April Fools “Surprise” Husband Divorcing Me For His “Pure” Girl novel Chapter 68

Chapter 8

Marcus’s face drains of all color. Sweat beads on his forehead.

“Miss Sterling, what’ll it take?”

1 laugh. It’s not friendly.

“What’ll it take? You think throwing cash at this makes it go away?”

Tve dealt with plenty of assholes. But your son? He’s something else. Thinks he’s untouchable.”

“If I were some random nobody today, you wouldn’t even be here. One call and it’s handled, right?”

Marcus is shaking. Won’t look me in the eye.

“Miss Sterling, we screwed up. Let me fix this.”

“Name it. Anything. Won’t argue.”

Ethan’s never seen his dad like this. Jumps in fast.

“Dad! We’re the Blackwoods! Why are you groveling?!”

I stare at him. There’s amusement in my voice.

“So you still think your family runs this whole city?”

I don’t get out much, but I know powerful people.

Money? Influence? The Blackwoods don’t even register.

“Listen, Sterling. I’m not a pushover like my old man.”

You got moves? Let’s see them.”

I glance at my watch and smile slightly.

“Being confident’s fine, Ethan. Being delusional’s your real issue.”

“This family you’re so proud of? Means nothing to me.”

Marcus goes pale instantly.

He starts to speak. I raise my hand.

“Mr. Blackwood, you heard what your son just said.”

“I don’t push back? People think I’m weak.”

Ethan’s phone rings right then.

“You still don’t get why I set up this engagement?! Your grandfather and Mr. Sterling go way back-that’s the ONLY reason you got this shot! You think you actually deserve the Sterling family?!”

“I’ve ignored your bullshit for years! But today you went after Miss Sterling!”

Marcus is practically yelling now, stomping around.

Every word’s true. Not exaggerating at all.

Plus Fiona wrecked my grandmother’s handbag.

After Marcus tears into him, Ethan finally gets it.

“Dad… you’re saying… her family’s so powerful even we can’t touch them?”

Everyone’s staring at me now with pure fear in their eyes.

Fiona especially is hiding in the crowd, trembling, refusing to look my way.

“Be glad you didn’t go further today, Ethan.”

“Otherwise bankruptcy would’ve been the least of your problems.”
