Chapter 269 Sabotaging Her Job Search
Collin looked at her disapprovingly. “Then there’s even less reason to break up.
“There are countless women out there who would kill for a chance with Jared, and you’re the one who actually broke up with him.”
Natasha pursed her lips. “What else could I do? I can’t keep things so ambiguous between us forever, can I?”
Collin shrugged. “So what if things stay ambiguous? He’s Jared, after all.”
Natasha was speechless.
She was at a loss for words.
Collin was basically telling her to chase after Jared without a shred of dignity.
That was something she couldn’t do.
“Are you even my real brother?” she asked, genuinely suspicious.
Collin tried to reason with her. “I’m only saying this because I’m your brother. You’re single now, and you finally scored a guy like Jared. Shouldn’t you be doing everything you can to keep him?”
Natasha shot back, “So what if I broke up with him? Does that mean I’m doomed to be unwanted, and my only option is to cling to some rich guy?”
She thought he was being unfair.
‘Is a woman really supposed to be left with no options because she lost a relationship everyone thought was perfect?’ she wondered.
Collin sighed. “I know you’ve got backbone and a lot of pride, but you need to face reality.
“If word gets out about you and Percy, and you don’t have anyone else to rely on, you’ll be taken advantage of.
“Do you really want Mom and Dad to marry you off to that old man, Nelson?”
Of course Natasha didn’t want to marry that old guy.
She knew Collin was looking out for her.
But knowing it was one thing, actually doing it was another.
Marrying a guy who was almost sixty was impossible for her.
“I don’t want to, and there’s no way I’m marrying him.” Natasha said firmly.
‘If push comes to shove, I’ll walk away,’ she thought to herself.
She’d already been planning to leave for a long time.
Collin said, “You really think Dad won’t try to pressure you? You know how he operates.”
Natasha replied, “Of course I do, but no matter what he tries, I’m not backing down.”
Collin warned, “What if he tries to use your friends against you again? Are you planning to use the same move as before?”
Natasha stared at him, lost for words.
Last time, she’d had Collin help her dig up evidence of their father’s affair to use as leverage against him.
“Dad’s already broken things off with that woman. You can’t use that against him anymore,” Collin said.
Natasha’s eyes flashed with determination. “There has to be another way.”
There was absolutely no way she would ever marry Nelson.
Collin sighed, “Honestly, what other option do you have besides Jared?
“I really think you should consider getting back together with him, or maybe even make your relationship more serious.”
Natasha instinctively frowned.
She didn’t want to be friends with benefits with Jared anymore, and she definitely didn’t want anything more serious with him.
The last time she went to see him, she’d seen him together with that woman from the blind date.
She wanted nothing more to do with Jared, ever again.

Chapter 269 Sabotaging Her Job Search
Back home, Natasha tossed and turned all night, unable to get any sleep.
The next morning, she woke up with big, dark circles under her eyes.
Natasha tried to shake off the exhaustion and started sending out resumes again.
She’d made up her mind, time to find a new job.
She was ready to start over from scratch.
A few days passed with nothing to show for it.
Her applications disappeared without a trace, no one replied.
A week later, she finally got a call from HR at a company for an interview.
“Ms. Whittier, you look great and your education is solid, but sadly, your major isn’t what we need…”
And soon, all the other companies she’d interviewed with started replying one after another.
Every single response was a rejection.
Natasha found it strange.
With her education, experience, and looks, there was no way she should be struggling to land a decent job.
She called back one of the HR managers and finally got the answer.
She’d offended someone so powerful that no company dared to go against him.
That big shot had made it clear that no one was allowed to hire her.
The moment Natasha heard that, Jared was the obvious culprit.
‘Is he seriously trying to make me go back to his company?’ she wondered.
She never thought he could be so ridiculously petty.
‘Unbelievable. He’s actually pulling this kind of stunt to force me,’ she thought, her anger flaring up.
Natasha was instantly furious.
That night, when Dorothy came over for dinner, Natasha couldn’t help but vent to her about it.
“Wait, what? Jared actually called up all the companies you interviewed with and told them not to hire you?” Dorothy blurted out, her eyes wide in disbelief.
Dorothy was totally floored.
“That doesn’t sound like something Mr. Rundell would do,” Dorothy said.
“Yeah,” Natasha nodded, her tone firm.
Dorothy looked puzzled. “That’s really strange. Why would he do that?”
Natasha thought aloud, “Most likely, he wants me to go back to him.”
Dorothy gave her a sly look. “You don’t think he still wants to keep that friends with benefits thing going, do you?”
Natasha rolled her eyes. “What does that have to do with anything? I mean, I’m talking about him wanting me back at work.”
Dorothy scoffed, “Come on, you’re not some rare talent. Does he really need you as his assistant that much?”
Natasha’s expression froze.
She couldn’t argue with Dorothy, her friend made a good point.
“Guess I’ll ask him myself tomorrow,” Natasha said.

At the CEO’s office of Rundell Group.
It was already dark outside.
Jared was working late again, burning the midnight oil.
He leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples.
“Mr. Rundell, your coffee,” the new secretary said as she knocked and walked in.
She bent over on purpose, making sure to show off a lot of cleavage right in front of him.
Jared caught her shameless flirting out of the corner of his eye.
He didn’t even bother to take the coffee she offered.

Instead, he asked, “What’s your name?”
The secretary was practically buzzing with excitement, thinking she was about to get her big break.
“My name is Tara Woodward,” she said, her voice full of hope.
