Chapter 6
The air in the living room went dead
Not in her room?
Bolden’s face turmed dark.
They pulled up the security footage. Emma had left hours ago.
His chest tightened.
She agreed to this. And she’s still playing games.
A groomsmen suddenly held up his phone. “Dude-check the group chat! Someone posted a clip from a wedding venue in the Emma?”
Holden grabbed the phone.
The video showed their five-star hotel A woman in an ivory dress being escorted toward the bridal suite.
He recognized her instantly.
Relief washed over him.
“See?” Phoebe laughed. “She’s just making a grand entrance. She’s there. Relax”
Mom scrambled to smooth things over. That girl didn’t even tell us. We were all worried for nothing.”
“Let’s get to the hotel before we miss the ceremony.”
Holden exhaled. Shoved down his frustration.
The convoy arrived.
Holden greeted guests and press briefly.
Everyone was seated. The officiant was ready.
He headed toward the bridal suite.
Stopped in front of the flower-covered door. Knocked softly. “Emma? It’s time. You ready?”
Silence.
His jaw tightened. He turned the handle.
Unlocked.
The suite was lit up-empty.
The custom gown, the jewelry he’d arranged-all still there.
But no bride.

Chapter 6
What made his blood run cold?
Phoebe. Standing in the middle of the room.
Wearing the million-dollar custom wedding dress. Admiring herself in the mirror.
She jumped when she saw him.
“Holden! You can’t just-”
“What are you doing here?” His voice was ice. “Where’s Emma?”
Phoebe’s eyes welled up. “Why are you yelling at me?”
“The ceremony’s about to start and she wasn’t out yet, so I came to check if she needed help-but she wasn’t here and the dress was just hanging
there…”
She tugged at the gown’s hem.
“I just… it’s so beautiful. I couldn’t help trying it on.”
“Are you insane?” A vein pulsed at his temple. “Take it off. Now.”
“What if Emma sees you?”
Phoebe pouted and started fumbling with the back ties.
A knock.
The hotel manager stepped in, apologetic.
“Mr. Harrington, the ceremony was scheduled to begin. The officiant is asking-can the bride make her entrance?”
Before Holden could answer, music swelled from somewhere nearby.
Wedding march. Applause. Cheers.
Close. Really close.
The manager’s smile turned strained. “Also… Mr. Harrington, the ballroom next door just added a last-minute wedding. Very tight schedule.”
“If we’re… delayed on our end, could we possibly clear the corridor?”
“So we don’t interfere with the York Caldwell union.”
“York-Caldwell union?”
