April Fools “Surprise” Husband Divorcing Me For His “Pure” Girl novel Chapter 20

Chapter 11

Chapter 11

He was mid-sentence when a soft knock came at the lounge door.

The butler entered and addressed Ashton respectfully. “Sir, Mr. Harrington is still outside. Insists on seeing Mrs. York.”

Ashton raised an eyebrow. Looked at me. “Want to see him?”

I glanced at my reflection in the glass-white gown, veil gone. Shook my head.

“Nothing left to say.”

Ashton nodded. Turned to the butler. “Tell Mr. Harrington my wife needs rest. No visitors.”

“Ask them to leave.”

He paused. Tone unchanged. “If they refuse… you know what to do.”

“Yes, sir.”

The butler left.

I knew with the Yorks’ power-and Ashton’s reach-getting Holden to leave was nothing. Keeping him away for good? Even easier.

That’s why I chose this. Chose him.

I needed shelter strong enough to hold.

And a blade sharp enough to cut every last thread tying me to the past.

Changed out of the gown. Into something comfortable. Slid into the car Ashton arranged.

We pulled away from the hotel.

City lights streaked past the window. I leaned back. Closed my eyes.

No relief. No sadness.

Just… quiet. And the faintest flicker of something like hope.

I knew Holden wouldn’t let go easily.

But this time? I wasn’t standing still.

I was married.

To someone else,

The car stopped in front of a secluded villa under the York name.

As I stepped out, Ashton gestured. “Study. Let’s talk.”

The study was spacious. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a quiet garden.

Chapter 11

Ashton pulled two files from a drawer. Slid them into the light.

No expression. “Prenup addendum. And-” He paused. Met my eyes. “This morning, Harrington Corp officially pulled all funding.”

I picked up the documents,

Black and white. Cold and clear.

Effective immediately, all partnerships and capital investments with Caldwell Enterprises are terminated.

Interesting.

My family had been banking on Holden’s money to survive. The Yorks made sure he yanked it all.

They were screwed.

As for the $300 million bride price?

Already wired. Into an account under my name.

Full control.

“Fast work.” I set the file down. Calm.

Reached into my bag. Pulled out a thin document of my own. Slid it across the desk.

“The century-old winery my grandfather left me. Swiss Alps. Vineyard included. Full ownership.”

“You’ve tried buying it through intermediaries a few times. I never sold.”

“Last appraisal? $320 million. I’ll sell it to you for $300 million. Call it payback for the assist.”

“As for the marriage certificate-let’s skip it. No point making this a second marriage for either of us.”

“This wedding was just to shut my family up. Keep Holden off my back. If you ever meet someone you actually like and need me to explain-I’ve got your back.”

Ashton smiled faintly. Pulled a thicker folder from the side of the desk. Pushed it toward me.

“Hold on. Look at this first.”
