Chapter 278 She’s Messing Around

Chapter 278 She’s Messing Around

At the party hall of a five-star hotel.

Natasha walked in arm-in-arm with Nicolas, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.

After all, they used to be brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Ever since Nicolas married Joelle, he almost never brought her to events like this.

But tonight, he actually brought his sister-in-law, Natasha, which naturally made people curious and eager to gossip.

Natasha unconsciously stopped in her tracks.

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught people staring at them with all kinds of expressions.

“It’s okay. I’m here for you.”

Seeing her hesitation, Nicolas lowered his voice and reassured her.

Natasha forced a smile. “You didn’t tell me there’d be this many people tonight.”

He’d said it was a social event.

She thought it was a casual dinner with a bunch of people.

She never expected it to be a full-blown party.

Everyone knew about their past as brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Now that Nicolas was divorced from her sister and showing up at events with her, people were bound to talk.

She’d probably be all over the gossip columns tomorrow.

Nicolas said quietly, “They’re some business partners. Come on, let’s go mingle a bit.”

Natasha stuck close to him, meeting each of Milford Group’s partners as they made their rounds.

As they were chatting, a sudden commotion came from the entrance of the party hall.

Natasha turned to look.

She saw Percy walking in, hand-in-hand with his new girlfriend.

Tonight, Percy was dressed in a dark suit, his handsome face set in deep shadows, those jet-black eyes glinting with a chilling, almost sinister vibe.

He radiated an aura of darkness and melancholy.

His date was rocking a white princess dress and blunt bangs, giving off a vibe that was both innocent and a little mischievous.

The two of them looked like they were made for each other.

Natasha hadn’t expected to spot those two at the party tonight.

Seeing them arrive together, she was momentarily stunned.

“Is that your ex? Want to go over and say hi?”

Nicolas, standing beside her, clearly noticed them too and raised an eyebrow, teasing.

Natasha stood there, unmoving.

She thought, ‘Say hi?

‘There’s really no need.

‘We don’t have to be so fake about it.

‘We’re over, so let’s live our own lives.’

“No, that’s not necessary,” Natasha said.

Natasha looked away, speaking with a calm indifference.

But in the next moment, Percy walked over, hand in hand with Joan.

The moment he entered, Percy noticed Natasha.

Despite the crowd, she was the only one he noticed.

His shadowy, intense gaze was fixed on her.

He walked toward her, step by step.

He stopped right in front of her.

He met Nicolas’s gaze, both men tall and imposing.

The air between them crackled with tension, both men exuding a commanding presence.

Percy curled his lips into a faint smile and reached out his hand. “Mr. Milford, I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Nicolas shook his hand with a cool, polite nod. “Hello.”

The moment their hands parted, Percy’s gaze locked onto Natasha, his eyes intense and unwavering.

Natasha’s heart skipped a beat,

She felt the pressure mounting.

‘What’s with that look, Percy?’ Natasha thought.

His new girlfriend was standing right next to him.

‘Can’t he be a bit more low-key?’ she thought.

“I’m going to the restroom,” Natasha said,.

She made up an excuse and ducked out.

She hurried off to the restroom, barely looking back.

She ran the tap and splashed cold water on her face.

After a bit, she walked out.

As Natasha walked past the window in the hallway, she spotted Percy standing there, a wine glass in his hand.

His handsome face looked especially deep and mysterious, almost impossible to read.

She couldn’t figure out what he was feeling at that moment.

Noticing he had no intention of saying hello, Natasha acted like she hadn’t seen him.

She planned to walk right past him without acknowledging his presence.

“Do you resent me?” Percy’s voice came quietly from beside her.

Natasha stopped and turned to look at him.

His dark eyes were intense, locked onto her, impossible to read.

He stared at her and asked again, “I broke up with you, and now I’m with Joan. Do you resent me?”

Natasha’s eyes grew even deeper. “We’re already over, so there’s nothing to blame.”

If she ever held it against him, that feeling had faded long ago.

If she still cared, her nervous disorder wouldn’t have disappeared for good.

Honestly, she’d expected him to find someone new ages ago.

Percy let out a mocking laugh. “You don’t even have the right to blame me. You were already hooking up with Nicolas behind my back…”

Natasha’s face darkened instantly.

She snapped, her voice laced with annoyance, “What did you say?”

Percy’s eyes darkened even more. “Still playing innocent with me? When did you and Nicolas start messing around? Was it while we were still living together?”

Natasha felt a vein jump at her forehead.

She couldn’t believe Percy would accuse her of something so low.

“Watch your mouth. Nicolas has always been my brother-in-law.

She couldn’t help but defend herself.

Percy wasn’t convinced. “Brother-in-law? What kind of brother-in-law goes out of his way to help his ex-sister-in-law land a job after divorcing her sister?”

Natasha rolled her eyes, totally speechless.

“What’s so strange about that? Nicolas and I are friends, not family. Besides, getting me a job at Milford Group is a small favor for him, it’s no trouble at all,’ she replied.

She never felt Nicolas treated her special.

Chapter 278 She’s Messing Around

Percy was talking nonsense.

He could go out and get himself a new girlfriend, but when it came to Natasha, he acted like she was hooking up with every guy she talked to.

He assumed she was messing around with every guy she met.

And in his mind, she was always making him look like a fool.

It was classio double standards.

Natasha balled her hands into fists.

She gave up trying to explain herself.

No matter what she said, he’d call it making excuses.
