April Fools “Surprise” Husband Divorcing Me For His “Pure” Girl novel Chapter 16

Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Holden repeated slowly. “Which Caldwell family?”

The manager kept his professional smile. “I’m not entirely sure…”

Holden paused.

An uneasy feeling twisted in his gut, but he didn’t have time to worry about someone else’s wedding.

He pulled out his phone and called the groomsmen. “Bride’s not in the suite. Split up and find her.”

He hung up and turned back to the manager. “Our wedding was booked six months ago. We’re not moving.”

The manager looked uncomfortable. “Mr. Harrington, the timing really does-”

“There’s no conflict.” Holden cut him off. “If my wife finds out her red carpet got bumped for someone else’s-”

His eyes locked on the manager’s face. Voice dropped.

“She won’t be happy.”

His phone buzzed. A groomsman sent a photo.

The second he opened it, his breath caught.

A stunning figure in a wedding gown, turned slightly away, phone to her ear.

Different dress. Simpler. Elegant neckline. Familiar curve of her shoulders…

She looks beautiful.

A wave of emotion hit him hard.

All the frustration, the doubt, the anger from the past few days-it all melted away.

He was finally marrying her.

The realization filled his chest with something he couldn’t name. Relief. Certainty.

Maybe there’d been some bumps. But now? Everything was falling into place.

He’d have a home. Emma. Maybe kids soon….

He zoomed in on the photo, wanting to see her more clearly.

Phoebe appeared at his elbow, peeking at the screen.

Her voice turned pouty. “Holden… don’t you think I look better in this one?”

His attention flickered away from the photo. Glanced at her.

The sudden rush of relief made him more tolerant of her ridiculous timing.

He shrugged. “Guess she didn’t like the one I picked. Whatever.”

He pocketed his phone, ready to go get Emma himself.

“If you like that dress so much, keep it. She’s not using it anyway. Wear it when you get married.”

He turned to leave.

“Holden-”

Phoebe grabbed his arm.

He stopped. Frowned.

She looked up at him.

That cocky smirk she always wore? Gone.

Her voice cracked. “When you walked in… and saw me in the dress… what did you feel?”

Holden stared at her red-rimmed eyes. At the expensive gown she was wearing. The softness that had just crossed his face-gone.

What did he feel?

He hadn’t thought about it.

Phoebe in a wedding dress… she looked good. No denying that.

Even striking.

But they were too close. So close he’d almost forgotten she was a woman.

What he felt for Phoebe was more like… possessiveness. The kind a guy feels toward his ride-or-die.

He liked having her orbit around him. Liked feeling needed. Admired.

But what he really liked? Keeping both women in perfect balance,

Emma was his endgame. His home.

Phoebe was his thrill. His escape.

He’d never thought he’d have to choose.

Or maybe-deep down-he figured with his money and status, he’d never have to,

Phoebe’s tears and her question ripped that illusion wide open.

For a split second, he wavered.

But logic kicked back in. And the wedding waiting for him.

Not now.

His throat tightened. He looked away from her burning gaze. “Phoebe, stop. This isn’t the time.”

“Just take off the dress.”

Then he bolted toward Emma.

I’d just finished a call on the terrace outside the ballroom. Started heading back inside.

Turned around-and there was Holden, rushing toward me.

“Emma-” He was breathless. “There you are.”
