Chapter 67 Saw Him in the Shower

Chapter 67 Saw Him in the Shower

Natasha frowned. “The real problem is that Frank, our key witness, is now changing his story at the police station. He’s questioning the authenticity of the surveillance footage and even taking all the blame himself.

“With the Whittier family putting pressure on the case, there’s no way it’s going to implicate Roxanne or Joelle.”

Dorothy couldn’t help but get angry. “Doesn’t your dad want to get to the bottom of this? You’re his daughter, for crying out loud!

“You were drugged, and the mastermind is still out there, free as a bird. Is he really just going to let this slide?”

Natasha let out a cold laugh. “In my dad’s eyes, he only has one daughter, and that’s Joelle. As for me, I’m just an afterthought from his affair that gave him Collin.”

Dorothy looked confused. “Afterthought? What’s that supposed to mean?”

Natasha raised an eyebrow. “Just someone who’s completely dispensable.”

It stung, but it was the truth.

All these years, Natasha’s status in the Whittier family was nothing more than being Collin’s accessory.

No one ever really acknowledged her, and no one cared about her feelings.

That was why she was so desperate to leave the Whittier family.

After lunch, Natasha and Dorothy parted ways in the stairwell.

Natasha took the elevator up to the CEO’s floor.

It was lunch break, and the secretarial area was mostly empty. Only one secretary was on duty, sitting there scrolling through her phone while the rest were out grabbing a bite.

Natasha walked straight toward her office.

Just as she was about to reach her office, she accidentally bumped into a figure coming out of the CEO’s office.

“Mr. Mallin?” Natasha exclaimed, startled.

Marsh Mallin was the manager of the business department, and he was hardly ever seen on the CEO’s floor.

Natasha was genuinely surprised to run into him here today.

When Marsh saw her, he looked a bit flustered at first, but then quickly put on his usual gentle smile. “Hi, Ms. Whittier.”

“Sorry, did I bump into you? Why were you coming out of the CEO’s office?” Natasha asked, her curiosity obvious.

Seeing the documents scattered on the floor, Natasha quickly knelt down to help him pick them up, trying to be helpful.

But when she glanced at the top of the file, she was surprised to see it was the BC Project.

‘Wait, is this the plan Mr. Rundell is preparing to lead our company into the Thalruarian market?’ Natasha wondered.

From what she knew, only Jared’s inner circle of assistants and secretaries were allowed to see this plan right now.

‘Wait, how did Marsh get this?’ Natasha thought, her suspicion kicking in.

Just as she was wondering about it, Marsh quickly snatched the file from her hands.

“Thanks, Ms. Whittier. I was here to report to Mr. Rundell, but he wasn’t around. I’ve got something else to do, so I’ll head out now,” Marsh said hurriedly.

He rushed off right after finishing his sentence.

Watching his stocky frame vanish around the corner, Natasha furrowed her brow, feeling uneasy.

Something about this just didn’t sit well with her.

Just as the workday was winding down, Derek knocked on Natasha’s office door and walked in.

“Ms. Whittier, can you drop these documents and this dinner off for Mr. Rundell?” Derek said.

He set the documents and a takeout dinner from a five-star hotel on Natasha’s desk.

Natasha blinked, a bit speechless.

She thought, ‘Seriously, what’s going on?

‘is Derek treating me like his personal delivery girl now?”

“I’m about to clock out, and isn’t this kind of outside my job description?” Natasha said, testing the waters.

She was just testing the waters, hoping Derek would get the hint.

It wasn’t that she minded working overtime, but Derek was really making things difficult for her this time.

Jated was still at home, recovering from his injury.

If she didn’t deliver the documents and dinner to his place, she couldn’t complete the task at all.

But she’d just gotten out of his house, and she’d already said no to Jared. Facing him again was the last thing she wanted right now.

Derek said, “But Mr. Rundell specifically asked for you to deliver it to his house. And honestly, you’re the only one who’s ever set foot in his place.”

Natasha was momentarily stunned.

Natasha thought, ‘Wait, I’m the only one who’s ever been to Mr. Rundell’s house?

‘Is it really that hard to get into Jared’s place?’

“He really asked for me specifically?” she asked, conflicted.

Derek nodded quickly. “Yeah, and Mr. Rundell’s injury still hasn’t healed. He needs you to keep an extra eye on him. You’re his personal assistant, so stuff like this is totally in your job description.”

Before Natasha could even protest, Derek had already sent her the official breakdown of her assistant responsibilities.

Natasha looked down at the document.

It spelled everything out. Her job wasn’t just the usual assistant stuff. She was supposed to manage his meals, look after his daily life, and even go to his house to tidy up and do chores.

As Natasha scrolled through the list, her eyes went wide in disbelief.

She thought, ‘Seriously, how is this any different from being a maid or a nanny?

‘Damn it. Sure, I’ve climbed the ranks, and everyone at the office is jealous, but now I’m stuck with all this crazy work that no normal person could handle.

‘Money’s hard to earn these days, and dealing with all this crap is even harder!”

But she’d just fallen out with the Whittier family, and now she was about to divorce Percy. Natasha needed to save up enough money to move out, so quitting her job just wasn’t an option right now.

She just had to suck it up and deal with it.

When Natasha returned to Jared’s villa, the place was brightly lit.

The villa was glowing with lights in every room.

The front door swung open automatically as she approached.

Natasha stepped inside, holding the documents in one hand and the takeout dinner in the other.

The grand hall, with its soaring high ceilings, felt open and airy, and floor-to-ceiling windows curved around three sides.

Outside those windows, a huge stretch of lush green lawn rolled out endlessly.

There was an enormous swimming pool outside, sparkling and completely filled with water.

Natasha had left in such a rush last time that she never really got to check out the full luxury of this villa.

Now that she finally took it all in, the place was way more extravagant than she could’ve ever imagined.

The only thing missing was any sense of warmth, it just felt so lifeless.

For a place this huge, there wasn’t a single sign of anyone around.

Natasha wasn’t sure if Jared was actually home.

But since he’d asked her to come over, he was probably around somewhere.

She stepped onto the spiral staircase and headed upstairs.

She heard water flowing somewhere nearby.

She followed the sound to an intricately carved door.
