” Natasha called hesitantly into the darkness.

She was utterly shocked. She didn’t expect to see him.

She wondered, ‘Wasn’t he still in the private room? I thought he didn’t leave with us.

‘What is he doing at my door?’

Natasha’s mind went completely blank for a split second.

The next moment, Jared crushed her into his embrace, holding her tight against his chest.

His signature cologne and raw masculinity hit her full force, so familiar it made her dizzy. Natasha’s heart was pounding, and she tried to pull away.

But Jared pinned her in his arms, leaving her no room to escape.

“What are you doing?” Natasha snapped, her tone full of annoyance.

She looked up, shooting a glare at his tense, sharp jawline.

Jared leaned down, meeting her gaze head-on.

“What were you doing with Nicolas?” he demanded, his voice low and intense.

Natasha answered coolly, “We bumped into each other at the café, so what?”

Jared kept questioning her, “So you two went to the mall together? Had dinner too?”

Natasha could tell something was off in his tone.

He sounded jealous, like he still had some claim on her.

But they’d already broken up. It was over.
