No one could discern what he intended to retrieve, but the intention was unmistakably malicious.

The private room wasn’t crowded. Luke stood isolated on one side, while three men and one woman occupied the other.

If violence erupted, Luke would be severely outnumbered.

Scarlett fought to maintain her composure. She shot Luke a sharp glance and commanded through gritted teeth, “Luke, come over here now.”

Her presence only exacerbated Luke’s foul temper. “You think I’ll obey just because you say so? Who do you imagine you are?”

Scarlett’s gaze turned arctic. “Your brother is here as well.”

She was strategically invoking Vincent’s authority to control the situation.

With numerous witnesses present, any physical altercation would inevitably disadvantage their side.

The men confronting Luke regarded Scarlett with confusion. When Luke defiantly ignored her, their expressions shifted to open contempt and provocation.

Scarlett disregarded their hostile demeanor, instead noticing the young woman weeping quietly in the

corner.

From the fragmented conversation she’d overheard, Scarlett deduced Luke had likely instigated the conflict. Hoping to prevent further escalation, she stepped forward, seized an unopened beer bottle, and announced, “Gentlemen, I’m Scarlett, Luke’s sister. He’s young and impulsive, and I apologize if he’s offended this young lady. Please accept this drink as my gesture of apology.”

She raised the bottle, preparing to consume its contents, but Luke snorted derisively, “Who granted you permission to call yourself my sister? Sabrina is the only one I acknowledge as family.”

Scarlett’s hand hesitated momentarily. A bitter smile touched her lips before she tilted her head back and drained the entire bottle without pause.

Luke watched with unmoved disdain. “Who are you performing for? Nobody’s impressed.”

Scarlett refused to internalize his cruel words. Turning to the others, she declared, “I’ll settle tonight’s entire bill. I’m taking my difficult brother home now.”

The group had witnessed her drinking the entire beer as an apology, and her straightforward manner earned their grudging respect.

Her diplomatic words effectively defused the mounting tension.

Just as pleasantries were about to be exchanged, Luke erupted in fresh anger. “Scarlett, who authorized your interference? Don’t flatter yourself thinking you matter!”

Scarlett met his glare calmly. “Your brother is waiting outside for you.”

Luke snapped. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”

Scarlett sighed and addressed the others. “Please continue your evening. My apologies for the disruption.”

They exchanged brief civilities before departing.

Now alone in the room with Luke, Scarlett watched as he furiously swept all bottles and cans from the table with a deafening crash that made her flinch.

Simultaneously, he screamed at her, “Scarlett, know your place! What gives you the right to order me around? You’re just a pawn the Stewart family keeps around-less valuable than a housemaid. If anyone should be disciplining me, it’s Sabrina. Now get out!”

Scarlett listened, then actually laughed-a cold, mirthless sound. She strode directly up to Luke and, without warning, delivered a sharp slap across his face.

“Luke, listen carefully. All these years I’ve dedicated to the Stewart family-I might as well have thrown my devotion to a stray dog. Gratitude isn’t required, but I won’t tolerate your venom. If I weren’t concerned you might get yourself killed tonight, I wouldn’t waste a single glance on you.”

With that, Scarlett turned to leave. But Luke, unable to accept being struck, leaped up and seized her wrist. “You dare hit me? You’re asking for retaliation!”

He raised his hand to strike back. Scarlett squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for impact.

But the expected blow never landed. Instead, she felt only a rush of air brush her cheek.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Vincent firmly gripping Luke’s raised arm.

The moment Luke saw Vincent, he burst out, “Vincent, you need to teach this woman a lesson! She actually hit me! Even Mom and Dad never raised a hand to me! Vincent, you have to punish her!”

Blood truly runs thicker than water. Vincent would undoubtedly side with Luke and likely strike her too.

But she had no intention of remaining passive. As she began backing away, she heard Vincent tell Luke, “She is my wife. She possesses every right to discipline you when necessary. Regardless of her reasons for striking you, you will accept it without complaint.”

Luke stood dumbfounded. “Vincent, I’m your actual blood relative! How can you take her side?”

Not only Luke-Scarlett herself was equally astonished.

Then realization dawned-Vincent wasn’t defending her personally, but rather the situation demanded it since they were staying at the Stewart Manor tonight.

If Scarlett appeared with visible injuries and Xavier noticed, significant trouble would ensue for everyone.

Considering this, his intervention made perfect pragmatic sense,

Vincent ignored Luke’s outrage and commanded in a low voice, “We’re returning home now.”

Luke didn’t dare argue further with Vincent and could only swallow his resentment.

The three departed the bar together. Scarlett occupied the front passenger seat, Luke sat sullenly in the

back, and Vincent took the wheel.

No one spoke. The silence in the vehicle grew thick and heavy with unspoken tensions.
