Natasha returned home, her thoughts tangled and restless.

She never imagined Jared had secretly enlisted Collin’s help inside the Whittier family, all for her sake.

Natasha wondered, ‘Why would he do that?

‘Why did he never tell me?

‘Walcott Inc. is no pushover.

Jared agreed to work with Walcott Inc. because of Collin. It was definitely not as simple as that.

Natasha never expected she owed Jared such a huge favor, and she hadn’t even known it.

‘If I hadn’t gone back to Whittier Manor today to set things right, how much longer would they have kept this from me? she wondered.

When Natasha arrived at the office the next day, she headed straight to find Jared.

But he wasn’t in the CEO’s office.

“Ms. Whittier, are you looking for Mr. Rundell?” Derek, Jared’s assistant, asked, noticing her disappointed expression as she

walked out.

He looked genuinely surprised to see Natasha so downcast.

Natasha nodded. “Where is Mr. Rundell right now?”

Ever since she was drugged last time, she started avoiding meeting Jared.

But after Collin’s words yesterday, she found herself suddenly desperate to see him.

Natasha’s emotions were a tangled mess.

Derek replied, “Mr. Rundell didn’t come in today. He headed straight to the site.”

“Site? Which one?” Natasha asked, her surprise obvious.

She couldn’t recall the company launching any new projects recently.

Derek explained, “It’s a major investment Rundell Group just locked in. The project just kicked off, so Mr. Rundell went over to check things out in person.”

Natasha stared, surprised. “Rundell Group?”

Derek froze, realizing he’d just spilled something he shouldn’t have.

“Mr. Rundell’s actually the heir to Rundell Group. He’ll end up back there sooner or later,” Derek said, trying to cover his tracks.

That was all he dared to reveal.

Before Natasha could press him further, Derek quickly found an excuse and slipped away.

Natasha returned to her office, still feeling surprised by what she’d just heard.

She thought, ‘Did Derek mean that Jared won’t be staying at this company much longer, and he’s about to take over Rundell Group?

‘He is managing several companies at once, but Rundell Group will clearly be his main focus.

‘Will I still see him around as often?’

She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.

Natasha thought, ‘Isn’t it better if I don’t have to see him?

‘Then I won’t have to deal with all that awkwardness.

‘Could it be that I actually want to see him?’

After lunch, Natasha unexpectedly got a call from Derek.

“Ms. Whittier, you need to come to the hospital right now. Mr. Rundell’s been injured. He needs you to be there for him,” Derek said, sounding urgent.

Natasha gripped her phone, worry flooding her voice. “What? Is it bad?”

Derek said, “It’s not too serious. He injured his arm and shoulder. But we need to keep this under wraps to avoid any unnecessary speculation.

“Since you’re Mr. Rundell’s assistant, could you come and help take care of him?”

Natasha replied, “Alright, I understand.”

She hung up and headed straight to the hospital Derek told her about.

At the VIP ward, Natasha knocked on the door.

Derek opened the door for her.

“Mr. Rundell, Ms. Whittier’s here!” Derek called out into the room.

He turned to Natasha and spoke in a low voice, “You can go in, but just be careful. Mr. Rundell’s not in the best mood right

now.

“The doctor just brought him some meds, but he refused to take them. I tried everything, but he wouldn’t listen. Maybe you can give it a try? I’m leaving it to you.”

Natasha thought, ‘Even Derek, who’s always with Jared, couldn’t get him to budge. What makes him think I could do any better?

But in front of Derek, she nodded. “Okay, I’ll give it a shot.

Derek closed the door behind them, leaving the two of them alone.

Natasha lingered at the doorway, unable to make herself step inside.

Memories of that night, when she’d been drugged and tried to pay Jared for sex, rushed back, replaying in her mind.

A sudden blush instantly colored her cheeks.

Without even realizing it, she felt her nerves tightening, her heart racing.

She forced herself to take deep breaths, desperately trying to calm down.

She took a deep breath and headed for Jared’s bed.

But the instant she saw him, she stopped in her tracks, turning away without thinking.

If it weren’t for work, she really didn’t want to see him at all.

That night, when she’d been drugged and begged him to be her antidote, was the most embarrassing memory she wished she could wipe from her life.

But she was already here.

Backing out now would just be embarrassing.

Besides, she’d actually planned to come see him today anyway, to thank him in person for helping Collin.

Gritting her teeth, Natasha turned back around and looked at Jared, who was lying in bed.

He was propped up in bed, reading a document.

A pair of thin gold-rimmed glasses rested on his sharp nose.

His usually slicked-back black hair was a bit messy.

He gave off that vibe of being totally out of everyone’s league.

Natasha stood frozen, her eyes fixed on the thick white bandages tightly wrapped around Jared’s head and arm.

Crimson stains were already bleeding through the gauze, making the injuries look even more alarming.

Seeing that, Natasha felt her heart clench painfully.

Because of his injuries to his arm and shoulder, it was just too much trouble for him to put on a hospital gown. So right now, Jared was lying in bed completely shirtless, with nothing but a blanket casually thrown over him.

Natasha was caught in a dilemma. She wanted to walk over, but her feet just wouldn’t move, and turning around felt even more awkward.

So she just stood there, stiff as a board, totally at a loss.

She found Jared both shocking and too sexy when she saw him lying there, shirtless and bandaged. Natasha felt her heart race with embarrassment and anxiety.

Her eyes flickered all over the place, not daring to linger anywhere for long.

‘God, is this some kind of test?’ she thought, her nerves stretched to the limit.

If this kept up, she was seriously about to lose it.

Natasha closed her eyes and turned to leave.

But behind her, Jared’s voice suddenly sounded.

“Why are you here?” he asked.

Jared, still lying in bed, lazily lifted his eyelids.
