Chapter 72 Hurry Up and Get Married
Chapter 72 Hurry Up and Get Married
Jared took a deep breath, trying to steady the storm of emotions swirling inside him.
He tried to keep his emotions in check, forcing himself to stay composed.
“It’s nothing, Mom. Just get some rest. I’ll come see you another day,” he said.
With that, he turned and strode out of his mother’s hospital room.
He ran right into Sharon, who was coming down the hall.
Sharon immediately noticed something was wrong with Jared.
“What’s wrong? Who got on your nerves?” she asked, immediately concerned.
Jared ran a hand over his forehead, looking troubled.
He headed to the balcony with Sharon, leaning against the railing.
He filled Sharon in on what Luna had just told him.
Sharon’s expression turned grave. “So Harley’s been pretending to be the good guy in front of Mom, all while keeping us in
the dark.”
Jared asked, concern etched in his voice, “Just how bad is Mom’s illness?”
Sharon shook her head and sighed. “It’s getting worse. I had her checked by a specialist not long ago, and the doctors said her brain is starting to deteriorate…”
Jared clenched his fists, a profound hatred flickering in his eyes.
‘If Harley hadn’t done what he did back then… Mom wouldn’t have been so shaken, and she wouldn’t be suffering from this illness now, Jared thought bitterly.
Sharon tried to comfort him, “What’s done is done. Holding onto resentment won’t change anything. Right now, the most important thing is figuring out how to help Mom get better, and…”
She paused, looking Jared straight in the eye, her tone sincere. “You need to make Mom’s wish come true as soon as possible. Don’t let her keep worrying about you.”
Jared stopped short, his expression freezing. “What wish?”
Sharon patted his shoulder. “What else could Mom want? She’s been nagging you to settle down and start a family.
“If you have an heir, no one can question your claim as the Rundell successor, and Harley won’t have any excuse to keep clinging to the Rundell Group instead of giving it back to you.”
Jared’s expression was icy. “I’ll get the Rundell Group back from Harley sooner or later, no need to jump into marriage and kids just for that. I’m not some tool for carrying on the Rundell family name.”
Sharon couldn’t help but nudge him. “Seriously, you’re not exactly a kid anymore. You can’t stay single forever, right?
“If you keep dragging your feet, Mom’s just going to keep worrying, and that’s not helping her get better.”
Jared’s gaze was brooding. “I’ll just let things take their course…”
Sharon stared at him, suspicion in her eyes. “Don’t tell me you’re still hung up on that assistant of yours, the one who’s already got a husband?”
Jared was silent.
Sharon let out a sigh. “Seriously, you’re knowingly playing the third wheel here, nothing good ever comes from that!
“Take it from your sister. Go find yourself a single woman and start a proper relationship.
“With your looks and status, you could have your pick. Why get stuck on someone who’s already spoken for?”
“I’ve got stuff to do, so I’m heading out,” Jared said, cutting her off.
He couldn’t take it anymore. With his lips pressed together in frustration, he turned and strode away.
Sitting in his luxury car, Jared loosened his tie, but the tension still lingered.
His brows were knitted together in a deep frown.
Sharon’s words kept playing in his mind. ‘You know you’re the third wheel, and that’s never going to end well.’
He felt a surge of irritation he couldn’t put into words.

He rolled down the window and loosened his cuffs.
His toned arm hung over the car door, relaxed but full of strength.
He flicked his lighter and lit a cigarette, taking a slow drag.
The haze took the edge off his frustration, settling his nerves just a bit.
He suddenly spoke up, “Turn right!”
The driver immediately steered to the right.
“Turn left!” Jared said.
The driver turned the wheel to the left.
Jared instructed, “Straight ahead.
“Turn into that complex.
“Stop!”
The driver obeyed every command, steering exactly where Jared directed.
As soon as Jared said stop, the driver braked immediately.
When he looked up, he realized this was the same complex he’d brought Natasha to before.
The driver thought, ‘So Boss is here to see Ms. Whittier.
‘Why didn’t he just say so? It’s not like I don’t know the way.’
But after Jared told him.to stop, he fell completely silent, the air in the car turning heavy.
The driver risked a cautious glance at him through the rearview mirror.
Jared was leaning back in the rear seat, his collar undone and messy, gone was his usual icy composure. Instead, his brows were furrowed in discomfort.
Noticing the driver’s gaze, Jared spoke up, his voice cool and firm. “Get off and head home.”
The driver looked worried. “But Mr. Rundell…”
“It’s fine, just go. I need some time alone,” Jared said, making it clear he didn’t want to be disturbed.
The driver didn’t dare say anything else. He quietly got out and left, not wanting to overstep.
After dinner with Lizzie, Natasha headed to the restroom.
When she came out, she was surprised to run into Percy and Joelle.
Joelle was totally wasted, her cheeks flushed and she could barely stand.
Percy was supporting her, looking genuinely worried about her.
“Joelle, why are you drinking so much again?” he asked, his voice gentle but concerned.
He’d come specifically to pick her up.
Joelle had been out to dinner with some socialite friends, and they’d brought up how Nicolas was about to divorce her.
She was feeling absolutely miserable, so she could only drown her sorrows in booze.
“I’ll drink as much as I damn well please. Who do you think you are, telling me what to do?” Joelle shot back.
Right after she snapped at him, she realized something was off with Percy.
He suddenly went rigid, his eyes locking onto something across the room.
Joelle, annoyed, looked where he was staring, and spotted Natasha standing there.
“Why the hell are you here, you slut?” Joelle snapped, her face instantly turning icy.
She went off on Natasha, not holding back for a second.
“I should’ve never left home today if I knew I would run right into a jerk and his tramp,” Natasha spat.
Natasha gave a little smirk, a mocking twist to her lips as she reflected on the situation.
Joelle’s face contorted with fury. “You!”
Natasha wasn’t about to stick around for more drama. She just turned on her heel and walked away.
Joelle couldn’t believe Natasha had the nerve to treat her like that.

Even Natasha’s husband, Percy, only had eyes for Joelle.
Joelle fumed, ‘Who does Natasha think she is, acting all high and mighty with me?
