Hearing that, Aurora suddenly understood.
“Lukey, you’re right. This really was my issue.”
Lucas rubbed her head and gently guided her back against his chest.
“You’re not the one with the problem. The problem lies with those who never cared about how you felt.”
A cold glint slipped through his eyes.
“If you don’t want to handle them yourself, I can take care of every one of them for you.”
“No, that’s not necessary.”
Aurora immediately sat up, and the blanket slid down with her movement.
She didn’t notice that the sudden expanse before him was fully exposed to Lucas’ view.
His gaze darkened.
He stared at her, unblinking.
Meanwhile, Aurora kept talking to herself, oblivious. “I want to deal with these people on my own.
“You’re right, they never cared about my feelings, so why should I care about what they think?”
Her eyes sharpened. “If I still let that stop me, wouldn’t that make me incredibly foolish?”
“Aurora, I’ve said it so many times—you’re kind by nature. Don’t let this upset you.”
Lucas spoke without shifting his gaze, his eyes fixed on Aurora—more specifically, on the bare curve of her body.
At first she didn’t notice and continued explaining her thoughts.
But when Lucas didn’t respond, she finally sensed something was off and waved a hand in front of him.
“Lukey, what are you thinking about? I’m talking to you.”
As she raised her arm, she finally noticed her bare skin.
