Aurora Walton and Lucas Carter novel Chapter 1828

The space between them drew closer bit by bit.

Aurora thought about what she planned to do next, and a thread of uncertainty pushed her to ask Lucas, “Do you think what I’m about to do will actually work?”

“You mean exposing Tessa?”

“Yes. I’ve been hesitating this whole time.” Aurora let out a quiet sigh. “I keep wondering how Mom will see me if I really go through with it.”

“But they never told you the truth either, did they? In the end, they were the ones who hid everything from you first.”

Lucas spoke plainly. “If you take someone else’s wrongdoing and put the blame on yourself, then honestly, that’s just foolish.”

“What do you mean by that?”

Aurora glanced at him, puzzled.

Sometimes she felt Lucas understood things more clearly than she did.

She might be more decisive than him when it came to business, but she didn’t always see things as openly as he did.

There were moments when she sensed something was wrong with her own thinking, yet she couldn’t pinpoint exactly where the problem lay.

Lucas, however, always seemed to consider things more thoroughly.

“I’m saying the issue is clearly theirs, so why carry it as though it were yours?”

His smile stayed warm and gentle.

“If that’s really what you’re doing, don’t you think it makes you a little silly? The fault is obviously theirs.”

“You’re right.”

Before Aurora could say anything more, Lucas continued, “Besides, this is like using someone else’s mistakes to punish yourself.”

“But I keep worrying… if I expose Tessa at the family meeting, won’t Mom feel awful about it?”
