An Affair With The Ceo (Natasha and Jared) novel Chapter 291

Chapter 291 Her Ex Wasn’t Wrong

Chapter 291 Her Ex Wasn’t Wrong

“Go!” Jared barked.

He stood there, his aura powerful, chin lifted in a proud, almost arrogant way.

He only spoke a single word.

But the force behind it was undeniable.

Percy finally moved out of the way.

Natasha hurried past him and went straight to Jared’s side.

She felt instantly safer standing next to Jared.

Natasha couldn’t make sense of her own feelings.

Technically, Jared had only ever been her friend with benefits, while Percy was her husband.

Yet, without even thinking about it, her gut told her Jared was way more dependable than Percy.

Natasha and Jared hurried off together.

She didn’t even look back at Percy.

Percy’s eyes burned with a dark, smoldering rage.

His handsome face suddenly twisted into something cold and menacing.

Percy seethed inwardly, ‘Natasha actually dared to cheat on me?

‘I’ll make her pay for this!’

“What are you doing here?”

Natasha blurted it out, her voice a little shaky.

“If I hadn’t stepped in, you wouldn’t have been able to get out,” Jared said, his gaze lingering on her with a hint of meaning.

If he hadn’t shown up, Percy wouldn’t have let her walk away so easily.

Natasha didn’t argue.

She knew Percy only let go because Jared was there, and he didn’t dare mess with him.

But if Percy hadn’t happened to catch her hanging out with Jared today, he wouldn’t have freaked out and cornered her in the restroom.

So Jared was the one who kicked off this whole mess.

They weren’t even a thing anymore, but he kept making it look like they still were.

It made sense that people got the wrong idea.

And now Percy had totally bought into it.

Even if she tried to explain, it wouldn’t clear things up.

“You’re the reason he misunderstood.” Natasha shot Jared a glare.

Jared’s eyes were deep and unreadable. “Wait, how is that on me?”

Natasha shot back, “If you hadn’t made such a show of grabbing my hand when we walked in, would he really think we were hooking up?”

Jared smirked, teasing, “Come on, are you saying we never hooked up?”

Natasha was momentarily stunned.

Truth was, they really did have something between them.

But that was history now.

And at this point, there was no way to explain it away.

“Whatever, let him believe whatever he wants,” Natasha said.

She didn’t care to explain any further.

If Percy wanted to keep believing the wrong thing, that was his problem.

He was nothing to her now.

She didn’t need to tiptoe around his feelings anymore.

Jared couldn’t help but feel pretty damn pleased after hearing that.

A satisfied grin spread across his lips.

His driver pulled up in the luxury car.

Jared pulled Natasha close and slid into the car with her.

*****

Natasha had finished work when her phone buzzed. It was a call from Whittier Manor.

They were asking her to come over.

She knew that whenever she got a call from Whittier Manor, it always meant trouble.

This time was probably no exception.

She had zero interest in going.

To her surprise, it was Bernard, Bernard, who personally called her. He informed her that this time it was about drafting the family will.

If she didn’t want to miss out on the inheritance, she’d better play nice and go back.

Natasha hadn’t expected Bernard to suddenly decide to draft a will.

She still carried the Whittier name, after all.

If she didn’t get a single dollar, she felt that she would be both sad and pitiful.

Natasha wasn’t some money-hungry person, but she was still part of the Whittier family, her cut of the inheritance was rightfully hers.

She would not walk away from it.

She could give it all away to charity.

At least she wouldn’t let someone else walk off with it for nothing.

Natasha changed into something more presentable and headed out.

She drove herself to Whittier Manor.

Bernard, Roxanne, Sandra, Joelle, and Collin were all already there.

She was the last one to show up.

Joelle couldn’t resist snarking as soon as she saw Natasha. “Wow, I really thought you were gonna skip out on the inheritance and act all high and mighty.

“Guess you were faking it, huh?”

If Natasha had stayed away, that’d mean more money for Joelle.

Natasha could see right through Joelle’s thoughts.

She shot Joelle a cool look. “Come on, you’re not any more high and mighty than I am. You even got here before me.”

“You!” Joelle’s face went through a whole range of colors, and she shot Natasha a look full of spite.

Roxanne jumped in right away, “Natasha, is that how you talk to your sister?”

Bernard’s expression darkened. “You’re getting ruder by the day.”

Sandra didn’t take Natasha’s side at all. Instead, she said, “Hurry up and apologize to your sister.”

Natasha could hardly believe what she was hearing.

‘Wait, why am I the one who has to apologize to Joelle?’ she thought.

Joelle was the one who started with the snark, and Natasha fired back.

And now Bernard, Roxanne, and Sandra were all siding with Joelle, ganging up on her like she was the bad guy. Natasha was honestly speechless.

To them, she mattered even less than she thought.

Joelle was way more important to them than Natasha ever realized.

They basically agreed for Joelle to bully her.

But if Natasha ever pushed back, they’d all gang up on her.

They wanted her to know her place and accept it.

Forced to play second fiddle to Joelle, always getting pushed around by her.

“If anyone should be apologizing, it’s Joelle. She was rude to me first,” Natasha shot back, standing her ground.

Roxanne was practically fuming. “You really think you can compare yourself to Joelle? Do you even know your place compared to hers?”

Natasha lifted her chin, refusing to back down. “As far as I’m concerned, we’re both Dad’s daughters.”

She and Joelle were half-sisters.

She thought, ‘If one of us is ‘low, how high and mighty can the other really be?’

It was because Bernard, Roxanne, and Sandra never liked her.

That was why they always looked down on her.

But that didn’t mean she was actually any less than Joelle.

Roxanne shot Natasha a piercing, icy glare.
