Chapter 7
Marcus Blackwood looks like he’s seen a ghost.
“Miss Sterling. Am I late?”
I give him a cold smile.
“Perfect timing. Mr. Blackwood. One more minute and your little assistant would’ve put her hands on me.”
Marcus doesn’t hesitate.
CRACK.
Ethan’s head snaps sideways. Five red marks bloom on his cheek.
You moron! Do you have any idea what you just did?! Apologize to Miss Sterling right now!”
Ethan’s completely lost. Stares at his dad like he’s looking at a stranger.
Dad-what the hell?! This is the girl you picked for me! She’s nobody! Why are you hitting me over her?!”
She disrespected our whole company! Have you lost your damn mind?!”
I lean back in my seat. The anger’s fading a little.
But this isn’t enough. Not even close. Blackwood Corp still owes me.
Marcus’s face goes dark. He swings again.
CRACK
You’re asking me why?!”
“Miss Sterling does whatever she wants! You don’t get an opinion!”
He turns to me with this forced smile, apologetic as hell, then spins back to the bodyguards.
“Anyone who tried touching Miss Sterling gets fired. All of you. Out.”
111 give Marcus credit-he’s way sharper than his kid.
His voice cuts through the room like a knife. But Ethan’s brain is scrambled eggs.
He can’t figure out why his father’s losing it over some random girl.
Sucks for him. Only a few people know the real story.
Marcus happens to be one of them.
Fiona pushes forward, desperate.
Mr. Blackwood, she’s shitting all over this company! Ethan was protecting Blackwood’s reputation! Why are you so pissed?!”
“Even if she’s connected, you’re a legend here! Doesn’t Blackwood’s reputation matter?!”
Some employees are nodding, still not buying my story.
Marcus doesnt even look at her.

Chapter 7
You caused this whole disaster. Get lost. Blackwood doesn’t keep garbage around.”
To everyone watching, it makes zero sense. Why would someone as powerful as Marcus grovel like this?
But I know exactly why. He’s trying to save Blackwood Corp.
I find myself a good spot and sit down. Let Marcus handle it.
He doesn’t let me down.
Right there in front of everyone, he points at his own son and tears into him.
“Ethan Blackwood. I’m your father and I’m telling you-apologize to Miss Sterling. Now.”
“If you still don’t believe me, fine. Then you’re not my son anymore.”
He straightens up and walks over to me, then bows deep with his face dead serious.
That’s the breaking point.
Ethan’s caught between Blackwood Corp’s reputation and his own father. He goes quiet.
The whole room goes silent.
I stand up slowly.
“Skip the apology.”
“Whatever the Blackwood family and I had going? It’s over.”
