King of thieves never expected that Bai Meiyue would actually check every single pod. He blinked his eyes and looked at the woman as if he was seeing someone like her for the first time.
"Sorry," after she was done checking the last pod, Bai Meiyue blinked her eyes innocently and turned to look at the King of Thieves. "It’s just that I don’t trust people easily."
She was not lying; after what happened to her son, Bai Meiyue could never trust anyone ever again. Even if she wanted to, it would take a lot of effort on her part.
The King of Thieves shook his head before saying, "Very well, I will not question or blame you. But you better hope that the quality of the jade will satisfy me, Miss."
"Of course," Bai Meiyue was not a jade expert but the fact that these pieces of jade jewellery that she had picked up were from the reserved section, Bai Meiyue knew that the quality of these pieces of jade jewellery must be really good.
However, she didn’t take out the biggest piece of jade; instead, she looked around and finally found a second-grade cloud jade. It was snowy white and really soft and cool to touch.
Bai Meiyue was satisfied with this piece of jade and took it out from the space pocket before placing it on the table. Since the Barter System didn’t reject it nor the alarm blared, Bai Meiyue heaved a sigh of relief. It seemed like she made the correct bet.
The King of Thieves picked up the jade and carefully examined it; he even took out a special piece of equipment, which he used to test the quality of the jade. The more he looked at it, the shinier his eyes became and he nodded.
"This will become a wonderful antique jade in my era." After a few more tests, the King of Thieves nodded and remarked. "I am glad that I listened to Sturdy Mechanic. He was not lying when he said that you do have really good stock."
He hesitated and then asked, "Do you have more of this jade?"
"Not at the moment," Bai Meiyue lied through her teeth. "But I can acquire more if you want."
The man was obviously disappointed but he still looked at Bai Meiyue and then said to her, "I will add you to my friend list. If I arrange for a barter exchange, you should accept it. It’s really rare for me to not have something unless it belongs to some other dimension."
Bai Meiyue nodded and agreed with him.
Once the barter exchange was done, Bai Meiyue returned to the boat only to find that it was missing.
Her eyes turned cold and she asked, "Where is the boat?"
"Yueyue!" Bai Zhan heaved a sigh of relief when he saw his sister return safely. He then pointed to the middle of the street and said to Bai Meiyue, "That girl, Lu Yin, was that her name? She took the boat with her after snatching the paddle from An’er. She said that she was going to save someone."
"Little sister, don’t worry. Hand over your bag and play with your big brother. As long as you serve me well, I will treat you well," the man said to Lu Yin, who shivered and turned to look at the small speck that was Lu Yu. "Don’t even think of calling anyone for help or else I will kill you and this man right here and now."
Lu Yin shivered. She didn’t care about Bai Jixuan but she didn’t want to die. Anyway, Bai Jixuan was so weak; what was the point of him living in such harsh times?
"Now, come here. Let Big Brother make you feel better—AHHH!"
The fat man was still speaking when someone climbed up on the boat and shoved a sharp dagger in the back of his neck.
Bai Meiyue’s actions were so swift and ruthless that the man didn’t even get the chance to scream and look at the culprit who killed him. His eyes rolled back in his sockets and he fell on the boat.
Blood spurted out of the back of his neck and doused Bai Meiyue. The freshly cut flesh showed a clear texture that was mixed with white and yellow greasy fat.
"AHH! You killed someone! You killed someone!" Lu Yin screamed while clutching her cheeks; it was as if she was scared that no one would hear her.
"SHUT UP!" Bai Meiyue snapped as she raised her foot and pressed it against the throat of the woman who was screaming. "One more word and I will dump you in the water. Whether you can survive or not will be up to you. Do you want to try?"
