My chest seizes up.

I grab Hawk’s sleeve, desperate.

“Listen to me-I don’t even know that guy! I’ve never-”

“Don’t care.”

He sticks his pinky in his ear, clearly annoyed.

“You don’t wanna sign? Fine. We’ll drag your ass through court. Takes longer, yeah, but same ending.”

He leans in close. Smirks.

“Only question is-can a knocked-up nobody really afford to go to war with me?”

The cramping in my stomach gets worse.

My heart feels like it’s being crushed.

Two seconds of dead air.

Then I force it out, voice ragged:

“No. I can’t.”

He rips the signed papers from my hands.

Tosses a bank card onto the bed like he’s throwing scraps to a dog.

“Ten years of playing wifey. Here’s five mil. Should keep you fed for a while.”

God, it’s almost funny.

Ten years of my life. Built his billion-dollar empire with him.

And apparently I’m worth five million bucks.

He grabs Gwen’s hand.

They head for the door.

Tears flood my vision. I call after him, barely a whisper.

“Hawk. You’re gonna regret this.”

His footsteps stop.

He doesn’t look back.

After they leave, I sit there alone.

Hospital bed. White walls. Silence.

Trying to make a choice.

Keep this baby? Or end it?

I book the abortion for tomorrow morning.

I know it’s a life growing inside me.

But I can’t raise Hawk’s ghost for the next eighteen years.

I’m done.

He gutted me.

I stare down at the photos scattered on my lap.

Two weeks ago, some stranger yanked my arm on the sidewalk. Bear-hugged me out of nowhere.

I write up the lawsuit. Print every piece of evidence.

Walk straight into the courthouse.

They file it on the spot.

Next day. Right after the procedure, my phone explodes.

I finally pick up.

Hawk snatches it back. Voice like a blade.

“She caught you cheating and you’re suing her for it? Seriously? Get your ass to the café by campus. Right now We’re gonna fix this

Dead silence.

Then he laughs-sharp, cruel.

“What, lover boy already dumped you?”

I don’t bite.

Just let the corner of my mouth curl up.

“Maybe actually read the lawsuit before you start running your mouth.”

“Tell Gwen I’ll see her in court. Three days.”
